Would you update to version 2.0.1?
I'm wondering the same? I bought mine like almost a year ago and still on FW 1.5.0 and nervous to update to the latest FW. I'm getting excellent battery life right now. I have mevwr drained it all the way and closest I've gotten is like 7 hours straight. Have you updated?
If yours is not broken, don’t update. Unless you want all the new features like Multi-point connection.
My set was ver 1.5 straight out of the box. After pairing with the Sony app, it prompted me to update to 1.6.1
After the update, the battery drain was mad.
March 1st updated to 2.0.0 and now 2.0.1

@@Food-is_Life yes keep them in 1.5.0 mine are one of the first and i got the 1.4.6 update of the dead the lef bud 100 to 0 in 1 hour 40mins, so i went to warranty and they only changed the left bud.
Now they are strange like if the new bud have even more mAh or the right bud is also bad I dont know, the left bud pass from 100% to 99% in 30 mins in those 30 mins the right bud went from 100% to 89% it's 11%% in 30 mins an the other one just 1%, after that both decrease in a average way the left bud about 4~5% each 15 mins and the right 6% each 15 mins.
So making the maths the left bug gaves me like 6 hours and the right 4.5 (LDAC codec with noise cancelling, no DSEE, EQ Neutral, adaptative control off, no speak to chat, no voice assistant, also continues playing of musif volume at 50%)
My buds are out of battery in 30 mins from full. Already updated to the latest firmwre and software
Truth & Solution for sony wf-1000xm4 battery drain:
After considerable research I now think I understand the XM4 battery problem.
The previous XM3 uses a standard 3.7v 60mAh battery like the Varta CP1254 A3.
For additional battery life in the XM4, Sony switched to the new ZeniPower Z55H, which is physically identical but 3.85v 75mAh (higher voltage, 25% greater capacity).
My educated guess is that :
(a) Sony was unable to get sufficient quantities of the new Z55H early the XM4 production, so instead substituted readily available 3.7v XM3 batteries, and;
(b) optimized later versions of XM4 firmware (1.4.2+) for 3.85v batteries.
The problem is that firmware optimized for 3.85v batteries could overcharge and permanently damage 3.7v batteries in addition to not estimating charge level correctly.
Also, customers with 3.7v batteries would likely always get less than advertised battery life.
What Sony should have done was publicize a recall of all XM4 units with battery problems, but instead instituted a secret extended warranty just for those customers complaining about battery problems, likely to minimize bad publicity, lost sales, and repair/replacement costs.
If so, that's consumer fraud (a term I do not use lightly).
Like the XM3, the XM5 should not have a battery problem like the XM4 unless Sony again substitutes different batteries.
p.s. To prevent recurrence of the problem, when replacing batteries in the XM4 it is essential to use 3.85v 75mAh batteries (which are now available on eBay & other websites).
Unfortunately, some battery sellers are incorrectly indicating that 3.7v batteries can be used.

I've had the XM4s for a year now, and after upgrading to 2.0.1 a few days ago... I have to say that not only has the battery issue NOT been fixed, but it's got worse. In fact in a couple of hours Sony's technical service will come to pick them up.
Right now they were lasting a total of 62 minutes for the left earphone and 25 minutes for the right one. A disaster.

In that case, I highly recommend not to update at all if your xm4 has been working fine
same story for me, but the guarantee ended 2 months ago, so they are not replacing them :(
So i decided to use my XM4s again and have similar problems after updating. right earbud overheating and not lasting past 40 minutes. the left one weirdly is doing fine. I just ordered 2 new batteries and gonna fix them instead of throwing them away but this is my last sony product i bought ever or at least wait 6-12 months after a product release and look up potential problems befor buying next time.

I wish the battery problem was the least of my problems with these buds! My most frustrating problem is that my buds stop pairing with each other about 10 -30 secs after I let go of touching them, if I keep my fingers on either side of my face then no problem but that is of course totally impractical and silly looking!😂 Never Sony again for me, I moved back to my beloved Sennheiser headphones, I don’t know if I can ever trust expensive Bluetooth buds again!
2nd that! I am now looking at China brands such as Edifier, Earfun, Soundpeats, Rose Technics... which are able to deliver features usually found in those expensive earbuds but at wallet-friendly price points
This is the firmware that came with the WXM5s and I'm sure they tested the battery on that so hopefully this will fix the battery issues

Sony attitude is poor. Even after a life time of various sony products since walkman, I just bought Samsung Galaxy buds 2 pro. No looking back. Just can't trust Sony anymore. Xm5 also have the same issues ...

So you got 8hrs, but you didn't state if that was WITH CONTINUOUS audio being played? I have a feeling you weren't playing audio for the majority of the time. Were you simply using ANC and/or pass-through for 80-90% of the day with no actual audio/music being played?

For your information… It was continuous usage, with ANC on and playing music spotify throughout from 100% until 0%. Never once did I ever stop playing music or even take out the earbuds… that include eating, ordering food, going to restroom etc
i have been doing the same battery test for all the earbuds I reviewed in this channel. it is never easy to wear earbuds for many hours continuously and listening to music non-stop.
So far… i think Creative Outlier Air V2 is the only model whereby I had to stop wearing the earbuds around the 10th hour mark with the music still playing, because i had to go for a shower
Other than that… all other earbuds i wear until it reaches 0%
Anyway… i leave it to you to believe whether this battery test I did is true or fake ☺️
@@JonnyZhu Thank you for the clarification. So it seems 2.0.1 totally fixes XM4... finally. Man it's been a LOOOOONG road that's probably cost Sony millions in warranty repairs & refunds. I just find it amazing their experience with the XM4 and Linkbuds FW disasters hasn't resulted in a company wide policy change on FW updates. They just shipped a new FW for the WF-C700n to add multipoint and a bunch of new features.
I know right!!!! And coupled that with really bad after-sales customer service from Sony Singapore. It is enough to make me avoid Sony for a while.
I am just relieved that this firmware update finally ended this battery drain issue.
For the new wf1000xm5… i am not sure if I will get it or not
They sound amazing, but my right earbud will not fully charge and it drains very fast while the left fully charges and lasts quite a while. Very disappointed for a costly product that should last for years and years.

I don't know about others but my case is different. My buds are one year old and i haven't updated my buds for the past 10 months and directly updated them to 2.0.1 and they are working good with no such battery draining problems 😅

It would appear that this is a very common problem. Took mine to Sony service center today, they said they will get back to me in about a week. Has anyone had theirs repaired by Sony?
I sent mine in with warranty but second hand

@@JonnyZhu I think the culprit is the sony connect app, at first my earbuds battery is at 80% . then i open again using the app it's now 60-70%.

I've updated my WF-1000M4 (2.0.1) and got battery draining issues. The right earbud only lives up for about half an hour before turning off. But there is a chinese github project to downgrade the firmware. -I'll update if it solved the issue.

@@alexandruionescu2702 No, not at all. But I replaced the battery pack on both sides, now they work fine. It wasn't that hard to do.

Terrible customer service from Sony. Mine are overheating and drain in less than 30 minutes, no replacement even if under warranty.

@@JonnyZhu Noted, will do! I got them brand new from a friend that had WH and WF mx4 but didn't want the buds. I payed 100$ for them and stopped the update as soon as it started. Multipoint would be good but it connects so fast that it is not an issue also battery is king here.
I have a serious problem with battery issue after updated to the latest firmware ... drain so fast not more than 2 hours .. special the left pair is dramatically drains so fast ... any there a solution with this issue?!!

I tried 2.0.1 and it didn't solve it. 45 min flat. Try reset & initialize back to factory settings. Finally deactivate everything including the EQ. Then it lasts but become a dumb earphone again ... so even after life time of Sony, decided not to get the xm5 which seems to have same issues ... & Just bought Samsung bud 2 pro. Even if it is a dud, I paid half the price + it was tuned by AKG so I'm hopeful ...

I totally agree with you .. I still use Samsung Buds Pro 1 and working really fine ... sound and battery lasts long, really I'm pissed off with Sony, won't buy with Sony 1000XM5 or newer ... I'm really satisfied with Buds Pro 1 except one thing annoying me that sometimes the pair falls down.

Unfortunately I have not noticed any difference with my XM4s after 2.0.1 update. They are still draining energy and die in 30-40 min. I am really frustrated...
And what is interesting, the right bud doesn't even charge up to 100%, only up to 76-77%. Really strange.
Try to use a 5W/1A charger… it works for me.
