    Forgot to mention the case is fully reversible, so you can flip the motherboard tray around and have the mobo on the right side, PSU on the left, etc. Kinda cool, but hardly unique. IMO you'll still need to run a custom loop & leverage more of this case's features for it to be worth the $179.99 US MSRP. Feel free to share your thoughts.

      It also seems as tho you couldn't use the upright mount for a watercooled gpu, as the inlet/outlet ports that protrude from the card wouldn't fit with the front panel on. I guess the EK 30 series FE blocks would be ok, but other than that, the block wouldn't fit

      So you can mount your GPU with the upright kit and the rad on "top" in the reverse setup. Then remove the plate for the back and 120mm on the side or the mesh front panel

    The rear plate for the upright GPU, not the bracket but the plate itself ... is reversible.
    If you inverted that plate it would set over an inch further back in the chassis.
    That means that the bracket would also be set back, which means you wouldnt have had a problem with the rad up top, or fans, or be too close to a rad or fans on the bottom, and/or you could put a 240 rad on the front panel.
    The reversibility of that panel is key to the design ... I guess you missed that.

  • @jaymacpherson8167

    If custom painting of a case is “basic,” then this case is a dream with all its and modularity. Strictly from a parts build, I still find it a leap beyond most alternatives as one vendor has it listed for ~$150 US. That price seems very competitive given its flexibility.

  • @Admiral_Nimtz
    @Admiral_Nimtz Před 2 lety +94

    The problem is you didn't turn around the mounting plate that the GPU holder can bolt to. The front right side mounting plate not only can be changed but is reversable an moves it closer to the right outside panel giving you more room on the inside of the case to mount the top rad an fans. Looks like you rushed this build a little to get the review out.

      Yeah and his assessment is just bafflingly dumb. "The average builder can't use this! It'd be a waste!"
      Why? It's not much more and if you have a GPU mounted normally, it'll be just as good as the tens of thousands of builds using other Lian Li 011's? Not onlt that but these cases as we know can even work with vertical GPU's too etc etc.
      There's no NEED to custom loop this at all, and he simply built this terrible. Liek this is a garbage build, if you showed me pictures of this and went "The verge built another terrible computer!" I'd believe it was the verge lol.

    I've just received this case and it's an absolute gem.
    I've done a couple of builds in the past so no expert but this case can be utilised for a basic or advanced builders. It lets you customize in so many ways, including reverse, which if like me you need to switch the viewing side of your rig is a big deal - how was this an after thought?! Yes, inverting a case is not unique but to be done this well actually is.
    The negativity in this review is dumbfounding for a case this good - cable management, modularity, aesthetics all bang on the money.
    I was totally opened minded about choosing a case for my new build but after reading countless reviews I knew this was the one, I wasn't disappointed! This case was made for the community from listening and implementing their ideas. Great job Lian Li & Der8auer.

Another thought would be with the GPU taking up the normal Pump/Res area you would almost need to go with a distro plate on the front, so you don't end up blocking the view of the GPU which again is kind of a main reason for going with this case.

    Furthermore, I'm pretty sure there is a way to mount the other side panel behind the GPU to mount fans. You just have to get creative.

    I did a build with this case. I got a good deal at Micro Center in my area, so I got it over the XL (which was full price). Not a bad little build. I mounted the AIO Radiator (GA 2 Trinity 360) on top. Single fan set (not push/pull) blowing out. I mounted the GPU (2.5 slot) in the traditional location - no riser cables or other nonsense. 1 120 fan in the back blowing out (traditional). Bottom set of 3 fans intake. Side set of 3 fans intake.
    This is a 14700K with the RTX 4070 Ti build with the Avermedia PCIe capture card. All works really well. Looks pretty good to since I went with the Lian Li Uni v2 fans. System will be mainly recording, streaming, and light video editing. Specs are a bit overkill but got a nicer system because of BF specials and the PCIe capture card requires NVIDIA GPUs for 60fps capture - otherwise, I would have opted for the Intel Arc A770 and a lower end chip.
    I do agree, this case goes on a desk not the floor - which I true for any "showcase" PC case like the O11D series.

    I already have an idea for using this air cooled (including front vertical GPU) without filling up every fan slot, but it'll depend on air cooler fin arrangement and motherboard VRM heatsink height (plus the RAM) and whether heatpipe orientation matters for die placement (or was this just a problem with direct contact pipes on Ryzen's too offset chiplet? no content at all yet on whether this is a problem on Alder Lake).
    A. If the side fan bracket can be used with the vertical graphics card mount : three NF-A12x25 or F120T30 on the bottom, two 120mm or 140mm fans behind graphics card, Dark Rock Pro 4/Dark Rock 4/Assaassin 3/NH-D15/etc rotated 90 deg, maybe one 120mm or 140mm above/behind CPU cooler
    B. If only the closed off bracket can be used with the vertical graphics card mount : three NF-A12x25 bottom or F120T30 on the bottom, Dark Rock Pro 4/Dark Rock 4/Assaassin 3/NH-D15/etc rotated 90 deg, one 120mm or 140mm above graphics card, one 120mm or 140mm above/behind CPU cooler.
    So basically,
    1. Instead of the normal 011 giving the GPU fresh air but then you still have the hot air coming off it passing through the CPU cooler, you basically give both the same intake but with less restriction to the graphics card (as on normal cases, especially when smaller than ATX; or the bottom front fan can't be set lower, like on some NZXT and Phanteks cases), you're also giving the GPU and CPU cooler+everything else (M.2, VRM, RAM) their own exhaust paths so you don't recycle hot air.
    2. Alternately, it'll be like those Silverstones and the Torrent, not relying on 180mm fans (and in the case of the Fractal, three more 140mm fans on the bottom) to brute force extreme positive pressure to push hot air out. Also unlike the Silverstones, you don't have the I/O and cables possibly blocking paths for convection, although if you're tall enough pulling a top panel off is more convenient than reaching into the back (plus dealing with this vertical mount).
    3. And unlike those Cooler Masters with the front vertical mount you don't get a very cool running graphics card cooking the CPU since the air on those flows front intake to GPU to CPU cooler.

Phanteks makes an exhaust distribution plate, mate that with the front glass distro plate replacement, push on a regular 360 rad on side, beefy push pull on bottom rad, standard pull on topside. That being said, with the bottom and sides being push pull with larger rads, do you recommend keeping the tip exhaust as both other rads would be pushpulling intake or would you make side push pull exhaust, with top and bottom intake since I'm making the exhaust fan side a distro plate?

    It might look better with the riser cable coming from the lower card slot, which some MB's run the same speed as the top slot. I guess it's not long enough to route through the back and down to the bottom slot. That said, this still looks like it's in the prototype stage. The space above the MB is big enough for a push and pull radiator setup or a fat radiator, which is a little strange. Just invert it for proper AIO orientation... Duh hehehehe

    3 things. #1: I'm pretty sure you're meant to use the fan bracket with the upright GPU mount so you'd have big, wide-open spaces (yeah!) to route the PCIe cables through. I could be wrong, idk.
    #2: IMO, the upright GPU bracket is just a gimmick and was clearly not thought through that well. It would look a lot cleaner if the riser cable was just a bit longer, so you could run it through the cable grommet right beside the GPU and then up through the bottom hole (if it were wide enough) where front panel connectors and fan/RGB cables would normally go.
    #3: I feel like 99% of people would just use the regular GPU/PCIe slots or the normally-vertical GPU mount that attaches where the PCIe slots are. The "upright" mount is just for show, IMO.
    Besides the things mentioned above, I love this case. They really improved on the design and the modularity is amazing.

      length of the riser cable is absolutely my biggest down side for this case as well. The rest is managable. This, however, is pure garbage. You could fit it easily through the grommets and below the motherboard. It just needs to have the appropriate length. Sadly, though, they didn't do that for the final version. :/
      But still, I guess I'm gonna buy that case and that accessory... The case is just too much perfect for me and my use case.
      Maybe I'll find another riser cable or something that'd make this thing work like a charm!

    The plate the gpu is attached to did you flip it around so it's closer to the back panel? The gpu would go deeper into the case instead of sticking so far out. From what I also seen you can put 3 fans behind the gpu if mounted properly. I'd give it a go again with the gpu in that spot again.

    So just curious. But I don't even run the side clear panel on my PC's anymore. I just run a open side case. Its a bit more noise but it allows the air to vent out. Also, I often blow out the dust pretty often and I hate taking on and taking off the panel all the time, its not much work, but I just vacuum/blow it out.

I really want the pillar to be see thru as well...But we now need a LIAN LI RGB RISER CABLE!!!

    I like my o11d XL so much I’m going to do my first n water loop in it because EK makes a massive distro plate that looks to cool.

    • @Clutch_Gameplays
      @Clutch_Gameplays Před 2 lety +1

      I actually have to disagree with you on this. Yes, the upright GPU takes up some decent space, but the mounting has more pros than cons. When you think about it, if you have fans in the front, the GPU gets SO MUCH BETTER COOLING if it isn’t blocked, in upright.

    • @Matt-gf4gd
      @Matt-gf4gd Před 2 lety

      I get where you're coming from, but I think it can be done to make it even more cooling efficient in vertical upright position given you get a much more efficient air stream in the unobstructed "chimney" cooling format where fresh air sucks in the bottom and straight up through the exhaust. Also you can get a slim 20mm radiator and slim fans and fit a 3rd radiator behind the vertical GPU. Just food for thought.

    • @MoparMooser
      @MoparMooser Před 2 lety

      @@Matt-gf4gd there is some other dude on here that did a break down of thermals for different fan configurations, and no matter how you do it, mounting the GPU upright causes higher temps for the GPU and the entire case. The main reasoning is that those side mounts provide great airflow for a radiator and the gpu is blocking all of that space and pushing hot air off of the GPU into the center of the case. Obviously its normal for a gpu to do this, but this issue lies with the gpu covering a massive vent allowing air to only come in from the bottom and out the top. If the side is used as an intake radiator, then you’ll be pulling in air from the side and the bottom allowing for a bigger surface area for the air to flow.
      All that being said: if you like the upright design and your temps don’t get out of control, by all means go for it. I just don’t see very many people buying a case like this to NOT attempt to take advantage of the airflow

    • @Matt-gf4gd
      @Matt-gf4gd Před 2 lety

      @@MoparMooser I actually didn't notice much worse temps in the upright. You can still probably mount a radiator there as well.... There's plenty of space leftover, depending on your card... I'd say about 40-60mm behind the GPU.
      I tried different orientations and found that the upright position lowered my CPU temps and increased my GPU temps slightly, but not by much. I found an odd orientation seemed to work pretty well where I mounted a 140mm fan as intake behind the GPU in upright at the bottom and an exhaust 140mm at the top behind the GPU. Thermals seemed pretty good with that setup, though I could see using the whole side as intake unobstructed probably gives slightly better thermals. I'm intending to go custom loop water cooled though with a bottom and top 360 radiator, so it wouldn't be an issue. If you're doing all air cooled, then probably a few % less optimal, but for the trade off of aesthetics I still kinda like it personally.
