  • Adam Garrett of Wokingham, was seen necking pints and shots in a bar before he stumbled out drunk and went on to crash his van into three pedestrians. The 26-year-old was four times over the limit when he got into his white Ford transit van and crashed into Chris Redfern, 52, his wife, Cristina Di Carlo, 54, and Jeremy Rowson, 63, outside the French Horn restaurant on the B478 at around 11pm on May 5 last year. #Drink #Driving #vanlife

Though I agree with you in principle, in practice the country would have to pay to build more prisons and to staff them. I think large fines, though that is a tempting thought, would be unlikely to either defray the costs to any great extent, or not to have the also negative effect of pushing offenders' dependants ( including partners and innocent and, in some cases, very young offspring) into penury. This seems a very difficult, possibly insoluble problem; more severe laws and better enforcement - penalties for publicans / restauranters would also provoke an outcry. I'm not sure that it's fair to blame judges, though it's easy to regard them as culpable - they have to weigh up the ramifications and results of their judgements. The answers just aren't as easy as some are tempted to think. Don't get me wrong; I'm as disgusted by this footage as anybody - but it's not as simple as some think it is.

Bar staff, bar managers and licensees have a responsibility too. The law says, 'You commit an offence as an establishment or as a staff member if you serve alcohol to a person who is drunk'. Not only did they serve alcohol, they drank with him. This is no doubt not the first time he's done it. He, as well as other repeat offenders or extremely drunk drivers, should never ever be allowed to have a licence again. Establishments should receive heavy fines if they continue serving or do not call the police if they think someone is going to drive. Horrible! My mom lost her brother who as a pedestrian on a pedestrian crossing, was also hit by drunk car driver. He died on the scene. My grandfather died a year later of grief by a broken heart syndrome. And this is only one thing my family had to cope with.
And we are not alone, there are many families out there with a same trauma.
These three people survived but have to deal the rest of their lives with the mentally and physically consequences because of the actions from this man.
He should be in prison for a very long time. At least 10 years maybe longer and no parole in the first 10 years. He should never get his driver's licences back and he should attended therapy after detention.
I hate these people who committed crimes like these so much. Its disgusting 🤢

Glad I was not the presiding judge! 4 years lets put it this way his sentence would have reflected the offence/s. He wouldn't have seen the light of day for a very long time!

More people do this in the U.k. Than you'd imagine, they park a few hundred yards away then drive off after a skin full, it happens all over the country and nothing gets done about it.

This reminds me of an incident Some years ago I went for work to a small town on the West Coast of Scotland, during the evening, I decided to have a look around Town and called in to a local paper shop, the headline by the local paper read, man caught drink driving, seven times over the legal limit, how on earth was he still conscious never mind able to drive, crazy 😮
