    A point well taken as to snow on the condenser fan blades. I have had that happen here in Oklahoma one winter. The condenser fan made the most awful noises as it was trying to rid itself of a snowfall from the evening before. A heavy and quite wet snowfall and then a quick freeze turned the snow to ice. My cure for that was to drag out my electric heat gun with which I melted all of the ice on the condenser fan. No damage to any component.

    From VA every year I see a few heat pumps with the outdoor fans frozen solid in place. Snow melts off the roof and gutters are not working for one reason or another, the melt is just above freezing such that when it comes in contact with the fan shroud and air discharging that's 20+ below ambient it will flash freeze to the shroud and build up unit it holds the fan in place and the fan becomes frozen in place coveted in ice.

    These Bosch units are using what's commonly known as minisplit tech but on a ducted system. I predict all makers will eventually go this way. They run so much more efficient. I have a minisplit in one of my garages and it's amazing.
    Some A/C guys have gone ductless or mostly ductless. You are trading long lineset runs for ducts. Very curious to see the long term on all those long linesets. Bosch really found a hybrid niche. Best of both worlds.

    Technically the coils switch because the reversing valve reverses the flow of refrigerant. Out here on the west coast 95% of the units i work on are heatpumps and we just call it the indoor coil and out door coil because their responsibilities switch with the flow of refrigerant

    • @zaccody6980
      @zaccody6980 Před 2 lety +3

      @@PipeDoctor well you were 100% right when u said the odu would be the evaporater in heat. And O/B is the reversing valve(as u know) but the reason theres 2 designations is because the reversing valve only gets energized in 1 mode. For example trane energizes the RV in cooling only so cool on a trane would be B because in heat the RV is just Off pretty much

      @aaronga90 Před 2 lety +1

      @@zaccody6980 "O" energizes the RV in cooling mode, "B energizes the RV in heating mode. The RV needs to be energized in cooling for TRANE units so you have to use "O". as far as I know and as far as I've seen, only RUUD/RHEEM use "B" 🙂

They never get the right equipment, everything is always too big and never fits, a lead installer makes 21 hours an hour, when I left I was making 25 knowing how to do heating and cooling installs name of the game at homeserve is quantity not quality.
