Music video by Sugababes performing Round Round. (C) 2002 Universal Island Records Ltd. A Universal Music Company. #Sugababes #RoundRound #Vevo #Pop #OfficialMusicVideo
I grew up listening to the Sugababes as a kid, they were a great Girl Band for their time with 6 UK No. 1 singles on their belt including ‘Round Round’ which has always been my favourite. Even though they had a number of lineup changes.
@@andrewmark2783 Left Eye was definitely the Queen of the quirky hairstyles. I definitely see the inspiration but Mutya also managed to create a quite original hairstyle. It's so unique.
@DaveTaste I really hate these stupid "this song/group is so underrated/unappreciated" comments. 2002, Sugababes were one of the biggest groups in the world at the time. This song was no. 1 in the UK, and many other countries, and reached the top 10 in a load more. Its certified as a Gold record, it was their biggest selling single until Push the Button. Just because some people haven't heard of them or have just discovered them, that doesn't mean they weren't well known or underrated.
Mutya has an amazing distinctive unique voice, you'd recognize her among hundreds of other singers. I love them equally but Mutya is my #1. Her voice is so edgy that makes their songs sound unique and completely different to those of other girl groups. She plays the most important role in the group. Keisha has a sensual voice and Heidi has a sugary tone. The Sugababes' voices are complementary and create such an unique harmony.
To me, Mutya created that very distinct "Sugababe sound"..You can tell it's their song as soon as you hear that deep, sultry, and soulful voice of hers..It became their signature sound..
Freak like Me + Round round + Hole in the head are what made the Sugababes 2.0 iconic. Watch those music videos, they gave attitude and looked badass like you would never mess around with them. Their different vocals complimented each other. Mutya had the husky voice, Keisha’s was very soulful and Heidi provided the sweet-pop effect.
You can tell this is a Sugababes song, even without recognizing the voices. Music that's made to be commercial can easily fall into the trap of being cowardly. The melodies and the whole sound is actually really creative.
@@pt4005 The word you're looking for is Sample. There's actually 4 different pieces of music that make up the backing to this track and the Tango Forte sample is the Chorus with the verses not coming from Tango Forte.
However the voices played a very important role in making this a Sugababes-esque song. Mutya and Keisha' s voices in particular. Mutya is in the lead obviously, she's the one with this peculiar husky unique tone that gave them an edgy sound. No wonder why she's all over the chorus as well. She's the heart and soul of the Babes, Keisha too.
Back in the days when pop music was all about properly crafted rhythms, scene setting, layered melodies, with catchy hooks, great vocal interaction and plenty of polished production to make songs sound unique, compared to todays over singing vocal gymnastics, with hollow, generic sounding beats and an instrument/sample or two thrown on top, if you're lucky.
This song is still quite simple - chorus is unisono and only one drum pattern is repeated in a natural and a synthetic form. However, the natural snare sounds very pretty, unlike common synthetic or overprocessed snares. Is it piccolo or some maple? If you wanna hear good rhythms, go for 60s, I think that it is the classic era of drums, 80s became a parody in this regard.
@@StreamHypeBoyByNewJeans I like this song, I just countered a notion that it is complex. I like the sound of the snare and also the overall mix which is well balanced with drums as loud as I like.
Whaaaaat?!?!? 😲 This whole time I thought it was “Spend the night on me” as well!!!!! It was only until I saw your comment that I realise that they were actually saying a clever spin on “Round Round” with that lyric! 😭
Can we please appreciate how hard the bridge drops? It fascinates me how much it differs from the rest of the song, still fits so well. Absolute banger of a song

Into something new
