I've been getting questions on how I get 4K slow motion in my vlogs with the Sony APS-C cameras - this is how! I've never upscaled a whole video before, usually it's just a few clips in a 4K video, but I'm still impressed. I just wanted to show you guys that this is possible! :) Have a great day!!
do you use any gimbal with this?
yea it was a mix :)
Great Video! Have you also tried actually shooting in 4k and using optical flow in premiere pro to slow it down?
@@alphafilmsuk. Wouldn't be enough to make that footage look smooth and slow enough.
This is so clean for 1080 upscale to 4k. VERY impressive!

Love your channel. You always bring quality content. Flow is smooth. Keep pushing. Stay safe... bless!
thank you! :)
I felt in love with your content since the first time I saw your video. Keep it up, man!
Happy to hear that! :)
Omg how do you got that look...
Just few days back purchased a6600 and 18-105 f4 lens and I am struggling a lot...
Please help me....
Please tell me which pp do u use and sutter and iso?
Did you din got any noise in the clip?
I just bought this sony a6400 camera and I was researching its potential, love the short film u did, thank u sweet heart for the lovely video 💛
can it use for educational video shooting with white board/ interactieve panel for CZcams videos???
Yes, an upscaled HD looks better and it's probably because of the compression. Something is lost in HD normally on the way. Or maybe 4K is not so obvious if you don't have a huge screen and a very good compression.
genial video pero solo quede con una duda... con que ajustes lo exportas ?
What are your tips for color editing ? I am new and just got the camera and would like a bit of brighter footage
For nebiew, what the best setting and preset for video and still? Because i dont understand colour grading
are you editing in a 1080 timeline or 4k timeline? I use davinci resolve but have used premier in the past so i'm trying to convert your tips over to resolve, thanks!
Does it work just for uploading videos on youtube or do i have already a good quality if i export the video on premiere pro in mp4-file?
So shooting at 4K / 60fps / 30p 100M should look much better in slowmotion and does work good? 🤔
The footage looks so good!!
thanks! :)
Do you have an updated gear list for everything you're using? On your about page it says your main lens is the Sony 18-105 but it seems like you use the Sigma 16mm the most.
Ah actually it is out dated, alwasys for get that the about page exsists lol - i'll update it tomo :) thanks for pointing it out!
Bonjour,
Sorry for lu english but did you use a gimbal ? The stabilisation is good
Should I get the sony 35mm 1.8 with oss or the sigma 30mm 1.4 without oss? I do product videos, and street photography with a sony a6300 (no ibis). I really can't decide; anyone please help.
Hey man that's a quality of a work. Can I know the frame rate you shot on 4K. Thanks
Love your channel !!
Glad you enjoy it!
Hello , sequency in dimension 4k ? or just export in 4k
Please , Up the settings to export like this , Love it
can anyone explain me what is the upscaling? Is he filming in 4k ou 1080? i don't get that
Hello sir . Want a suggestion from U.... I jst started making travelling videos nd bought sony a6400 with 18-135 lens.... So should I buy sigma 16 mm f1.4 ... Or should I get a action camera .. what should I buy first MY BUDGET IS TIGHT so I can only buy any one for now
Love this! I have the exact same setup 😆 btw can you make a video on your A6400 settings? As in what picture profile do you use?
Sure,, there is a video about my PP on the a6300 I use kinda the same :) it's cine4
Just bought my a6400 + Sigma 16..Looking forward to your Luts..😁
Spreadin' knowledge. I like it 💯
💯 :)!!
Great content bro love the vlog 👌 and I was amazed by the quality and sharp video so can you tell me what's your settings and the log you used
And can I get a similar quality and sharpness with the kit lens 16-50
bruh ...this is clean as hell
4k compression and 1080p compression on youtube is different, for those who cant go up to 4k when scaling up you can always vp9 which is basically uploading at 1440p
cool! :)
Should I buy sony a6400 with kit lens or only with sigma 16 mm or 30 mm lens? Kit lens make sense?
Nice video man! I'm trying to understand how to use my camera at my best! I bought your Luts for my a6400, I hope to get good results :)
Thank you so much! Let me know if you need any help with them :)
Do you apply any sharpening or keep as is?
Does this work using final cut?
Would you recommend this camera for us making CZcams videos and Instagram stuff? Or lean towards a higher end camera
Yea I can 100% recommend it, it's still good for sure!
Soft Smooth & Lovely Footage ❤️
what so just shoot in 1080P 60fps then upscale to 200??? is that the key ?
Very useful. Thanks.
Hey man! When you shoot with 4K, is it better to export in full 4K or downscale everything to 1080P for sharper videos? Ive been shooting in 1080p and im not that happy with the clarity of the videos, been wanting to try 4k! Thanks :)
I shoot everything in 4K and the 120FPS clips i upscale to 4K - that's how all my photo vlogs are made :)
do you use the same picture profile settings on your slow motion footage? what frame rate 120fps or 60fps?
Yea same pp, but I dont take the detail down, i film most of my slow mo in 120p
Can It capture 4k image
And 4k videos on 60fps ?
I bought your cine4 lut pack this week, and i love it so far! And did you shoot in 60fps or in 120fps?
thank you!! I shot 120fps :)
@@thaticelandicguy Cool, Thanks!
What’s the background music? I like it
The footage is buttery smooth as always! I have the same cam and lens setup and I'm wondering if your using a gimbal when recording footage like this? I find myself with very shakey video because of the lack of stabalization.
Thank you! That was a mix of both :) But at 20% slow motion it's smooth ahah :)
0:26 sick transition
What a plugin for voice?
I have Sony a6400 and sony 18-105 mm and i want to buy sigma 16 mm 1.4 , is it easy to stabilize sigma with gimbal ?
yea it is, there can be some micro jitters since neither the lens nor camera is stabilized, so make sure to balance it good on the gimbal, ninja walk and then you can post stabilize and you are good! :)
@@thaticelandicguy I do cinematic video and vlogs, what do you think the best lens for Sony a6400 with gimbal, I have Sony 18-105 4G and I think Sigma 16 1.4 or Sigma 30 or Sony 35 1.8
This is awesome!!
thanks man!
Amazing videos & super content.... keep rocking sir
thank you!! :)
From what I understand, it's YT's codecs that are responsible for the loss in quality when uploading. For most CZcamsrs, when you upload in 1080p or less, YT uses the AVC codec which compresses it a bit more resulting in a relatively poor image quality and a smaller file size when compared to VP09 codec footage. I believe the reasoning behind this is to save on costs for data storage which I understand costs YT millions of dollars/year. So guys, always remember to upload in 1440p. Awesome video btw. Cheers!
Great! We want a full tutorial (please 🙏)
Excellent video, thanks! As an aside, if you were buying a new camera now, would you still buy the A6400 or is it worth it to go to the A6600 for IBIS and better battery? As always, your enthusiasm is amazing! Thanks again for the video!
I bought my a6400 like 2 months ago and was thinking exacly this. Comming from the a6300 I thought the upgrade from a6400 to a6600 not to be worth it for me personally considering the price difference. But that was my opinion :)
@@thaticelandicguy Thanks!!
Amazing work
thank you! :)
I just found your channel and its so underrated you deserve so much more subs! I see you used to use the A6300 and now use the A6400 do you find the lack of built in image stabalization a problem? Cheers!
thank you so much! no not really tbh, but maybe it's because I'm used to it x)
@@thaticelandicguy Thanks for your reply dude! I've been holding and holding on pulling on the trigger on buying the A6400 and watching your videos I think i've decided on getting it, thanks again!
hi! how you did the slow mo if at 4k a6400 shooots 25/30 fps
I upscaled the clips. Its not true 4k but it works for yt videos imo
How do you avoid having grain in your footage?
Lower iso... Buy good lens, or add more light into the scene
Hi Man :) Great video, you made my day. Now I hope that slow motion in my a6400 will become useable. What settings do you use? S&Q in 120p or regular mode XAVC S HD? Do you use any camera sharping in Picture Profile?
Just regular 120fps then I have details to 0 in FHD.
For 4K footage I have detail to -4 but I think that with FHD footage if I have that at -4 it becomes a lttle to washed out. It's already not the sharpest footage in town so :)
Haha great video again, thanks for tip man. You two always have fun ;) Peace!
Yea lol hahaha thanks man!
Can we get a more in-depth tutorial on upscaling the footage?
Boss that bro!
Hi, thanks for sharing these videos with so many terrific ideas. My 1080p slow motion footage looks awful and there is no point of upscaling it. I have found videos that state that it looks awful by factory. What is your secret?
A proper lense is key.
Thanks for your videos man! This trick working in final cut?
Yubb!
thks amazing ^^
Can you do a step by step video on how to actually do the setting win premier pro 😅
What settings? 😅
THAT ICELANDIC GUY. The frame settings . I am aware of that concept but I haven’t fully grasp it . I actually just got my a6400 yesterday and 4K was very for me and I really liked how you did these shots in those video.
Did you shoot in 4k slow motion directly from the camera settings or you have changed it in editing?
shot in 1080p 120FPS then I slow it down and upscale in post
@@thaticelandicguy THX
AWESOME, I will try it out with my a6300 😁
do it man!
how was it? cool quality?
The sequence in 1920 x 1080 and export in H.264 , CZcams 2160 4k ultra HD , VBR 1 PASS ???'?
Quel profil de couleur? Les couleurs sont magnifique . beau travail
My dream camera 😌
so you mean i will shoot 1080p, 120fps, and then i will upscale it to 200% in PR? then it is now 4k?is it right?
yes, but if you compare it to the real 4k 120 fps from the sony a7s iii for example you fall right of from your feets into space :-)
I always edit in a 1080 timeline, and export in 4k in PP. Is this the same idea? Or is it different?
Nope. Upscaling from 1080p footage to 4k footage couldn't bring the same quality as pure 4k.
very true, it's never going to be the same, but tbh I think on YT upscaled FHD looks sharper then regular FHD. But don't get me wrong, it's not close to true 4k :)
Thank you for your answer😎🎞
I heared that that Sony A6400 actually shoots at 6k but crops it down while shooting 4k. Maybe If your shooting full hd the actual video is also 4k.
love the accent dude!
The king has spoken 😂
He knows his stuff, you need to have that lens!!
What is the difference in 6400L and 6400M
Am I the only who doesn't get how to actually get it to work? Using the a6400 iv changed it to 1080p and 120fps 100mm but when I record (in video or manual mode) it records at normal speed and the playback is also normal speed. Is it supposed to do that?
Slow down in post production
@@thaticelandicguy 🤦 Oh...
Thanks ☺️
what picture profile do you shoot in?
cine4! :)
:)) here i'm never disappointed. Allways little pice of happines inside for free :P
I hope you one day decide to do every day vlog
One day I'll do daily vlogs lol! :)
Please give me original Peter video link ;)
What's the bitrate are you exporting it at?.
for this one I went 96/120 :)
@@thaticelandicguy Hi, so you use VBR 1 pass 96/120 in the rendering option not CBR ?
On a small screen like a phone it looks really nice and crisp and almost unnoticeable but when on an actual big monitor you can tell it's been blown up 4 times regardless of the upscale and sharpening :/ Especially when there's motion blur it's just super noisy and pixelated and almost looks compressed.
I originally got the a6400 for photo but started doing video taking advantage of the 4k, and both look GREAT but just some shots (slomo) just can't make them look perfect because it's 1080p... Stabilization and cropping reduces resolution too which is not ideal either. WANT 4k 60!!!
Nice
Legend!
great
Is the slow motion shot taken in 30 frames? It's a very good shot!
60 frames and 120 frames
But you didn’t show us how to do it
Gimbal or Handheld?
booth!
I tried all day with 3 different lenses. All my videos came out grainy, or blurry. iPhone came out way better unfortunately.
I’ve followed so many different Chanel’s setting to no benefit
Slomow in 4K possible with 6400 ?
Technically no, but you can upscale it like I did in this video
@@thaticelandicguy ok so full hd 1080 in slowmo when shooting ?
it looks good,. cause the bitrate is high out of the Sony 6400
Great video! Just recently started shooting at FHD 120fps. Man, I didn't realize that you could upscale it to UHD and still look amazing. I'll try to do that next time. Thank you!
Happy you found it helpful! It's a good trick especially for yt videos. Wouldn't use it if you are doing client works 😅
@@thaticelandicguywhy don’t working for client videos?
@@baka.peter. guess it's because YT compression in 4k makes it better looking
I'm switching from Nikon D3300 + 35mm F1.8 to Sony a6100 + Sigma 30mm F1.4.
I'd like to do do street photography, portraits and architecture photography, but I also need flippy screen and reliable autofocus to make videos for my CZcams channels. Canon EF-M has no growing possibilities to full-frame and Nikon Z50 is 150/200€ more expensive, has lower resolution and older sensor, worse autofocus and a flip-down screen that is useless on a tripod. Moreover there's no Sigma 30mm F1.4-alike lens on Z mount, while APS-C lens selection on Sony looks better. I also thought about switching to Fuji, but the X-T200 costs as much as an X-T30 here in Italy, they have less third-party lenses and their good ones are quite expensive. Moreover, as it is with Canon EF-M, there's no full-frame growing future here.
Anyway, I know I'm gonna miss the handling and solidity of my trusty Nikon D3300, but do you think I made the right choice?
For what concerns the UHD upscaling thing, I think that there are multiple factors in play:
1) In generale eccellent FHD doesn't look bad compared to most 4KUHD images, so probably you expected worse than it actually can be
2) a6400 FHD probably still downscales more pixels into an FHD image, and this, together with very good lens sharpness, gives the sensation of a crisper FHD image than expected
3) When you upscale FHD to 4KUHD, you have the best scenario for upscaling, as you are basically turning one FHD pixel into an NxN square, where N is an integer number. Therefore there's not much interpolation needed and if the software does interpolation of any kind, it is more effective. I expect 6K upscaled to look better than 5K, for example
4) Adobe is putting some effort into improving their upscaling algorithms (think about how the Google Pixel 5 phone does 2x zoom on their phones without much loss in quality). For example, they put specific intelligent upscaling features in After Effects and Photoshop. Maybe they are applying some of their gained knowledge into better upscaling, interpolation and conversion algorithms for exporting project files, even if not officially declared
5) When you are exporting and creating a file, end even more when CZcams does its own compression over it, the compression algorithms have more impact on frames that had more resolution and details in the first place, so in the end you may perceive less difference between native and upscaled frames: most of it has probably gone away (together with general quality and fidelity) during the double/triple compression process.
Just guessing, though
about the cameras I think you did a nice choice. I however am i big sony boy and haven't used other cameras since my old Canon 60D that i had a few years ago so I'll be honest i don't know alot about the other cameras now adays.
On what you said about the upscaling thing that's super intresting never really thought about it this way. Makes sense, and the technology is always becomming better.
@@thaticelandicguy For what I've seen online, the Canon M6 II has the better sensor of the bunch, with high resolution and detail and good dynamic range. Nikon Z50's has the lowest resolution and it's quite old (same of D500?). Canon and Sony autofocus are almost on part (Canon dual pixel autofocus is still the best in some situations, but many tracking options of Sony are better for most situations), but Fuji's one is very good, too. Nikon isn't bad, but maybe it's the worst of the bunch (just maybe).
For handling and feel... Sony APS-C cameras are terrible, especially whatever is not an a6600 (which has updated grip), the Fujis have character, but the best is probably the Nikon Z50, with Canon M6 II following next. For lens selection...there are basically no Nikon Z APS-C lenses, while Sony and Canon have few good options, complemented by wider third-party choices. Fuji has the best first-party APS-C lenses selection, as they have no full-frame cameras and therefore they are focused on APS-C (medium format is totally another segment of the market and a different mount), but they have maybe slightly less third-party support.
For what concerns upscaling... take everything I said with a grain of salt, as I may be wrong
