  • Hello Barbie fans, this is the Barbieshelf Channel with my March 2014 Barbie Diorama.
March 9th marks Barbie's 55th year since her debut at the New York Toy Show. So it is fitting that she accepts this statuette created in her Iconic likeness for 55 years of fun and fashion.
What better fashion to display than this exquisite 2000 reproduction appropriately named "Sophisticated Lady."
Sophisticated Lady was originally produced in 1963 and 1964.
The ball gown is made in an old rose colored taffeta, with silver filigree lace trim on the bodice and drape of skirt. The gown is perfectly complemented with an American Beauty rose colored fitted Velveteen Evening Coat, that is lined to match the gown along with long white opera length gloves and pink open toe shoes. Not shown is the tiara and single pink pearl necklace. Instead I've chosen to complement this outfit with jewelry from an eBay auctioneer: Dolly Delights. Her vintage style Barbie jewelry: the snake wrap bracelet, pearl drop earrings and three strand necklace compliment this ensemble beautifully.
A full petticoat enhances the gown as it was meant to be and gives it that Fairy Tail look, fit for a princess!
Lou Preager and his Orchestra performing Duke Ellington's: "Sophisticated Lady."

I am a male and a vintage Barbie collector. I am not sure there are too many of us around but I really enjoy Barbie. I would really like to know more about what you collect. I really don't know any male collectors but I know that they are out there. Your doll is so lovely and your video is truly wonderful. Thank you for posting.

JAM S - Are you are not on Facebook? There are so many Barbie groups with many men in almost all of them.
You’ll find Barbie groups of every kind from vintage, Silkstone or the newer playline dolls like Fashionista dolls. Any doll you can think of there’s a group, or many groups for each genre... too many at times.
I personally collect the early Barbie years and some of the made-to-move newer dolls, where articulations is key to story telling. And apes king of story telling, there are diorama groups where the creativity is off the charts fantastic. I can’t even keep up with the groups and the themes some have to inspire group members to post photos of their dolls in fun fashions or settings.
      Best to you!

@@barbieshelf I was on Facebook but I got off of it about a year and a half ago. I, like you collect the early Barbie clothing and dolls. I just love them. The problem is I don't have any friends who share my passion so I am alone when it comes to collecting. I enjoy it but I would really enjoy it with people who have the same drive to find that special Swirl, #1, or MIB/NRFB Bubblecut. It is fun to have people to share your collections with.

It is pronounced 'dee - orama' because the outfit was inspired by designer Christian Dior

I don't know if I buy it, my big brother says she's ugly. I'm 15 years old.
