I know it'll sound nerdy, but dude.. always wear eye protection, specially metal you just cut and didn't deburr. 12:51 you almost lost an eye ;)
Should also never get under a car that's only being supported by 1 thing. There should always be a backup jack or something under there. Those ramps could fail easily, especially on a slope
I have this on my S3, it makes a huge night and day difference in terms of sound both inside and outside. Rumble and exhaust note particularly at around 3000-4000rpm is very noticeable but not obnoxious. My neighbor can also tell the difference too (he's a car guy too so he's cool with it).
Thanks for the time and effort in doing this video pal, great stuff.
Great video! Thanks so much for posting! I'm about to do this to my Golf R and this gave me all the confidence I need. Cheers!
SOUNDS AWESOME!!!! it has that extra bit of grunt
Great vid, have you considered the artificial resonance put out by the soundaktor would overshadow the delete's difference inside the car. Clear difference outside
Dang took a hard hit to the noggin 😂 12:50
Liana Yeung not gonna lie I LOL but I'm a fan of this dude. Didn't laugh out of malice.
Hahaha just saw it, poor guy !
I got a kick out of it because he left it in and because ive had stuff fall on me.
who esle did watch it more than once xD
Alright thanks for letting me know, now im thinking to get a catback exhaust instead of the res delete. Keep up the good work and good day
Hey Zed I’m a little late to the party but just got my Lapiz blue 2017 golf R last month and I’m looking to do some schtuff on it😜Thanks for a great easy to follow step by step vid. Cheers 🍻
cool work. i can tell a difference.
If you still have that stock resonator, what was the measurement from the back from where you made the cut? thx
Do you have your soundaktor on still? If so, that might be detracting from the real noise gains the res delete made.
Good work! Would you mind to include the link to buy that Audi part? Thank!
Get rid of your muffler or put a different one on,Did you do a cat delete that will make it louder without taking the resonator off.I have a Genesis 3.8 and gutted my mid cats and it made a difference I will eventually take out my resonator.
I noticed a difference in the sound, the res delete was certainly worth it for the deeper tone imo.
Hey Zed sorry to be thick can you let me know what the part number is and what car its made for as its an Audi part and not a VW part I live in the UK and the dealers are difficult to deal with so as much info as poss would be FAB cheers Marco
3 years late lol but nice DIY project man ! I just bought a MK6 Golf R, would you know if the resonator is the same as the MK7 ? Definitely want to do this mod as well
Anyone knows if there is a similar product for the MK6 Golf R?
Funny how i heard your dashcam turn on and i knew exactly that we have the same camera lol.
I too have a hard time noticing the difference in my car when I mod something. No idea why.
Good video and definitely good choice to go with OEM. THX!
Did you not notice any difference when revving in neutral? Where was you when it was being revved in the bathroom?
I would have turned soundaktor to zero with obd eleven too bro. Thanks for sharing, wanted to know how the drone is.
I did the same thing to my GTI and it's a small gain in sound. The farts get a little louder but it's not much of a difference.
Does it affect the fuel effeciency
And what is the part# for the audi OEM res delete?
could you tell me if you have any drone while driving?
Hi where to order the resonator delete from?
Did you get DRONE inside? I'd like to do this on my Octavia 1.8 TSI my16, 55mm exhaust diammeter. What kind of clamp did you use, one of those is the factory before the resonator? Nice video, i liked it!
Very nice video!
The difference when you tested in neutral was obviously!
I suppose the car has very good noise insulation thats why you didn't noticed that difference from inside. Don't worry. The little noise is acceptable when you cruising. If there was too much noise it would be annoying
You guys should check out the SEAT Leon Cupra for noise. Same engine as the Golf R but no need for exhaust mods
Where did you buy shifting paddles?
It sounds way better on startup... I did that to my wife's GTi and it sounds way better during start ups; enough that people look.
How is it cruising on the highway, any drone?
I went with a catless downpipe with completely stock cat back, huge difference in sound.
Another excellent vid. Very entertaining and interesting.
I noticed a difference when I did the muffler delete on my GTI but the tips are not cheap
9 -13 subtract 2 - 13 is how much ?
Hey zed,
i do have one question.
Were you in race mode when you test drive the s3 resonator delete ? I do want to make it a little bit louder on the outside but not the inside. I Also live with someone that needs to approve my mods haha
So you want to mod your exhaust so everyone can here it more except you? Seems like a waste of time/effort no?
What part of NY are you in.....I need a pipe cutter to do this same install and i don't want to buy the pipe cutter for a one time use...((oo)). I do have a sawzal that someone is going to let me borrow, so will most likely use that! Also, i'm only bringing this up because you blurred your license plate at the end, but during the video it's clearly visible in other parts. Thanks
Yo. Im gonna do this to my s3 .sounds awesome. I don't want to much exhaust im 40 with kids but this sounds sweet
Is he not blocking the front tires while the car is on the ramp?
Nice one! Just had my BackBox swapped for two straight pipes on my Z4 this week
I want to make the z4 sound better too, but I wish there was a resonator delete kit for it.

That Blue Miata though!
Hey brother ! Where'd ylu get those paddle shifters ?
Is it a v6? Single tip?
sounds great nice job
I don't think it's just placebo.
I thought it was just me, but I on my Passat, I never ever really noticed any Turbo Noise...until after I did the delete.
Awesome video! thanks!
definitely sound better from the rear.
Drone level ?
Less restriction.
Definitely less muffled more gurgle.
Hey zed4me I noticed you didn't file the pipe after you cut it. Anytime you use a cutter like that it leaves a lip inside the pipe. Air can meet resistance if it's not smooth.
I ran my finger along the lip, it was pretty smooth. I filed one part that was a little rough but I think it wouldn't make too big of a difference anyway.
zed4me right on. Sounds good.
I have resonator delete on my R too, at first there not much difference on the inside but on the outside its loud, it gets more throatier and more rumble in race mode, youll def hear a difference in a tunnel or underground carpark.
In a tunnel you definitely hear the difference
LOL 12min 50 deserves a like!
12.50 ...whoop whoop ..nice vid man
IS there any negatives about deleting it? fuel consumption? Illegal? just curious as I'm wanting mine to be louder
Parsons no difference to fuel consumption & its not illegal
Thanks for the video. I have been told that resonator deletes aren't good for the car/engine in the long-run, as it messes with the car sensors and the exhaust fumes coming from the engine... is this true? I was keen on getting one installed before I was told this!
Absolutely false. This has nothing to do with sensors/exhaust fumes. The resonator's job is to cancel out certain low frequencies. It does not act like a muffler or catalytic converter in any way which are the parts that could cause the problems you mention.
@@zed4me awesome, so 0 impact on engine/car longevity?
@@willn9497 yes
Rims? Rse10?
Maybe it will sound a little more different when u change the mufflers
Hows it working out for you?
its been a month for you so far... :) I just bought mine about 2 weeks ago
I love it! Sounds great. Natural without soundaktor!
Now would you recommend spending around 200 bucks for a premade pipe from audi/vw or ecs tuning or 034 motorsport and a cutting tool, or just pay a shop to do everything for 60 bucks?
60 bucks to a shop and it's irreversible. I would go with OEM so it's fully reversible. Like I put mine back on and now I have the pipe for sale. If I went with a shop it'd be irreversible. If you want it I can give you a good deal, hit me up on Instagram. 😀
i mean instead of them weldiing the pipe on, i can buy a clamp that they can use instead so itll be reversible
Lil_ Danny904 sure, that works, if you make sure they use thicker gauge stainless steel but then youd be looking at a lot more than $60 with clamps and materials.
yeah true, hell idk what to do, i just want more sound, just dont wanna spend over a grand for an exhaust or do the work myself, i dont feel like i have the mental compacity to do so
Sounds so much better
why dont you delete the muffler altogether
Buddy please tell me if theres a drome with this decat downpipe and res delete. I want to do this mods to my R tomorrow. But dont want drone to be bad on high way
Atish Sewjith at 3k rpm there's a change in the valve timing which sets off a little drone. I think the resonator takes care of that rpm drone specifically so you can hear it at 3k rpm which is around 80mph.
Drone....not drome
you think you get a tinsy winsy gain of power out if this delete?
I doubt it
Great videos, no detail too small...
Will this work for the regular git or is it just for the R?
The delete on the GTI is different. Different shape resonator.
I took mine to my local exhaust shop, they charged $50 and was done in 30 mins. Seems like a better way.
I noticed you weren't using your right hand, did you injure it doing this procedure?
Also, always wear eye protection when working on your cars.
Doug Maverick I'm left handed :)
I did this on my R. I have an AWE non resonated downpipe. Once warmed up its sounds pretty good. For me a little too loud but stock was way to quiet. There is drone on the highway but not unbearable. It's been a few months now, I'm used to it now. At full tilt if I shift near redline I get a backfire. I was told that normal for the mod.
Neil Porter are you dsg or manual? Just curious if the back fire happens on a manual.
It's a manual.
I also have a manual with an AWE non-resonated downpipe and was thinking of doing this resonator-delete mod. Do you have access to turning on or off the exhaust valves manually? I'm wondering if keeping the valves off with something like the AWE Switchpath Remote will keep it quiet-ish.
Francis Luu No I don't. I might get an OBDeleven.
I would suggest going with an APR or Unitronic tune, then you'll notice a difference. Catless downpipes would make the turbo spool a lot louder, too.
Ryan Tang...Catless Downpipe...NOWHERE in the US is that street legal, so if you don't care about pollution and contributing to destroying the environment more knock yourself out. You must be a kid and you'll regret it in the end...for what being able to "hear your turbo spool louder"
@@harryberry474 imagine talking shit on a comment from 4 years ago, Al Gore 🤣
It's not illegal to have one in Michigan. No professional shop will install it for you, but do some research. Not every state has emissions checks. Derp....
@@ryanmoore7927 ...yep a kid, missed the point about regretting in "the end" when you're wondering why at 70 years old that helped "f" the planet...4 years later same mentality yeah louder turbo spool cause that's what's important
@@harryberry474 I'm sorry that your parents named you harry berry. Must have been tough growing up.
@@harryberry474 you sound like a tree huggin’ pos. Go to Canada then you pansey
What about the z4 reasonetor delete? Would you recommend it
Much harder to do.. I've yet to be able to figure out how to do it myself but I've heard deleting the resonator causes a lot of droning. I've heard to cut out the last catalysts which are after the 2nd O2 sensors. May try to do that but with all the curves its kinda hard.
where did you get the shift paddels, are they the original?
There's a video on it on my channel
I have a 2016 gti and I did a resonator delete and muffler delete, and it's not that loud, but you can definitely hear the difference.
Juan Olmos i have just a catback lol. Totally different tone and a little bit louder, downpipe is the key to loudness
Hi
do you know how to keep exhaust pip opened all the time?
thx
You need VCDS, just shine a flashlight and when it’s open, use VCDS to turn off the flap function
thanks for the reply, have done that before and do you have video for how to do it by VCDS ?
الملحقية الثقافية العمانية - لندن I don't have a video of it but it should be pretty easy to find a guide online if you Google
nice video bro. debating doing this to my UK spec R. Worth it or not?
5 years late to this party, however your spec car will sound loads better then what we drive in the States. You probably knows this by now though lol. Cheers
What's the decibels like, anyone know if it's Australian legal
soloxcan no difference. A muffler delete would make it much louder though.
muffler dlt is BS ..trust
Willy Lamb No difference? It made a pretty big difference to my S3, especially for what it is.
It is legal in Australia mate
Is your exhaust flap always open with VCDS ?
Getting OBDEleven soon and will be doing that mod.
do a software chance in vagcom VCDS you can chance the para iunto a race sound. In the Netherlands we all do and that would be a real chance
I've done that with obdeleven and yes it sounds awesome now!
What change would that be?
great video! and a nice mod. now i want to delete mine also :)
Would a mod like this void warranty or affect it?
It has to affect the part that has warranty issue, probably no.
Are there any downside effects of having this done to a car??
Nothing to the car
16:36 does that noise happen every time you start it
yep
The sound is very good, have anyone tried opening the muffler and clear everything inside out leaving an empty muffler box, with inlet and outlet short on both sides, instead of cutting out the muffler
I thought about that too. By definition, the resonator takes care of an obnoxious frequency. And most people here are talking more about the noise increase, rather than the performance aspect. Did you ever do the mod??
@@jameskujawski6651 I done it , it's much better but hard to weld it back as my muffler has two thin layers, so constant having little leak here and there . But I'm new to welding too so , someone with good experience might not find it hard. But believe me it's much better, loud and still maintain deep tone.
How about and exhaust cutout in the location of the resonator?
CrispCarGuru great idea! I'd do it except the cutouts tend to rust quickly and also this resonator delete isn't a straight pipe, there's a curve in it
what parts on the cutouts tend to rust?
the actuator.. leads to it being stuck open or closed or partially etc
Did you need a hanger plier to remove it?
No
Flash your ECU to handle your mods.. you’ll notice a difference
Two hands on the wheel means you can upshift with the other hand? 101 driving school? #passedyourtest?
Daniel Roberts He was obviously holding the camera with his other hand 🤦♂️
Do you loose any power doing this?
Slab - no none.
Why delete the resonator and not the muffler? Doesn't the resonator get rid of the raspy noise.
Its a lot easier to delete the resonator and also resonator delete gives you the deep throaty exhaust note.
The Res Del adds gurgle
Soundacter sounds like its muffled the exhaust note
Can you do this on a mk6? Someone please answer!!
Yeah but the part number is different
@@zed4me where abouts are you located? I am in aus, have a mk6 R & cannot find one for the life of me
Sounds like you have a dash cam!
well done man. nice DYI. fuck the haters
Get Electric exhaust cutout valves installation
BB king if any company wants to sponsor one I'd be happy to try it out.
Awesome video! But you should wear safety glasses.
a downpipe with res delete will make it great
2000% profit margins not bad
Sounds better :)
