A knife that does what a Bowie is supposed to do historically. Chop like a hatchet, stab like a dagger and cut like a kitchen knife.
Reverse tanto tip for strength and penetration

I love mine so much i went ahead and also bought the Nomad Camp12! A beast, yet superbly balanced regardless of the extra weight.
I sharpened the swedge on both knives razor sharp reducing the "hump" making them even more "stabby".
Both knives i brought to a super sharp razor edge reprofiled to 17deg.
Incredible knives both. I really like the full finger choil in the smaller camp knife (10in) which the camp12 doesn't have. However, that translates to even more (12in) cutting edge.
Very happy with both my purchases.
Btw, i attached a teklok to the Nomad camp, and the larger camp12 comes with a sling attached similar to yours straight from the factory.
I have not had an opportunity to try the Camp 12 yet. I also want to try the Nomad Field knife. Thanks for commenting
I grew up with big knives and machetes. It is interesting to see these videos about bushcrafting with all those, in my perception, small knives. Most slicing tasks done with a small knive I would do with a chopping motion and with a big knife. It is like a carpenter used to handle a hammer all day long and he is trained to be very precise and delicate with it. I still carry a small knife, most of the time a victorinox with at least scissors, but that will be used less than 10%. Everybody should do what he feels good with. Thanks for those videos, I am learning a lot from them.

G'day Mark, certainly one of the better "big fella" designs I've seen in recent years. You can see the thought and yep a bit of "kook" influence came to mind immediately, and so pleased to see the "clip" is not overdone. Ultimately, I love that the designer took all those desirable aspects from history and put them all in a single unit !!!!!!.
This is something I would carry in the same way as a BK-9, Skrama, parang or other machete, i.e. it can do it all. I'm still gonna take a smaller bloke and a saw though, since you need at least 2 options for every task IMO and of course some are far better than others in the first instance.
Cant say I'm keen on that lanyard set up, since you've only one "proper" point of retention, the elasticity and potential for movement of the human palm is insufficient to rely on I reckon; ...... if that makes sense.
Anyway, appreciate the detailed and honest review mate, it's too good to simply throw under the seat of your vehicle IMO ......... well, ......... unless you have two of 'em ; ) Cheers Duke.

Amazing video me personally I run my thumb on that ramp where you had your palm gives me more control when making fire sticks and cutting just my preference also I will put the tip of my knife into my curls and use my rod for more control I LOVE my Nomad (sabertooth)

I have taken a big choppy knife out for a few Drifts mostly because I found I was taking a hatchet and not actually using it very often whereas a big chopper I can use as a machete while navigating the woods, site prep and wood processing. Don't get me wrong I think the world of my hatchet but as a beginner I like to assess what I carry and prioritize things that get used more often. Great video Mark, thank you!

I bought a Nomad and after reading the specs on the Blade Grind - can you provide details on how to sharpen a blade like this?? Having only a whetstone, would I need to buy different gear to keep it sharp?
I bought the smaller Nomad and use it in the kitchen too!

Big knife like this can be a challenge to keep sharp. The easiest is with a 1"x30" belt sander. You can get some very fine belts for it. A field expedient would be to sharpen it like an axe with a small diamond stone. Super fine wet/dry sand paper taped down to a flat surface will work as well. Mostly, I use a ceramic honing rod to maintain the edge and keep it from getting dull, Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting

Way too overkill for my tastes. It also could definitely not replace a smaller 4" knife for fire making tasks, fine carving, etc. It also won't perform as well as a GFB small forest axe or even a wildlife hatchet (which is lighter and more versatile). I would rather take a terava skrama, which is lighter, and can be used as a chopper and as a fine detail close in knife.
Also I am not sure James Bowie would accept that knife, since nomad design is far from ideal for fighting with (which as far as we know is what James mostly used his knife for). It worth noting that we also have no idea what Bowie's knife actually looked like from the sandbar fight.

Morning Mark. So this review is unacceptable. Unless you go out on a trail, get attacked by, fight and kill an Indian with it, you’ll never convince me it’s a true Bowie knife. 😀
Personally I hate those finger choils that are on the blade. For me, a good handle will let me get plenty close enough, but I know many people do like them.
Im not a big fan of these big knives either, but again I do see the point for someone who wants to skip the axe and knife and just use one, but how do you think it compares, as for general usability to the big Finish knife?
