What your saying is absolutely true, whenever I just tried sooo hard to succeed that is what was stopping me in the first place, I would find myself exhausted and mentally weighed down, and I started questioning if its worth pursuing basketball at the College level, I am currently getting close to decision time and I am improving when it comes to the game itself but i don't know what to do if that scholarship doesn't come, I am trying to avoid student debt at all costs, and I've been thinking maybe I should walk on, take a year and work even harder and try again? I'm not sure if anyone has advice I am open, please share!

Funny this video came up in my recommended list. I swore I quit competitive basketball 4 years ago because I was and still am trash. I make it a habit to avoid playing 1v1 or against people in general. I shoot around by myself and have been doing that since 2019. Just 2 weeks ago, I was shooting around in a gym and was challenged on a 1v1. I told him I was trash and he replied he was too. I reluctantly played him. I was so loosy goosy and gave it 40% effort. He matched my energy and he went accordingly. We were playing up to 5 in ones only (no 2s or 3s). I ended up beating him 5-4. The important thing is I didn't care whether I won or lost. The detachment led to my contentment.
Now I am back on a deserted basketball court goofing around by myself doing goofy shots because it's what makes me happy. Using basketball body movements for fun.
I love the comparison of the unconditional love of a mother to a child and the attachment of a jealous lover. The latter is exactly how I feel about basketball. I played for the reasons that were for vanity and material reasons. I am trying to become the former. I will continue to shoot hoops alone but be detached to the outcome of the training.

All of these ideologies that have been mentioned on this channel directly relates to everything else in life. Coach Taylor obviously is talking about basketball but you can literally apply this to a job, a relationship and just overall life. Not only will these thinkings improve your way of playing ball, but you way of living as a human being as well. Thank you coach for teaching what you have learned through the years!

I also had knee surgery 5months ago, and 4 months after it I went 2 times out to shoot a bit (without jumping of course), and my shot got only slightly worse maybe, or it even stayed the same. I am not shooting since these 2 times I went out, because I want to allow my knee to get healthy and give it a lot of time to recover, and I basically just lift weights and do my leg exercises. I am feeling free right now, and I am regaining the love for the game itself (because of you, and you helped me regain that 200%) and can't wait to play again and have fun. I can't wait to face the challenges that are in the team. To face better opponents and grow.

I used to be like that, id overwork before tryouts and choke because i was trying to be someone i wasn't, and I realized I was more of like a lebron / shannon sharpe / james harden than kobe or someone else with a super known work ethic. Obviously i have a great work ethic, but I'm on the court because I enjoy it & I "lock in" by interacting with the sport in a carefree & "fun" way. Kinda like russell westbrook back in OKC when he was dancing with the bench and dropping 60/20/20 every night. I think about the "off the henny" meme when certain players explode in NBA games. That's how i'm trying to be

You need to answer that yourself (and if you're asking this question, you're either way too serious, or just don't love the game as much).
And if you don't love the game, don't torture yourself trying to chase basketball goals, and go after something you actually love doing. It's going to be frustrating, because you are going to fail (not as in you specifically, but everyone is going to fail somewhere on the journey)

I dont know if I would feel right taking this big of a break from the game after training myself to stick to it. It's would kinda feel like I wasnt pushing myself hard enough if I took this kind of a break. Do I take these breaks 2 days a week, or for 2 weeks?

    • @DeepGameBasketball

Are you talking about the Two Week break? If so, it depends, but generally yes: if those things are done specifically to improve basketball performance and for no other reason (such as enjoyment), then let them go for the full two weeks. You can start doing some of those things, but really optimize them for enjoyment/feeling good rather than in order to improve yourself. One of the main points of the Two Week break is to relax your discipline muscle, so continuing to do things for basketball begets some of that - Simon, Team DeepGame

Still, when im just going for the fun i take and make more shots plus i wanna stay longer in court, the only thing is that as they are non schedual shots i fear that is not gonna transalte to the game, because how you practice is how you play.
