- We've been talking about a wide angle prime for a while, and although Nikon don't (yet) have one on the roadmap, here's Voigtlander's latest offering - the 15mm f/4.5 Super Wide Heliar lens for the Nikon Z mount.
We took it into town to photograph all those weird and wonderful angles and some tall buildings, as well as your favourite - brick walls!

I have an older Voigtlander 12mm f5.6, and I love it. I'm really glad that they're bringing a superwide they originally made for Leica mount. They're all slower lenses, but they're definitely special lenses that have really minimal distortion. If someone wants something wider, Nikon has a 14mm f2.8 D lens which is also manual focus on the Z bodies. This 15mm f4.5 also has three ED elements which Cosina calls "extraordinary partial dispersion" or "abnormal partial dispersion" I wonder if they will bring their 10mm that they also make over to Z mount

I’ve been looking enviously at the Canon RF 16mm f2.8 STM which sells for an amazing $300 USD. It’s also a very compact lens as well. Konstantin isn’t kidding about the aggressive security guards in London. I had one shoo me away when I knelt down to take a photo at the grounds in front of an office building near Paddington and I wasn’t even taking a photo of the building. I also noticed a number of “no photography” signs at a number of locations as well.
Great video. Please consider doing a (series of) video explaining Voigtlander lens terminologies, such as Skopar, Heliar, Lanthar, Ultron, etc., particularly what are the practical implications of these lens designs. All the articles online are too technical and give no useful context/comparison to other lens designs. Thx.

PLEASE review the Voigtlander 50mm f/1 lens for Z mount next! I love Voigtlander lenses. I just picked up the 65mm macro.

Why should Nikon do a 15mm f4.5 when they have a 16-50mm wider aperture kit lens ?
Ahahaaa, that’s a DX kit lens. It will not cover full-frame and it’s likely not as sharp.
@@marike1100 True Markus. It wouldn't be as sharp but at 16mm it is a more versatile lens. On the other hand, an f4.5 15mm full frame lens is not worthy of elaborate fanfare. I have an iphone 14 pro that could take excellent pictures in normal and poor light conditions at a wider angle. I agree that the optics of a full frame 15mm prime would be better in good light conditions, but can the human eye really discern that?
@@marike1100 By the way Markus, I have a Zfc and Z7ii and I use my DX lenses on my Z7 ii and they produce great results. Nikon has been smart in allowing this interoperability, even though it does reduce the resolution a bit, but the quality is better than you would think.
Thank you for putting this video out. I think something is wrong with the audio in this video though. The audio makes your voices sound unnatural and quite nasal.

4.5 hurts for that price. If it was a 2.8 I’d be interested.
Was in the same boat. Then I saw the colors, character and sunstars and bought it straight away. Amazing little lens.

Looks like an interesting lens - f4.5 is a little slow for sneaky street photography... 🦘

Size, 58mm front filter, sunstars, contrast, weight, build quality. F8 and dont be late.
