  • Features of a postmodern education system might include schools having more autonomy from central government, curriculums becoming more diverse, parents and students having more choice, learning moving online, and and an overall scepticism towards metanarratives.
In this presentation I examine recent trends in the UK education system and conclude that the education system remains very modernist with its focus on a relatively narrow national curriculum, OFSTED monitoring and standardised exams.
I think the British Education system is best characterised as late modern rather than postmodern as it has responded to the postmodernisation of society in various ways such as offering a greater range of vocational options, becoming more globally oriented and making some attempt to teach students about how to negotiate the risks of living in a late modern age.
