I guess I'm always defensive of the term "Chicano" b/c I feel it is just another term that attempts to distinguish us from our Mexican/Latino roots. When I hear that term - I feel like it is an insult to our parents and grandparents - proud Mexicanos from the terre who labored through intense racism and mistreatment by landowners and corporations to provide us, their children, a better life. So I prefer to be closer to them roots than those roots that distance us from our people.
