Otis also sang 2nd tenor and first tenor in the background and he had an outstanding falsetto in the background. Just listen to the harmonies in the Classic 5 era and you can hear Otis in the background under Eddie and over Paul. Also listen to the background in I'M GOING TO MAKE YOU LOVE ME, Eddie's lead is also the top note in the background and Otis is the tenor under Eddie. And at the end of the song you'll hear a sample of Otis' falsetto.
At this point, every Temp and former Temp was out of Motown. The Tempts were on Atlantic, Mr. Ruffin was on Warner Bros., and Eddie was on Arista...and they were all struggling. (Dennis was shopping for a solo deal as well, but it didn't pan out...yet.) The mid-to-late 70's was not kind to them.

The Temps album on Atlantic did not get much airplay, but going back and listening to this album it was better than average!
Their failed to crack to the chart lack of promotions so they went back to motown and negotiations their deal
They probably knew they'll be a bump in the road.
