      @@PeterWilhelm - hi, thanks for the information.
      One question, my Son is an 18 year old universal credit claimant and he had an appointment at the jobcentre today and the work coach said he needs to go there once a week!!
      Is that correct??
      I had looked everywhere online and it says universal claimants need to go to the jobcentre once every three months! not once a week, which might I add, costs a fortune in bus fare.
      I said to the work coach, as I went along with my Son, can't my Son have phone appointments? and the work coach said 'no, we have to do what the government tells us and they don't want phone appointments anymore'.
      He also said the once a week appointments were the rules, however I don't think he was entirely telling the truth.
      Can you help please!? :-)

    • @PeterWilhelm
      @PeterWilhelm  Před 2 lety +1

      @@climbingthemountain26. Hi, The frequency of your appointments vary depending on your circumstances and level of claim, but I believe it is also down to the discretion of the work coach.
      The meeting every three months is usually for people who are claiming universal credit but are slef-employed and trying to build their income/business to a level where they no longer need UC.
      Regular UC appointments with a work coach are usually every 2 weeks but can be weekly if you work coach says so. Some people say they do this because they don't believe the claimant is doing everything they can to find work. Others say they do it as a way to inconvenience you to try and get you to miss appointments so they can sanction you or just get you to not bother claiming, both are ways of them saving money.
      In terms of phone appointments, while some people may still be on phone appointments, things are slowly being transitioned back to face to face, and unless you are sick or have a valid reason, you have to attend or they will sanction you. I believe you can claim expenses for your travel to and from the job centre for appointments so you can bring that up with the work coach next time.
      Hope that helps, take care

    Hi
    What can I do regarding deductions please ?
    I am a full time carer receiving carers allowance & UC.
    Since 2018 I have had a total of approx £5,000 paid back in arrears & deductions and penalty’s .
    My rent arrears were £150 prior to claiming UC . An alternative payment arrangement was put in place PRIOR to me claiming UC , yet my rent arrears 7 months later was £6,000 :(
    They did not pay any housing costs for 3 months & some months £0 .
    I have been surviving on £90 a week that just covers utilities, I have had to go to food banks .
    I also have been receiving eviction notices .
    At the same time for four years we had no heating or hot water due to a faulty boiler .
    We regularly have plumbing issues which means we have many floods .
    I am at my wits end & stressed .

      @PeterWilhelm  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi Amy, thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment! To answer your question there are work allowances that let you earn a certain amount before they start reducing your payments but this is dependent on your individual circumstances like who you are living with, disabilities or limited capability to work etc. The best bet before you make any decisions is to ask or send a message to your work coach asking them how your benefits will be affected if you begin to work, they are the only ones who can give you an accurate answer for your specific situation. • @PeterWilhelm
      @PeterWilhelm  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi Jaz,
      Sorry for the delayed reply.
      turn2us is actually the one that the government recommend people use on their website, so it should be accurate. I have a question though, has your situation changed since you first made a claim for universal credit? that could be your job, wages, living situation, kids etc. because if you are already claiming UC but nothing has changed then there should be a reason why you wasn't offered housing benefits from the start.
      Housing benefits are slowly being replaced by UC so it is important if you have had a change of circumstances that is putting you in a worse financial position that you let them know so your benefits can be adjusted accordingly.
      I cant say how long it would take because every situation is different. My first bet would be to speak to your work coach for UC to see what they say about it and how they suggest you move forward.
      Hopefully that helps, let me know if there are any other questions I can help with.

    • @Sarah-en4vh
      @Sarah-en4vh Před 2 lety +1

      Don’t do it. I don’t know if there’s any setbacks tbh but no friend should ask you for a property in your name. I assume you will be liable for any failed payments or damage to the property as it’s in your name. These two things sound inevitable to me, kids damage properties, carpets, flooring, walls, etc. Also if she can’t afford to sort herself out, there is a chance that she may fall behind on payments and you will be liable. Also I’m sure if she’s trying to do something under your name then it may be benefits fraud (I’m not so certain though). If I was you I would say you applied and that you were refused because of your parents’ savings/partners income or some other bs story. That way you don’t have to say no but you’re basically saying no.

      @PeterWilhelm  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Kelly,
      I'm pretty sure when on UC you will be able to claim housing benefit to help with your rent, that will mean the £324 allowance you are eligible for will be fore the other living costs that you mentioned.
      If you feel you are getting enough on JSA and don't want to change then I would just not say anything about it until they bring up the change themselves.
      If you want to compare to see what you could be eligible for compared to what you are currently getting, you can try using a benefits calculator like the one on turn2us website.
      I hope this helps, let me know if there are any other questions I can help with.

    Advance payment they do only once. In my situation I got £200.00 as I knew I will get salary then help from universal-credit.
    I'm working 30 hours per week. And one mistake in answer home, to-do list, journaling. I fill up in wrong commitments. They close my application. Coaching since first application newer contained me. I always get back if my hours changed. Seems I still do in wrong section my answer. It's just annoying. Now I'm afraid if they close my application again. As my application was closed I applied again. They don't give advice payment anymore. Citizens advice gave me food bank code. In all my 12 years in this country I first time have to take food. What made me feel sad about it....So you can ask food bank food. I know there will people who struggling with it.

    • @PeterWilhelm
      @PeterWilhelm  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, when you get your payments they are for the period of the previous month, not the upcoming month.
      So for example if you get your first payment on 30th March, that payment for the month prior. So even though you are waiting 5 weeks, the first payment you get is for that period you have been waiting.
      Hopefully that makes sense, if not let me know and I will try again 😂
      If you are currently in the 5 week period and struggling you can get an advance from them which Is paid back by taking small amounts from future payments.

      a current tenancy agreement, rent statement or rent book
      a signed letter from your landlord (saying that you live there, pay rent and are living there legally)
      details of service charges you’re responsible for
      a current mortgage agreement, mortgage statement or bank statement showing mortgage payments
      details of any loan agreements secured on your property

      Hi, it is possible for you to get Universal Credit in this scenario, but your husbands situation is taken into account and how much you get, if anything, will depend on a number of factors, including how much your partner is earning.
      UC website says:
      "You can claim Universal Credit if you and/or your partner are in employed or self-employed work and are on a low income.
      If you are unsure about your eligibility please complete an online application form. You’ll be asked more questions to check your eligibility when you make a claim for Universal Credit."

    • @PeterWilhelm
      @PeterWilhelm  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Fawaz, Thanks for checking out the video. To answer your question that is not true. For example if you picked up one shift and was paid only £50, you would not lose all of your Universal Credit, because that would leave you in an impossible situation.
      For every £1 you earn in your job you will lose 63p of Universal Credit payment, So for example if your UC was around £400, you would need to be earning around £600 in employment before your UC payment was reduced to 0.
      I hope this makes sense. But if you need more clarification, send your work coach a message and they will be able to explain it further in relation to your specific situation.

    • @PeterWilhelm
      @PeterWilhelm  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi thanks for the feedback.
      I think this would be a tricky situation just due to the fact that some people could claim to have split up in order to get housing benefits to pay their ex (who they are actually still with)
      because of this they have the following rules:
      "Renting from a former partner
      You can’t get housing benefit if you pay rent to an ex-partner for a home you used to live in as a couple, or if you have a child with your ex and your child lives with you.
      It does not matter if the ex-partner is not your most recent ex.
      You can get housing benefit if you pay rent to an ex-partner for somewhere you never lived together as a couple, as long as you do not have a child with your ex who continues to live with you."
      I hope that answers your question

      @PeterWilhelm  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Lola, Yes you need to inform UC of any changes of circumstances. If you don't and they find out you will most likely get a sanction.
      University students aren't usually eligible for universal credit but it depends on things like if you are part time or full time students, and the fact you have 2 children will be taken into account as well.
      You can report a change of circumstances through your online account, and use a benefits calculator like turn2us to see how this will affect your benefits going forward.
      I hope this helps, and good luck with your studies!

    2 friends living together can make separate claims while a couple have to make a joint claim giving them less money. So basically if you're a couple you're better off just telling them you're just friends. Makes no sense that people are being punished for being in a relationship and being forced to join up their finances like they're married even if they've only been dating a couple of weeks. What is this the 1930s?
