It reminds me of Collegium Musicum from college. I’m so glad to see people playing Renaissance music.
Ausgezeichnet!!! ❤

Very nice. The instruments have wonderful tones.
Eine wahre Freude! Danke schön!
thank you for this beautiful performance
WOW. I don't think I've ever heard something quite like this. It's a beautiful tune and a lovely ensemble! There's so much going on that I've had to listen to it four times in a row. That shift at 1:10 completely took me by surprise. Thank you for sharing this. I'm very intrigued and loved everything about it!
Shifting from duple meter (4/4, 2/4, or 2/2) to triple meter (3/4 or 3/2), and back again, happens all the time in Renaissance and early Baroque music. I agree it's a lovely feature of early music.
@@hemiolaguy Thanks for describing what I was hearing. This isn't a musical era I'm familiar with, nor am I particularly familiar with the instruments, so the whole experience was disorienting in the best kind of way.
Lovely late medieval/early baroque music, please put up more videos. You guys make a great ensemble

So schön leichtfüßig musiziert. Großartig!
Great job recorder players and the drum was so good 😃
Magnifique!
Of course the recorder players are very skilled and trained, but apart from the level of skill of the musicians, the drums is what makes this music so exceptional as a whole. Far too many interpretations of Renaissance and Baroque music tend to bend the rithm, especially vocal church music. However I strongly belief that especially for renaissance music the tempo must be as fixed as possible. This doesn't only apply to a ciaconne.
I agree, though I think one should take into account some flexibility with regard to secular dance music in late medieval-early renaissance music. Usually the musicians would know which steps of the dance take every so slightly longer or shorter, resulting in a rhythmical variations. On the whole, this is not the case in religious musical contexts. Although it must be mentioned that many pieces of secular music were recorded by church scholars, removing their scurvy texts and adding innocent 'kyrie', only to be found and used again counterfactually much later in new compositions for liturgy.

Interesting! I've always wondered whether those tunes were supposed to be played in a more lively, even "catchy" manner - so that one can dance or bob his head to the rhythm. Could you elaborate? What do you mean by some interpretations "bending" the rhythm too much?
@@kathorsees What I mean is that in certain interpretations of renaissance, and baroque music (even more), some interpreters try to make some passages more 'dramatic' by slowing down or speeding up. So I meant more 'tempo' compared to 'rhythm'. As mentioned by someone in the comments this is mostly done in spiritual (vocal music). However, in the renaissance and also in a certain extent still in the baroque (especially by JS Bach), music had to be like creation. Everything must flow. Harmony and peace were considered to be much more important then drama. Musicians saw this also as their task, in the same way how it were in many eastern countries. Keeping the exact tempo throughout the piece that is just indicated by one tempo is one of the means to accomplish harmony, next to the harmony of the tones. Also we must note that pieces from this time in general don't have indicators that say: 'slow down here', and 'speed up here'. but they have a tempo indication at the beginning of the piece.
@@jonathanvalk726 Well said... but I think there are two different use cases here. It stands to reason that if you're playing a dance, the dancers will not thank you for slowing down or speeding up arbitrarily. On the other hand, I don't think a singer, e.g., playing the part of Orpheus lamenting his lost Euridice, would be expected to do it in strict tempo 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4!
I heard an early (19c) recording of a folk ballad once. "Ballad" means "danced". The guy sang in fixed time, fairly fast - exactly the same as a dance band would have, and for the same reason.
Maravilhoso!
This is aweseome!
真好聽
😊 it's strange early music sounds to happy for a period of time when life was not so great and to days music never really seems very happy, yet life today, we think we have everything?
I love this recording.
I would to join you. Lovely!
Fantastic! 💪👍❤
Danke danke
What kind of recorder is that big one? I’ve never seen one like that! Lovely sound! Beautiful combination of instruments to bring out the best of music from that period.
It is a Renaissance style bass recorder. Note the straight in-line pattern of holes. At the bottom, the metal key is flanged on both sides, so the instrument can be played easily by both right-handed and left-handed players. Bass recorders of this size are usually in the key of F.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎶🎵!!!!!!!!
This is quite similar to Uccellini's La Bergamasca. Could it be that it's the same thing with La Follia, that everybody and their mother made variations on? Or just simply "lifted" from each other ;-) the great artists like they were. :)
Bravi!
Атта Тролль такие бы танцы не приветствовал! :)))
Oy
Can You send me the sheets of Your variation of this beautiful song, please! Thank You!
are you going to release sheet music for this?
Where do yall find other high-level recorder players to form consorts with? 😢
Freiburg University of Music, apparently
The one on the drum doesn't look very Jewish to me...
