At 1:30, the bell sounded just like Frisco 1522’s bell 😍
Lots of speculation here as to what this whistle was, but nobody has nailed it yet.
2716 carried an Illllinois Central whistle during her brief excursion career on the Southern. The whistle was owned by Southern steam boss Bill Purdie.
I don't know where it iis today, though it likely went to his son when he passed away.
A amazing whistle. I hope Chesapeake & Ohio 2716 will be back in operation again very soon.
And I hope they give her the old Ps-4 whistle.
I never saw her but I did see one of her sisters 2756 in Virginia and she's the only C&O steam locomotive i have ever saw
IIRC, 611 ended up being her replacement in the Norfolk Southern fleet (though the J's restoration began before 2716 was sidelined due to issues).
This is correct. 2716's firebox issues could have been repaired, but it was deemed unnecessary to put money into both a modern 4-8-4 and a leased 2-8-4. Personally, I think 2716 was the best locomotive they ran under the Southern Railway banner.
One's mileage may vary...
Love the locomotive and whistle!
Hancock longbell 3 chime /hancock 3 chime
Well funny enough she was sold to CSX

WHAAAAAAATTTTT
Technically I think the Southern 3 Chime is a home-built whistle based off the Hancock Long Bell.
@@trainknutthe Southern 3 chime long bell was actually based on the Illinois Central 3 chime steamboat whistle, which in turn was based on an early version of the flat-top Hancock 3 chime’s design.
Does anyone know what happened to her PS-4 Whistle?
That was Bill Purdie's personal Illinois Central whistle. It likely stayed in the family when he passed away, but I cannot verify that.
It sounds like tsrr 30 np 3 chime
MSTS whistle
1522 whistle
No it dosen't
Similar, 1522 uses a Hancock 3 Chime Long Bell, while this is a Southern 3 Chime.
The Southern 3's were based off the Hancocks, hence the similar sound.
