The tracking force with these types of players is around the 5 gram mark which is nothing that vinyl can't handle Sara, that pressure from a stylus is still well within record playing specs. It's true. They won't ruin your records. It will sound lousy in comparison to almost any other speaker it is compared to. It will struggle to play new records accurately (skipping, pitch fluctuation etc). I do not recommend. If you must buy one of these units, buy it second hand for $20 just to see if you might want to get into the hobby.

    I think people are forgetting that part of the charm with record players is the low quality speakers. There is a magic to vinyl that digital can't match. Those of us old enough remember our parents didn't have high end 1960's-1970's record players or speakers.

    Actually, 78's came in 3 sizes, because I owned several in each size as a child. Of course, 10" was the ubiquitous format. But they also came in 8" (second most popular size) and 7". However, the 7" size did not last long, since 45's were also 7" in size. That is also why 45's were given a larger center hole, so the two record types would not be confused with each other.

I got one as a gift a while back, used it once based on directions from the person who gave it to me, but we didn't talk much about it, and then the cord for it disappeared so it's been sitting on a shelf and then in a cabinet for a long time - several months to a year, idk. I pulled it out just today though so i could search online to get a replacement cord. Most importantly, i never understood how the bluetooth part worked - not that it matters with the cord missing - but now i know that i need to get these other cords at some point to use the other features.

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  Před 5 lety +17

      GREAT QUESTION! They believe that the tracking force (weight of needle on record) is too high and that it will scratch / damage the records. Truth is -The weight is higher than high end record players and will WEAR them faster but will not damage them. Thank you for watching and commenting!

    • @CloudTheTank
      @CloudTheTank Před 5 lety +9

      What they mean by destroying the record is not just the weight but the needle type. With now a day's cheaper turntables is that they have 3 speeds. 33 and 45 records play with .02 radius tip needles which are small, 78 records play with .07 radius needles which are big. Someone was thinking it's a great idea to use a bigger needle to play all 3 speed records which is wrong due to 33 and 45 are micro groove and 78s are large groove. Big difference.

    • @Systemsquirrel
      @Systemsquirrel Před 4 lety +2

    Initially went with the internal speakers, then hooked them up to a halfway decent sound system for inside and outdoors at the pub.
    They do the job.
    I also have one set up at the house for quick examinations of 78s that I had bought at yard sales...for the price, I can afford to wear the needle with dirty records as I determine whether to keep a particular record or not.

      Record-ology So, the actual cartridge is the black box on the near end of the tonearm. That houses the piezoelectric transducer, the ceramic component. The stylus is on the red piece. The hardest part is getting enough space between the two. Once that is accomplished, it’s very easy.

      If you are used to good stereo sound from the past component systems and good speakers, you really need to purchase better speakers for this unit. There is literally no base and very high pitch sounds. Don’t let the sound keep you from buying this though. Speakers are cheap

    I got a victrola record player for Christmas 🎄 last year plus the fact I’m in a small apartment anyway I’m ok with it I don’t have that much room anyway I can only find the 33 vinyl records albums and it has blue tooth 🦷 so I can even play from my iPhone 📱 Pandora radio 📻

    Are there different types of needles to fill in the different grooves in the older records and if so can you change the with that needle to play the 78 speed? Will it mess up the older records or distort them especially going towards the middle of the record? 🤔

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  Před 5 lety +1

      Great questions coming in lately! The 78 record does indeed have a larger groove (3 mil) vs a standard 1 mil / microgroove stylus found on most 33 and 45 speed vinyl today. You can buy a 3 mil stylus without needing to replace the entire cartridge. This is the ideal situation to get the most sound out of your 78's. Playing a 78 with a regular 1 mil stylus wont hurt anything but the sound will be inferior because the needle is too small in the wider groove and cant read all the details of the groove walls. You would NOT want to use a 3 mil stylus on a microgroove record. Thank you for watching and commenting!

    I got one for Christmas and I’m having a bit of a struggle to say the least. I have 4 new records to start and none of them have a scratch in sight, but somehow they keep skipping. My dad collected records for years and tested one of his and his skipped as well. He thinks it could be the record player itself but I’m so confused as to how, the needle is perfectly in tact. I see a few other people having this problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this? If anyone has found a solution. I don’t wanna give up just yet I was super excited to get a record player I have wanted one for a long time.

    My son got a new one of these for Christmas, and two new records to go with it. Both albums get "stuck " and repeat, but one album does it REALLY bad. These are all brand new, so built up dust and debris isn't a factor, I would think.

    Hi! I’m a newbie when it comes to record plays and vinyl records. I just got a Victrola suitcase record player for Christmas I used it for a couple of days and then stopped while I was waiting for my new vinyls to come in, now every vinyl that I play skips even thought they are brand new. Any reasons for this? Is it the vinyls problem or the record player’s problem?

    Thanks for the video -- very helpful. I just bought one for my teenager, and it is regularly skipping. It's in a stable location, and will skip even if no one is walking or causing vibrations. I *think* the balance on the tone arm needs to be adjusted (if you apply a little pressure to the front end of the counterweight, the skipping ceases) . Do you know if there is a way to do that on these players?

    thing is with the bluetooth feature is that the audio will be coming out of the player speakers instead of the what ever speaker you connected too.

    By the way you can get a replacement cartridge and stylus that provides a better sound quality and ALSO makes playing 78 records a lot better. Because the grove of 78 records are a bit wider / bigger so the smaller LP stylus (since vinyl records use micro grooves) won't dig into the 78 groove and pick up too much noise instead of audio. VWestlife here on youtube did a video about how to replace the stylus and the stylus cartridge and what type to use for that. Thankfully it's very inexpensive too.

    Does this TT have other spring tracking "taps" you move one end of the spring to so you could adjust tracking?Many older spring counterweighted TT's I have used had that.Also you can get an audio out from the headphone jack-just use an audio cable with stereo phone plug on one end to two RCA phono plugs on the other ends.Its a form of "Y" cable.This could be helpful if you should ever need to feed another system.Love those field jobs!
