Eddie Murphy talks to BBC Radio 1's film critic Ali Plumb about Coming 2 America, available now on Amazon Prime Video. He tells us how the original Coming To America from 1988 became a cult classic that people still love today. Plus, he reveals the hard work behind the makeup needed to play so many different characters in movies like this and The Nutty Professor, and how it compares to his Oscar nominated performance in Dreamgirls. And we hear how the Kingdom of Zamunda was created in Rick Ross's back yard, and what fans shout at Eddie in the street.

Crazy how Eddie Murphy is now older than James Earl Jones was in the first movie. He looks great for someone who’s almost 60 and it’s also great to see that James Earl Jones is still alive and seems healthy. Fuck the Oscars too.

[Also: I remember when Coming to America first came out, it was big deal to a lot of critics over the fact that Eddie's (main) character hardly cursed. I think that's the main reason why it played on TV more than any of his other films.]

Eddie Murphy is just himself, saw that in the Seinfeld segment and every other interview. He says honestly what he is watching as a guilty pleasure without feeling self conscious because he is a comic genius and doesn’t need to impress anyone. He is singular and is a living icon. Great interview.

It makes sense that he's an actual "humble man", being that he's not full of himself like most at his level of accomplishements. FACT: I actually wanted to have 10 kids. Got 2 and grateful...cuz, indeed...that's a lotta kids man. However, just the idea of creating so many human beings and personalities to boot...would have been an amazing experience.

Wow Eddie spawned 10 children?? Curious if they’re all grounded and good humans. Seems like after all his massive success decades later he’s a good dude. Brought so many laughs 100 to us all for many years indeed. #auntbunny
