  • The Ferrari 308 was one of the brands best selling cars, wih thousands of units made and three distinct variations there are lots of choices when it comes to buying one. However some Ferrari 308s stand out from the rest. This 308 is a GTB, which Ferrari produced fewer of, plus it is in the extremely desirable color combination of silver over black. The paint on this car is not only a stunning color combo but is also all original. To make this car even better it is a carbureted engine, which is the best sounding and most pure of all the 308 line up. And to top it all off it is a one owner from new car that comes with every document from new and is a platinum winner, attending almost 40 various concours throughout its life. This 308 GTB stands out from the rest and is arguably one of the best examples in existence!

    Only the european GTB models ( fiberglass & steel body ) did have the 256 HP dry sump engine ! The american GTB's had the regular V8 from the 308 Gt4 Dino/Ferrari !.

    There definitely is a nostalgia fetish for carburetors these days but the fact is that F1 abandoned them in the mid 60's and if Ferrari had made a carbureted 308 that would have met US emission standards for 1980 it would have been dismal. The 1981 Corvette got 190 hp out of a 5.7 liter carbureted V8 and that was the last year that they, and practically everyone, else used carbs.

    I've never seen a 308/328 GTB. All the ones I've seen have been the GTS. The GTS just seemed to be much more popular. I do like the uninterrupted look of the roofline that the GTB had vs. the GTS. If only Ferrari had the targa top on the GTS painted the same color as the rest of the body.

    • @pi.actual
      @pi.actual Před 2 lety +1

      People have sanded them smooth and painted them body color but the problem is they can't take the abuse of being stored behind the seats without getting scratches on the gloss finish. That's why they made them textured black, same as Porsche 911 Targa and 914. Some QV GTS's have untextured rear spoilers because Ferrari underestimated how much more popular the GTS was going to be over the GTB and ended up making way too many smooth wings which were intended for the GTB.

    Grp 308’s were discontinued due to cost. Not body flex, the weight difference between the two was minimal.

  • @4rephill
    @4rephill Před 2 lety

    How many points does it lose for having a non illuminating front side light?
    The GTB has more head room than a GTS? - Only when the GTS has the roof on. Roof off, the GTS' headroom is limitless.
    The change from fibreglass (vetroresina), to steel body construction was all about production costs not body flex. The man hours to get the fibreglass to the standard Ferrari required was just too many, for the perceived advantage that fibreglass was thought to have. If body flex was such a concern, Ferrari would never have released the 308 GTS, because they can flex enough to pop the doors open whilst being driven (even the later 328 GTS' can have their doors pop open due to flexing!)
    Ferrari claimed that the fibreglass/Vetroresina cars were @ 150 Kg lighter than the steel cars - Owners who have weighed both, have said in reality, the difference is only @ 23Kg to 36 Kg.
    And don't believe anyone who tells you to buy a fibreglass/Vetroresina model because they do not rust - They can suffer far worse corrosion than the steel cars, because their fibreglass construction traps moisture beneath the body work, causing the chassis to corrode horrifically (As shown in Tyrell's Classic Workshop : czcams.com/video/NeWOI95ffBo/video.html from @ 8:00 )
    I'm being a bit picky, but I would add: I do really enjoy these video's - Keep up the good work Colleen!

    smog points are BS. its illegal for ferrari to sell it in its best form. what kind of sense does it make to return the car to original for purely originality's sake? period correct exhaust should be all that is required
