  • I'm fly fishing a stream in Wyoming when I see a moose standing on the far bank. It stood there looking at me for a minute before crossing the stream and walking towards me forcing me to take cover! But this stream is home to some amazing cutthroat, rainbows, browns and cuttbows...so I couldn't leave! I drove from Idaho to Wyoming the day before it was a crazy day...I nearly hit a black bear, my truck coded leaving me stranded in Idaho Falls for a night...that video, part 34 here: • 6 Weeks Road Tripping ... I started with a double nymph rig but after a fish eats my yarn indicator switched to a dry and later back to the hopper/dropper rig I've had so much success with (see video 27 below for the exact rig.) Glad you didn't hang out with the moose. They can be more cranky than bears. Living in Colorado, I've had plenty of encounters with them--some too close for comfort. I also fish the Yellowstone area, where I've had some close calls with buffalo, black bear, and even a grizzly. I was once chased by an elk at Norris Junction while tourists were snapping pictures. A buck chased me up a hill by the Gardner River in YNP, apparently thinking that I was too close to his harem. None of those incidents happened off the beaten path. I was never inside the recommended safe distance of those animals.

    • @LooknFishy
      @LooknFishy  Před 2 lety +2

      Polarized lenses area a must. There are a ton of videos on the topic so I've never done one myself but anytime I'm asked I recommend them w/o hesitation. I prefer an amber lens helps pull out contrast in the bottom, or other structure. But also pulls out red in trout, gold in browns, carp and redfish just simply glow. Honestly, I would turn around and walk miles to get my glasses if I forgot them...but they are the last thing I look at before I hike in!

    Question, how bad are the tick’s in that area? Beautiful stream with nice fish brother. Spent some time in Rock Springs about 1980 and made a trip up to PineDale area. I was fishing over a bank when I heard my 7 month pregnant wife hollering at me, I ran up the bank and standing about 10 feet away was a huge cow moose. I immediately looked for a calf and didn’t see one and she was just checking her out. That’s one big animal. Backed up to the rig and waited her out so I could get my gear. Funny story and true. It’s good to be able to watch some flyfishing, here in the UK the season is closed for winter. You have some beautiful water to fish in! Does one permit allow you to fish in all the National Forrest’s?

    • @GeorgeSemel
      @GeorgeSemel Před 2 lety +1

      All you need is to buy a State Fishing License. In some states like where I live, a trout and salmon stamp. He no doubts bought non-resident fishing and trout stamps if needed for NM, CO, ID, and WY. I live in CT, and I buy a resident fishing license and trout stamp for CT, I also buy licenses for MA, VT, NY, NY, and PA. I will fish within a 500-mile circle of where I live. I can go a little further south and North. North will take me into Canada. South as far down to TN. I got a lot of water to fish, all I need is just the effort to go.

      @@GeorgeSemel Thanks for the info, you are lucky to have so much fishing available for a very reasonable price. In the UK you can pay in the hundreds for a day on one of the top rivers. I belong to a club which is pretty reasonable at just over $200 a year. It took 10 years to get into the club! Hopefully one day I’ll find the time for a trip over the pond!

    • @LooknFishy
      @LooknFishy  Před 2 lety +1

      Like someone else mentioned. I purchase a license for each state. They all run/manage their fisheries differently and most National Forest adopt the local state regulations rather than creating new ones. We are fortunate to have lots of public land!

    I’ve been head down motoring on the trail to get to a lake and at a sharp bend literally went face to face with a moose, twice! I mean less than 5’, and both times (thank God) I backed up slowly and the beast just ambled on across the trail. Damn things are sneaky!

Love your Video`s, beingable to see all this country and fly fishing all these great places is a dream of many people, your choice`s back then were ideal, the part of living life to the fullest,and most inportant, marrying an very unstanding woman, lucky dude.. Good luck for the future.

    Sven and Olaf chartered a plane to go deep in the woods to hunt moose. After 3 days they called their plane back to pick them up. Upon arrival the pilot said theres no way they were going to make it up and over the mountains with that 1500 lb moose loaded on the plane. SVen and Olaf yelled at him and said " What are you talking about?!, we did this same thing last year!" So the pilot said " well alright,". The pilot started the plane and got going, he was going as fast as he could and climbed as high as he could but he crashed the plane on the face of the mountain. Out of the wreckage, Sven, Olaf and the pilot climbed out and thanked God to be alive. The pilot asked out loud "Where do you think we are?", Sven and olaf looked at each other and said "We dont know, but it looks like the exact same place we crashed last year!"...Happy Thanksgiving
