Whilst we do see girls being disproportionately targeted in sexual abuse and exploitation, it can still happen to boys and men too.
It doesn't always have to be an adult targeting a child, we do see reports of children aged 10-17 targeting other children of a similar age.
We will always encourage people to speak out when they are ready, and for those who suspect abuse and exploitation is taking place, we urge you to report any suspicion or concerns to us via 101 or 999 in an emergency, quoting Op Makesafe.
I understand that for young people who suspect their friends are being exploited, it is sometimes scary to take that first step and report directly to the police. If you do have any concerns about your friends, or someone you know, please report to a trusted adult who can help support and guide you.
