I bought a new Pellix in Jan 1966. It is amazing in the absolute control of focus and metering it gives. I had to have it serviced 2x b/c of shutter bounce. That happens when the foam shutter brake deteriorates over time. When it happens you won't notice until you get your prints back and 1/2 of each frame are blacked out. This is a very good camera, capable of precision in sharpness and composition.
This is what i mean by "cleaning your camera", i've seen a lot of videos on how to clean a camera but they just clean the outside and that's something that i'm not looking for cuz i don't need a video just for wiping the outside, i'm looking for videos because i need to know how to disassemble my camera cuz i want to clean up those sticky gears and other mechanism in there.

Dang. I never knew that film cameras were this complicated. Inside mechanism almost looks like the inside of mechanical watches.
Especially shutters, many watch brands such as seiko and citizen made shutter mechanisms.

Great job. To remove this light seals, trick is using „label remover“ this stuff for paper or paperlike labels on cucumber glasses to use it for other stuff. Take it on and wait a little .. seals become a bit like bubble gum.

I have a question about the light seals.
I have foam in different thicknesses for the normal light seals. What would you suggest I use for the mirror dampener?
Christ you're a machine dude. I opened the cover, looked in and promptly lost patience right there and then. As soon as one thing moved and all the other s*%t moved with it my ADHD went totally native and split into equal numbers of personalities per each cog and spring doing it's own s*%t. Awesome vid as per all the others. Really liked your road trip/holiday one most recently (Dec 23 Jan 24). You've got a great mix you just need to plug away at it cause its bound to get more notice with this kind of content and character dude.

I'm just at the bit where you're removing the leatherette from the body, best move IMO is to soak the edges in isopropyl and it'll come off a lot easier than that. Nice video so far though mate!
Only comment I'd make is with slow speed gear train, don't oil the gears, just clean them and oil very lightly where the stems go into the housing.

Right now I have 2mm light seal foam which works for basically everything but I find to be a little bit stiff in certain areas. Over time it compresses with use, but if you can get 1.5mm I'd probably go with that instead. Thanks for watching.

i have an ftb ql but its shutter on slower speeds is too fast by about a factor of 2. been wanting to repair it for years but thats far beyond my skillset
Thank you, I appreciate the comment. It wasn't necessary in the case of this repair, but there's a little screw in the timing mechanism under the mirror box that allows you to tweak your speeds. It takes some trial and error but usually you can get all your speeds within a 20% tolerance. These older Canon SLRs are great cameras to test the waters on camera repair if you're willing to risk breaking something. Canon lenses on the other hand, are a different story. Thanks for watching.
In the factory would these be assembled by a different worker doing one part then pass on to another for a different subassembly?

I've got an FTb sitting around that has issues with shutter speeds. If I tore it town to this level and cleaned up the timing gears, would I need to remove the top and prism as well?

Hi, thanks for the video! I have a question: is it possible to substitute the pentaprism on my Canon Ftb QL with pentaprism from AT1? Are they the same size? Thanks
My FT has a bad prism: corrosion. My second FT looks to be going the same route but is good enough. Looks like their quality is a little lacking at least for the FT. I hope my FTb fairs better as it seems fine.
For what it's worth, this is a problem I've observed on cameras of almost every manufacturer. Olympus, Minolta, Canon, Pentax, you name it. As I'm sure you're aware at this point it's usually a result of the adhesive padding around the prism eating into the reflective coating. I haven't yet figured out exactly why it happens on some cameras and not others of the same or similar age. My best guess is that it has to do with environmental factors such as temperature and humidity over extended periods of time.
@@patricknicholsdesign It would not surprise me in the least but the FT seems to have a bad case of it. My second FT shows light signs of it. Looking on Ebay, any of them that show photos through the view finder has a center dark line. Not to worry, I have plenty of dead ME Supers. Lol...
Not sure about the FTb as my copy is perfect! They may have made improvements to the coatings and the paint they use for the FTb Lenses for these cameras are rock solid.

I've never actually been hired to work on anyone else's cameras before. This past year I was running a small shop selling used and refurbished analog photography gear, but sales basically flatlined in June. It's tricky to ship internationally due to the costs, customs, and amount of time it takes to send/receive. Thanks for watching.
@@patricknicholsdesign yeah, thanks for answering, anyway. Im having problems with my Canon FT. I disassembled it, got into the timing gears but my lack of experience is not helping. It seems out of time and even after alcohol cleaning and relub as you did. Now I need the light seals ……. Wish me luck , lol

Unfortunately I don't know of any since I do all my own repairs/service. If you have a local camera shop they may know someone or be able to point you in the right direction.
