I'm struggling to figure out Cody's options of getting out of the corner or things to do in the corner. I do have vskill 1 but if I miss it I'm kinda screwed.
It's tough without a 3 frame jab or DP at times but generally the opponent knowing your one jab ex zonk activation away from a win is threatening enough. If I have zonk charged I often watch for dash or a walk after a medium button. I drill anti airing with this in mind with my back to the corner aswell, by anti airing I mean air to air. I can try and go over corner defense sometime in another video.
watch momochi cody sfv on wake up. when he wakes up, hes great at getting out of pressure. there is no perfect option but if they give you 3 frame windows, or small windows in block strings, you can interupt with s.lk or s.mk and cancel into vtrigger, which gives you ample time to confirm into damage or pressure. just for example. you cant take advantage in the corner, but you can defend with a little luck and skill and find a tiny escape. i used to love forward dash on wakeup in sf4, when shit hit the fan, so many neutral jumpers mis timing their safe jumps into surprise cody combo. doesnt happen much in sfv though.
My man! Keep up the great work! Have you ever thought about analyzing Rumor's CPT run? or maybe another Cody's gameplay. I think it would be cool to see your advice applied on top of a real (high level) match.
@@DardanZ the length is very much appreciated!!! you put out some of the best SF content out there, absolutely hands down.... on a side note: i don’t know if this request would be worth your time but could you perhaps do a run down on rock 🪨? it may seem straight forward/surface level stuff to someone as skilled as you but to me it feels like there’s so many options and things that could happen so perhaps could you do a vid where you walk us through what you’re thinking? i understand if it’s just basic stuff and not worth your time though 👌
This might be scrubish but what do you think about holding ex zonk when you are being combo. That way you can wake jab go into lvl 2 zonk and get pressure.
It's not scrubby. What I do is as soon as I start getting hit, if I want zonk I hold buttons then do no rise. After they throw you, or frame trap you and go back to neutral you should have lvl2. Good idea
If you do a lv2 zonk after crimesway you get a juggle state.. ruffian can connect. But could you crimesway into lv2zonk into ex zonk? Ive been trying this but have no idea if its just not possible or ny execution is to blame.
My biggest problem with Zonk is that I don't have an arcade stick. If I hold LP or MP on a PS4 controller, I can't press any other buttons aside from the fierces. So I always hold HP, and anti air with VS1, but that puts me in disadvantage against fireball spammers... When fighting these, I just pick VS2 and simply don't Zonk... Is there a way to overcome that mechanical problem with the PS4 controller?
I would say air to air, if not that you can walk under and punish their landing with light punch target combo. To beat fireball/jump you have to give up one of the options unfortunately. I usually don't risk zonk vs an aggressive opponent cause they're more likely to dash/jump ect, and I will need those options to counter them rather than zonk.
@@DardanZ Thank you for answering!!!!! I'll train air to air just in case, but you're right, I'll try to do exactly that and stop charging zonk so much
Would you say cody is okay to learn for a complete beginner? And would you recommend vs1 or 2 and vt1 or 2? Getting zonk out is my biggest issues atm so ty for this
Yea I think he's fine for beginners. I think V skill 2 is really good to learn. Practice anti airs in training mode if you aren't using v skill 1. Vtrigger 1 or 2 is great.
@@DardanZ cool ty! I'm mainly interested in nash and cody and have been trying to learn nash first but struggling. I also like to be more aggressive and realized nash is more of a defensive whiff punish style. How is cody's anti air game without vs1?
This is the Hoji content im here for
This video is a bit old but I recently started trying sf and learning Cody this video was very informative as I didn’t really know how to use zonk
Glad you liked it. Ya it can be difficult to know "when" are the right times for people. It can take some getting used to.
I wanted to ask you about this in Robs stream the other day but I thought itd be too long to answer. This video came at a great time!
Sweet my zonks were just ok this is gonna help a lot
Thanks man this helps a lot!! Specially for a new cody player like me, cheers!
Ufff all this stuff is so useful...Sensei, I’m thinking seriously in fallow your steps...!!!
Still working on the finger acrobatics required to use this move on pad
Thank you senpai 👏

Charging buttons is still such a wierd concept to me

this video is, no joke, exactly what i needed.
@@rycksoto9003 same here.. there’s so much thought to Zonk and it’s hard to find any resources on it. this guide was a god send 👍
