- What would the ultimate Linux distro look like if we could take the best parts of all the distros that exist and shove them into one big package?

Ah that reminds me of the problem which goes by
"we got 15 distros none of them are perfect, lets make a perfect distro"
Hours of brain sweat later
"now we got 16 distros"
I personally think there can't be imperfect distro, it's either meant for you or it isn't.
I distro hop many times. After a few you know what you want. Still you search to find one that fit most of your category needs. I found mind and just tweak it to the fittings for your needs. And from there you're good to go. I finally stopped on MX and haven't wonder any place else.
"Stability is not a priority" says the founder of the ultimate Linux distro! You guys are straight up amusing, 😂
😂
Lol. Thanks for.the super chat.
Define Stability. Most of us think of nuke-proof uncrashyness - which is wrong.
What the Debian guys originally meant was to say everything stays as it is. No updates, no new kernels. Install and never touch again. Use for headless servers, firmware and such stuff. Result is stable in both meanings. But soooo fuxn boring, no?
If I had a server to run, ya, gimme Deb.
For my sexy daily runner I take Manjaro/EndeavourOS every time.
I guess you could call me crazy. I game on Proxmox 8 with pretty good results and do all my other development work on a Void Linux VM on the Proxmox 8 host. I have a Kali VM on an internal network of vulnerable VM's for honing my cyber skills. I mean it all works but those damn Nvidia driver updates kill everything so I have my version pinned, but Nvidia on Linux on Optimus is only for masochists, BEWARE!!. Now to figure out how to get Wayland working. F-ING WAYLAND!!! Maybe KDE 6 will help?!?
Not only is this video informative and interesting, but I love the rapport
its a good opinion piece to see what the 2 like out of their distro(s)
Thanks for using my idea lol.
Well, not really...but it feels that way.
This was very fun to listen to. I am a Sys Admin in my day job but I was doing my hobby of woodworking while I listen to this. Made the time fly. Great episode
Arch, Debian, Fedora are the Trinity or the three great horses.
Or PKGBUILD (with pacman), deb (with apt) and rpm (with DNF)
If I couldn't think of any other reason to use BTRFS, the speed with which Timeshift does snapshots on it is awesome.
I do love the Liquorix kernel. It works on every crappy laptop I've got, and makes them all run so much better.
I listen to the podcast version instead, but I'm just opening youtube now to come tell Tyler that flakes is just how you do lock files in Nix.
3:06 I am currently converting a comic book collection over to .avif files. The compression ratio is pretty insane with near identical quality.
You guys need to intervierw Jorge Castro from the Bluefin OS / uBlue project ! Also a Michigan native ( I think Spartan?! )
More of this. This is some really good shit, guys.
I like such thought experiments.
I like how your PFP from a distance looks like a butt in a thong, then you look closer and find out it's a cat, yet at a glance either way you can still ponder whether or not you're looking at an asshole
hiya could you do a quick update on the pinephone as with kde plasma 6 that just released recently the kde plasma mobile shows to be alot better then before
Slackware with a faster installer and optional dependency resolution would be my go-to distro for this.
Only reason I don't use slackware on my main rig is cause it seems to lack support for one of my devices. Or I'm just not pro enough, idk.
Yeah, yeah, yeah I KNOW ABOUT VOID, but I don't like runit as much.
I don't care which editor people use, as long as it's the right one - Vim. 😂
Also, I have a more sinister idea. If people try to install Neovim, it should switch them over to Emacs instead 😂
I'm gonna mention I use nano on my Linux Mint install just for Matt
There is not such thing as a perfect distro .
We all have or own way of doing things.
That' s why Linux is perfect.
We all can install our own perfect distro, or create one.
and the best thing is that it is all Linux.....
But fun to watch trying to come up with one distro that rules them all.
I would try this distro just to see if it would work.
This perfect distribution sounds like MocaccinoOS to me. Based on gentoo and uses its own package manager called luet.
do you have a life?💀💀you wait for hours to install a package?
@@xenizgaming3778 it’s based on gentoo. I didn’t say you would need to compile stuff on Moccaccino OS
Mocaccino OS is gentoo based and it does not require you compile anything.
Tyler: "How come I can't use flakes from OpenSUSE?"
Huh, the Home Manager readme seems to say 'Home Manager provides both the channel-based setup and the flake-based one'.
Kernel 6.7.X is full of issues, it completely broke suspend on my Intel ThinkPad.
Will there be a AMD Graphics card and AMD CPU Linux compatible like the NVIDIA or Intel in the future.
apparently they're baked into the kernel just like intel's are, though you can also download updated ones either from AMD themself or your distro's repository as they're open source. however AMD also provides proprietary enterprise/workstation/"pro" drivers & software for ubuntu, red hat and suse, if you need whatever functionality they provide (or use a "pro" card)
@@glebglubThanks for the Info
ZSH, Tyler you are too easy sometimes.
Imagine 1500's peasants hearing this talk, how many words they would get?
Garuda…since the fall of xerolinux
Garuda = bloat for bloat's sake.
@@schizofren_iaAnd suckaz gonna suck. :/
To install the stuffz I need takes me minutes, to remove all the bloat will take me hours, maybe days.
Qtile ... yes!! 🤓
Isn't this what blendOS is trying to do? Plus android apps.
Can someone tell me what Tyler's nuggie is? I just couldn't understand ..

@@_xyz123_ thanks!

Hmmm...the "perfect distro" doesn't exist. "The perfect distro" is up to the individual...their preferences, their tastes, and their preferred software. Therefore, there is no perfect distro unless the individual builds their own system...only then, is it perfect...and even then...it's not perfect.
Good video.
Ya, I think it would be good if there was 1 Linux Standard distro instead of all these little splintered distros. Then have like Distro Desktop Theme option and also different size configurations (tiny (embedded), dekstop and server)). Would be interesting how large Linux is when you united, I sometimes wished the good old AmigaOS flourished more.
That’s what the Linux Standard Base is.
5th!
We already have it, Debian.
Use Gentoo
Manjaro! Has all the doings to be the bestest Linux evarrr! Imagine Manjaro being managed by a better, nicer, non-greedy team. Heaven!
