    Giving Super Thanks as a CZcams viewer:
    How can you tell if your favorite CZcamsr is accepting Super Thanks comments? You should see the option on any video page, right below the title beside the thumbs up, dislike, and share buttons. The option says "THANKS" and shows a little heart with a money sign symbol.
    Here's where you can find Super Thanks as a viewer.
    After clicking that, write in your comment and choose just how much you want to give.
    CZcams currently provides four different options: $2, $5, $10, and $50. Each one will provide a different color highlight to your comment so it stands out as a Super Thanks comment.

    Thanks for this - we have submitted our build sheet for our 17B - it's always nice to see them "in use" with things and dogs and people in them. Great video. 👍

      Glad it was helpful! We are always interested in what owners would have changed if they had to do it over again.

    Great job on the video tour. We have a 17B as well with the full time double bed. It comes with a real, inner spring, mattress ! We got it new in 2019, have travelled between the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean with it and think it’s a perfect couples trailer. It’s easy to tow, dry weight is only 2400 lbs, fully loaded it’s 3200 according to a CAT scale. The small size has allowed us to squeeze into campsites that would not have been possible if it was a foot longer. Very well built, great factory support for any questions. We ordered it with custom fabric, counter tops and flooring. The manual awning is much stronger than the electric, we even use it in heavy rain to provide a dry area for sitting, cooking, leave our shoes out etc. The bath is small but functional, the outside shower is also an option, especially for our dog😊.

      Thanks! We’re so happy to hear you’re getting lots of use out of your 17B. And when it comes time to sell, it retains its value quite well. Thanks so much for sharing. We’d love to tour yours one day too!

      Looking for a small TT and this model is at the top of our list. As our intent is to drive across country as well, it sounds like you found it more than sufficient. My question is how well does it tow?

    • @lanarkwanderer
      @lanarkwanderer Před rokem +2

      @@LittleMilton1972 I think it tows very well. We tow with a full sized pickup truck, no weight distribution hitch, straight onto a ball. We did buy a WDH and found it didn’t make any difference and was a pain to connect and reconnect. It’s effortless to tow, never any hint of sway in winds, passing, being passed. We don’t exceed the speed limit.
      We travel with a small dog as well. We have lived on sailboats for months at a time so conditioned to living in small spaces.
      I’ve towed our sailboats (6000 lbs) back and forth from Canada to Florida in the winter numerous times so I’m familiar with towing.
      This trailer has plenty of storage for extended trips without time spent restocking. We ordered the larger 3 way fridge, solar panel additional battery. Very self sufficient. We carry a small Honda generator that could be used to run the air conditioning but haven’t needed to do that. We got the additional insulation and thermal windows, so a bit quieter, warmer, more of a 3 season camper.
      We head to Newfoundland for 3 weeks in June hope to see some icebergs !

    Escapes are nice. I have to mention, the wet bath in the Casita is much more comfortable. And still, best value for your money (imo). I do very much like how Escape has the option of a 4 season camper. The Escape 5.0 is my favorite.

    • @DoriMena
      @DoriMena  Před rokem

      Yea. The Casita bathroom is definitely roomier than the one in the 17B. It’s nice that it has one though. Our favorite is the Escape 5.0 TA too!

    The Escape 17 is what initially brought me to the fiberglass trailer world. I wanted this trailer so much!
    Then someone mentioned to us that an E17 is essentially the same as a Trillium 5500 from the 80s.
    The Escape trailers really are direct descendants of the 70s-80s Trilliums. Construction of the Escape is largely based on them.
    Trillium made 4 models, the largest one being the 5500, at 5.5 meters long (hence the name), or 18ft, just between the E17 and E19. The 5500 is a very rare trailer, apparently only about 65 have been made in 1980-1981 before Trillium ceased operations.
    We were able to find a decent 1981 T5500 at a fair price. Took us 2 years of our spare time to repair, restore and modernize it. It is very similar the the Escape 17B, just slightly larger, with similar equipment and weight (permanent rear double bed, hot water heater, wet bath, etc).
    Tows nicely behind our Toyota Highlander.
    Oh and our dog found his perfect spot under the table! ;-)

    Excellent video tour. Thank you for carefully explaining all the details of the trailer including the tow vehicle and how you use it. My wife and I are looking for a light, couples, weekend travel trailer, and this seems perfect. And about half the price of an Airstream 16rb.

    We (2 adults) have a 2017 17B, have used it for up to a month at a time plus lots of shorter trips almost yearround. We've found for boondocking the solar panel & inverter are indispensible. We could easily do without the wet bath. Would prefer the 19'.

    • @DoriMena
      @DoriMena  Před rokem +2

      They have indeed. Have you considered purchasing pre-owned? If you get on the Escape forum, you can get notifications when someone adds a listing to the classifieds. Otherwise you can watch for a floor model to go on sale from the factory.

    • @jmpattillo
      @jmpattillo Před rokem +1

      @@DoriMena I won’t be ready to buy for a few years, but I still lurk and dream. Just a bit depressing to see them get further and further away. Yes, I’d buy a pre-owned one when the time comes. Doing a self build like you guys did is an attractive option, but I worry about resale value and campground access with that option (I’m thinking a cargo trailer conversion, I’m sure you two would have no problem selling your van if you wanted to).

  • @toronado455
    @toronado455 Před rokem +1

    That's nice. I'm not sure how I feel about trailer towing in general. The main advantage I suppose is you could detach the tow vehicle and drive it separately. But I'm not sure that makes up for the disadvantages. I prefer the Ford Transit cargo van because it's manufactured by a major auto company, as opposed to a small trailer company. And also because you start out with a clean sheet, and design to your own needs and specifications. I was not particularly impressed with the quality of building materials used to furnish the interior of the Escape trailer. But I did like the gentleman who owns it in the video!

    • @DoriMena
      @DoriMena  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching. Escapes have a cult following and with good reason. We can attest to the quality of the manufacturing. Totally different style of travel from van travel though.
