It’s weird because there’s a handful of movies that capture New York in the summer...oddly enough this and Do the Right Thing both fall in that category. Maybe Rear Window also.
This is a GREAT movie. I've seen it about 4 times & want to see it more. This is Tim Heidecker (with his pard' Eric Wareheim in a smaller part as well as the guy who calls himself "Neil Hamburger" (I keep forgetting his real name)) before he & Eric started doing their comedy series, etc. Though they both have a keen sense of comedic timing, etc. This film, from 2012, I believe, IMO, though it can be a little dark & a bit strange at times, is still a wonderful & refreshing movie to see, compared to the typical formulaic bullshit that is so prevalent. Definitely an independent cult classic! And to think, I originally saw it on Netflix a few years ago when it was on there for a while; unfortunately, it's not up there anymore.
Je M'EnFous i agree, i've seen it a couple times and it's the only movie that i never seem to get tired of seeing. Tim heidecker is really hypnotic in this role.
This movie is dope. The implied commentary about not taking anything seriously and like irony culture was pretty spot on and sort of ahead of it's time. Like from i guess the mid 2000's till around 2012 2013...That kind of behavior was like shit people associated with Hipsters (i realize that's a stupid term but that's whats it was called). In this movie they do good job of portraying like how vacant that sort of humor or culture is. Sadly what was once considered like some metropolitan elite scene (hipster) became what is now like just a part of mainstream American culture. Everyone is ironic everyone sarcastic and detached. Every is as vacant as Tim's character in the movie.
Saw it in theaters in 2012 when it came out, Im a huge Tim and Eric fan as well as all comedy. This is a very GOOD movie. I haven't seen it in a while but it's dark and also absurdist, and anti-humor. Def worth a rewatch.
I don't normally say this but I honestly don't understand. That's not to say I didn't like it but not all of their stuff has and I've no idea who the director is. Thanks to not being a hipster.
The movie or the clip? Having seen the movie I think it's kinda the point --> tl;dr - Tim Heidecker loves playing dudes who are pieces of shit, and made this movie as a fuck you to people who are like the characters in it, which make up a portion of the people who would see this movie. Here's the more detailed breakdown if you want it! Tim's character and his crew are approaching a midlife crisis; they are aging NYC trust fund kids who, in their upper 30s & early 40s, are in denial of the compounded realities of their lifestyle. This clique have the financial cushion, and therefore the time, to devote their lives to entertaining themselves, often at the expense of others. While once fun, their activities are no longer fulfilling, and they make up for that by going for edgy jokes and trying to out-hype each other. Decades of doing this has led them to become emotionally distant people: united by a sense of superiority to their out-groups, but confined to the domain of dark, ironic humor and inside jokes as their only means of expression. What I'm thinking is Tim Heidecker probably knows a lot of people like this in real life. Even though his shows (mostly on Adult Swim) are already pretty weird, he set out to make a movie that's legitimately hard to watch; the shots all feel longer than they need to be, and all the bits him and his friends do are flat and vapid. These IRL people who he perhaps knew would be the same types to see it upon release, then to brag to everyone they know about how they were the first to see this movie, and that they knew Tim in college or whatnot.
5 bags of popcorn.

this is my favorite film. The characters are so aimless. They're like how I feel. the film completely chills me out.
I think if you are identifying with say the character Swanson in this movie, you need to fix that.
This is how hipsters in Williamsburg flirt

It's a wonderful movie, but Tim and Eric I wanna say came out five to six years before this movie did

as an aging hipster in abject poverty, this is aspirational. I would love to have this level of badinage with women.
