The trick is to not cut the line too high on your neck, and let the beard grow out. Too many guys remove too much from their jaw.

@@livebearded My beard is not very dense, with a lot of patches, but once I grew it out longer than about three inches, all those flaws disappeared and I now have a huge full beard. It's massive from my cheeks forward. I groom it so it lays more forward than down, and it's completely full under my jaw. I can wear a bow tie but you can't see it.

@The Metalhead Yes. I do not like when guys shave under their jaw, and their beard starts at some arbitrary line that runs around to their chin. That is a nooby mistake. The line should start near your ears and run under your jaw, next to your neck. Granted, this is difficult for overweight guys who have more than one chin.

What should you do if you suffer with spots on your cheeks and there are small hairs growing over them? I'm only 2 weeks into growing my beard and feel it's best to let these cheek hairs grow for another few months so that I don't irritate the skin. Good thing to do?

This touch up is good but when you're doing it yourself you might want to invest in a top notch beard trimmer. Before getting a trimmer with sharp blades I seemed to always mess up my lines. It's because I had to use multiple strokes in same area to trim. After getting a sharp, well made trimmer, I was using less stokes to trim up my beard, plus the lines were straight.

The problem i have with my beard is it grows, then stops for months and then it continues to grow. it's tiresome at the beginning but when time passes you like it even more.
Time and patience are for sure a double edge sword. But it really comes down to how long you want it to grow. I miss that long beard lol, it is slowly growing back but yeah it comes down to personal style.

What if you grow nothing under your lip? Fine at the sides and under the chin but Sweet F.A under the lip. Any tips on how to style that type of beard? Lookin a little like a potato farmer at the moment which is not a style I'm going for.

If you struggle through it does eventually even out with length but If you don't want it to look stupid trim it down. I recently shaved my 4 month beard down to 1 inch cus I went back to work and I got that neck thing again. Didn't have it before I trimmed
This is nice , when I grow out my beard (my cheek lines are light and my sideburns and neck hairs are dark) the neck area gets this bulk like shown on the video and it bothers me , but this vid shows a way that’s effective to beat that lol

It is tough for sure letting someone else cut your beard, since you can go from 8 months of growth down to 2 months. Glad this was informative.
As the beard gets longer do you cut the neck line lower and lower or do you keep it where the head connects to the neck?
Great question, you want to keep your neckline about a finger width above your adam's apple, this way it helps the beard look thicker.

The thing with my beard it doesn't grow super fast around my cheeks but it does on my neck.

Not weird at all brother. Every beard is unique. Just let it grow about 4 months or so and quite possibly your cheeks will fill in and the hair that have sat dormant thus far will push through!

I'm lost with how i should deal with my under-jaw hairs. I'm currently growing it out, hairs are around half an inch. The chin hairs aren't really long enough yet to give any real length to the chin and maybe obscure some of that, but i'm in this phase where the jaw hairs aren't long enough to hang down on their own, but they're not exactly short. I was just brushing it backwards and outwards and it looks okay, but as it gets longer i'm worried it won't look good. Especially towards the edges, i don't want it to look like i have fucking wings coming off my jaw. And trying to force them to hang down with blowdrying/gel just ruins the jaw-line and doesn't look even. Even if i try to bush the hairs toward the chin and out. Like in the video here, to me that just lookes like a bunch of natted up puebs under his jaw and i don't want that look.
some parts grow in more than others, AS you can see in the video the chin grows out quicker than his cheeks. I usually suggest about 4 to 5 months of growth before trimming. Grow for about 4 months straight before trimming at all. Then maybe once a month for fly always or once every 3-4 months if you're looking to grow a big beard.

I want to grow a beard. Right now I have a fairly ample goatee. The style I have sometimes is called a circle beard or circle goatee. My question is whether I should just let all my facial hair grow out for a month or so before beginning to trim? Or should I trim my goatee back so that the entire growth is more uniform?
Also, what are your thoughts about mustache trimming? Right now I regularly trim it so that it does not cover my upper lip. Should a proper beard cover the upper lip?
Hey brother! All great questions. We suggest 3-4 months of growth with no trimming to fully reach a state in your beard that you can see your growth patterns. My beard grows under and back behind my ears. Naturally. It feels wrong trimming that off to make a straight line down with my sideburns. Why is everyone doing that? Maybe alot of men's natural line doesn't grow back behind the ear? Does it look bad to let it grow in its natural state as long as the neckline is kempt otherwise?
It's basically just a matter preference, honestly. We see guys with the uniform straight look like Justin here, and we also have guys with beards much like you're saying. Regardless of where the line of trim starts, we feel it's best to be straight from that point to give a fuller looking beard. It's all up to you though bro. There is no wrong way to look with a beard, and that's the great part of growing!
Smh I chop my beard off every time in the 3 week stage because I still can't line it up right I guess I will try to go to a barber and hope they can help me untill I get it myself
you may be trying to line it up a bit too soon! I typically recommend 3-5 months of untouched growth before you go in for a trim and lineup, in order to let the beard fully fill in so it's easier to shape and get those lines you're looking for!

Thats a very general question brother. If there is no hair follicle, hair will not grow. You cant create a hair follicle where there is not. So genetics play a role there. But you can improve on what you do have with a good beard care routine, nutrition, and patience. As the hair gets longer it will overlap and have a fuller appearance!

Finally, a guy who knows how to teach guys about beard lines. The number one idiotic thing I see (it tends to be more on straight guys) is trimming their beard too high from the neckline.

What if one side of my beard looks longer, "wider", but it isn't? Something like in this photo - pinterest.com/pin/860469072524914137 - I have a similar shape and length now, but the center is a bit wider. One side of his beard looks longer, just like mine. Should I trim the bottom of my beard more or just let it grow and it'll fix by itself when it's longer? It looks asymmetrical and drives me crazy.
Hey bro, great question. The best thing to do is to just let it grow for 3-4 months with no trimming at all aside from a neck and cheek clean up, of course. This will allow you to see your growth patterns and be able to adjust them accordingly. Most beards don't, in fact, grow in evenly and the amazing beards you do see have been maintained and groomed for years to get that appearance. Finding your thinner spots and letting your hair grow a bit longer in those areas to cover up happens all the time. Don't get discouraged, use patience and if it gets unbearable, find a trusted beard barber and tell them you want a good shape up to maximize your growth!
My chin and cheeks grow at a "normal" rate, but my neck grows about half of that.
Just let it grow for about 4ish months then have a beard barber line it up for you my man. Letting it grow will allow for some of the hairs that aren't used to growing to push through eventually and you'll be good to go!

Not how that works man, you have to use it till the hair follicle goes terminal. I took minoxidil when i was 17 and never lost the growth

always remember bro, less is more! Take very small amounts at a time and spread the trim out over a few days. Give's you a chance to wash the beard and let the hair fall into place again before continuing to trim!
