Darius is a remarkable character that truly embodies Noxus's philosophy.
He confronts his defeated opponents by immediately looking at them as equals. He doesn't see them as prisoners nor slaves, but citizens of Noxus. He only killed the king because of his weakness, as he couldn't even fight for his own beliefs.
I really hope Arcane goes long enough to introduce him, or at least Noxus as a region.

There's also rumours that the reason she's pushing for Hextech weapons is so she can defend her clan from someone coming for her. Which could be the Black Rose, or depending on the year it could be Swain wiping out the old nobility and enforcing his own ideals.
@@TheJamieellis I'm pretty late on this, but I think Arcane is several years in the past when Darkwill was still in charge while this video is more current-timeline when the Trifarix is now in charge, so it is possible they changed their ways a bit.
Darius is a soldier he beleives in noxian ideals that strength should be proven not won cuz you were born lucky he was born with nothing not even parents hes had to grind for all his power at becoming a general at first he only faught to make money to feed himself and his brother draven now he beleives in the noxian cause

That's exactly how I've always imagined Darius. Not someone cruel, not a butcher, just a soldier willing to do anything to win, and respectful of people standing for their convictions. And not willing to kill people who refuse to fight back.

Almost, but you are falling for the Noxian propaganda. You are valuable if you are strong. The act of the girl attacking the soldier and then defying the king may have saved her life, but to everyone else that surrendered or are "weak", they get to slave away feeding/supplying the Noxian war machine. That's why this video is so great.

They invaded the Ionia because of foolish noxian general orders. In Swain’s lore, he was questioning why would they wage war against Ionia when in fact the “crows” are telling him that their enemy lies in the noxus bastion itself. Swain was been defeated by Irelia, but because of that, he welcomed the demonic power, and learned the truth.
That’s why he seized power in noxus, to lead them to the right path of noxus. Their conquest before was a lie, and Swain strives to change it.
The reason why nothing makes sense in "league lore" is because its all 100% marketing. Good and bad in league of legends is a meaningless question. Nothing in these cinematics represent what league of legends the game is or is about.
Sometimes they are seen good people when they invade an opressive kindom. Sometimes they are seen as bad guys invading peaceful places. What they are in the core tho is just a bunch of brainwashed soliders because otherwise they would have nothing.

Draven was the first one that encourages to destroy Noxus itself, meanwhile Swain came and was like,

@@joeyroy7864 Well they didn't confirm it, but Ambessa implies something is going on with Noxus, multiple times in Arcane, she says that she had to go to Piltover because of desperate measures, and that she might have pissed off some very powerful person, could it be Swain? Next season is not going to be focused on Noxus or Ionia, because season 1 basically ended on a cliffhanger. Maybe season 3 or 4,which would be like a decade from now.

If I remember correctly it is the other way arround in the lore. Back when Darius and Draven fought together in the army Darius surprised Draven so much with this move that he decided to learn it too. And he went completely overboard with it in true Draven fashion.

What I find intersting about Noxus lore is that out of all the places we know, Noxus is by far the most diverse along changes they made like having a three man council to make sure there isn't corruption. I mean there is a lot of conquering and bloodshed but I'm still here questioning why we root for the mage hating hypocrites lol

Noxus is more so like the mongols. Conquerors for sure, but they would allow any who showed strong aptitude and skills to rise up and potentially even serve the khan. Which is exactly what Noxus is all about. "We don't care what your profession is, so long as you do it for Noxus. Assassin? Take out our enemies. Painter? Make us great works of art. Thief? Steal for Noxus.". And he's right about the Triumvirate. Swain introduced the idea of a 3 leader system, each representing a different aspect needed to lead. And the reason there are 3 leaders is that if 1 decided to go rogue, there are 2 others there to stop them.

Another clever thing in this short: The big guy with Darius is Capitain Farron, a card in Legends of Runterra. And his story says that he was a Zaunite boy with too many anger issues, however when he entered the Trifarians he managed to put his rage to good use.
So they're not only telling the tale of someone being "reforged" in Noxus but also showcasing someone who already has.
This story also kinda-sorta indicates that migration between the iron-clad military empire of Noxus and the I-don't-even-know-what goverment system of Piltover and Zaun is a thing

I mean, it's literally Darius, if I recall correctly a Legend or Runeterra card about some weapon to break gates has a quote from a soldier saying enemy won't open the gate until they get to talk with General Darius, suggesting Darius really is an idealist believing in the empire of merit and seeing bloodshed as one of the means to end tyrannies but preferring enemy surrender over senseless bloodshed if instead of freeing a graveyard he can create a happy and prosperous Noxian province.
And before you say it's out of character from how he talks in the game - in the game he's fighting while in additional videos and lore we see him as a reasonable and even merciful dude if killing isn't necessary not to mention that in Ruination cinematic he literally gets temporarily ruined after shielding Samira with his own body.
Nah I'd much rather them stick with the Evil Noxus,I liked them much better like that, it's kind of boring to be "just" and "right",what are we now? Demacia?.
The main reason why I hate Demacia is because of that,Garen has to be one the most boring characters out there.

That one word saved her life, and earned Darius's respect. He sensed the start of something when she had the guts to attack Farron and steal back the crown. But its the fact that she was willing to stand up against the weakling who would turn the kingdom into a graveyard just to hold onto a metal hat that really impressed him.
Riot making noxus more of a gray tones nation instead of a generic "bad guys empire" is one of the bestest things ever

@@TD-sh6wd Well, in that comic "Blood of Noxus" I think it's called. He was never married to the woman, he did have a romantic and possibly sexual relationship with her though. The woman's last words were "Decius was more than just my son Darius. He was-" Decius being the name of her son and "He was-" being right before she died. There are hints that Decius was Darius's son, one being the name similarities same amount of letters, starts with a D and ends with "ius." Another hint is the previously stated romantic or sexual relationship she had with Darius.

Farron becoming a champion is currently the biggest dream I have. I hope that one day it will become real. Huge respect and love for Farron. His story is good, design is amazing and I just love how manly, strong and Noxian he is.

Never was a Darius fan...until now,he owned my respect,I though he was a bloodthirsty murdering machine
I mean, I always seen him as a reasonable dude. Think about it, in the game he appears threatening but has multiple lines simply telling enemies they will regret opposing him (a killed enemy is too dead to feel regret) and telling them to run away, not to mention he could become an executioner styling on people sent to die and instead he became a soldier - I have a few soldiers in my family, every time I was a kid gasping over soldiers in movies killing a lot of people they were quick to say "In real life soldier has to complete a mission and not play team deathmatch, if enemy surrenders or runs away it's way better for everybody involved".

The dude saw his country heading in the wrong direction, executed the corrupt himself, turned down rule to give it to someone that could use it better, and continued to try and get the country on the right track. The truth of the matter, is he and garen are both 'good guys' for their respective kingdoms, though honestly, neither Demcaia or Noxus are particularly 'good'.

If you think about it, Demacia is basically the Germany of WW2 from the League Lore.
They aren't expansionist like them, but they have terrible politics against mages, which in some sense it is almost the same politics as the one Germany had with the Jews back then (In this case it's not racial, but talent based)
Demacians saved people from demons like nocturne for example. Imagine being born as a cripple in Noxus witout any fancy demon or magic powers. U will be discriminated as mutch as Demacia does mages.

I like how in this video Darius is NOT the biggest intimidating guy, rather another more larger and more armored warrior is there with him which makes Darius look like a more of normal armored warrior, in the game he usually depicted as a juggernaut.
Also i love how Darius cares for poor and weak people such as the slave girl and encourages them to find their "strength" 💪 which is also depicted in the other video such as breathe. This kinda shows me that Darius has good heart but is still a raw intimidating warrior who sees the grim reality but upholds his empire ideology of being strong 💪

Okay, I know this has been out for a while but I need to get this out there.
If any of what Darius says in this is anyway REMOTELY close to the canon lore of Noxus, then this writing is INSANELY good. I don’t know enough about the background lore on Darius or Noxus to make an accurate judgment on them, but here’s my point. If someone was to go into this video without any context of Darius, Noxus or anything to do with League of Legends, then despite their appearance, one might be forgiven for thinking Noxus are the good guys here.
Now before you start blasting me in the comments hear me out.
Darius looks like he truly believes what he is saying, and carries himself with the air of one deposing a Tyrant (okay he’s using force to do it but still). And one of the main things he talks about is how, if you have the strength then bountiful rewards await you in Noxus, and you will be beholden to only those who have proven themselves stronger... and there in lies the crux... “Proven”, those who have earned they’re place at the top, rather than simply getting it handed to them because they had the right parents. Darius’ entire speech highlights the hypocrisy of Monarchial systems, while lauding those of Noxus.
In short, it shows that Noxus isn’t wholly evil, and that some good can be found there, if you know where to look. Of course, what this doesn’t show is the flip side of the coin... what of the weak, those unable to earn their glory... they get weeded out of course, Noxus cares only for the strong.
Now again I don’t know enough about Rune Terra’s lore to know if Demacia is the antithesis of Noxus, and certainly Demacia has its own problems (prejudice against magic etc). But certainly I know that Demacia takes greater care of its people and is not so strength obsessed as Noxus is. Point being, neither of these two nations are perfect by any means, both have good points, and both have bad... ergo... INSANELY GOOD WRITING!
To fashion the two largest factions in Rune Terra in such a way is a brilliant move, as it blurs the line between good and bad, it isn’t just...
Noxus = Evil
Demacia = Good

You basically explained the reason why this game has so many followers, when you have a good Lore, people would come to your game, of course there are some retcons here and there to fix the stories or add some more content but so far they are being consistent.
Well it's never stated that if you're weak, you don't get a good life in Noxus. They're not spartans, throwing weak babies off of cliffs. It's just if you're good at what you do, no matter what you do, greatness can be yours if you work to earn it as opposed to just being handed it because you were born into the right family. I'm sure the general populace of Noxus are fine as is. It's just the stairs to greatness are easier to ascend in Noxus.
Brave of you to assume Demacia cares for its citizens. Look at all cinematics featuring demacia, they never even look back at their wounded, for example when Vayne fights ruined Shyvana she has a guardsman at her side, likely a huge badass since he survived in that hellscape for so long, yet after one dragon-form Shyvana's E he disappears from the trailer - we see no body, no groan of death or anything, for all we know they might've left him there wounded to die.
Now look at this trailer - 8 minion-grade soldiers, a child slave and an elderly king and Darius spares everybody with only death being the king and only because Darius simply prevented a murder.
If anything it suggests Noxus treats its own non-combatants fairly well, it's just so that league lore pretty much never shows us poor districts in Demacia (which there are, Sylas lore states as much) or civilians of Noxus besides the poor ones for which military career was the easiest way to socially advance (since a farmer needs land to prove his worth, a smith needs tools, a shopkeeper needs a building and money etc while military will at least give you basic equipment and feed you).
This sold me on playing this game. You guys are really great.
I love how despite having a really rough backstory and even losing his lover, Darius is still pretty passionate and caring

Can't wait to see Darius in some series. There are many directions to take this character.
The best change about the League of Legends Lore that Riot has ever made was the change of Demacia and Noxus. No longer are they "Good Country" and "Bad Country". Now they're both just "Countries with ups and downs, virtues and flaws", AKA they both feel rather grey instead of just black and white.
Strong agree, I REALLY like what they did with Demacia, I get the feeling that whoever actioned that change watched Merlin (2008) and looked at it and said: "All of the yes."

I know i'm super late in replying to this but they were never the "good and bad" countries. Noxus was always a meritocracy and Demacia was/is pretty draconian in it's laws and the ways it handled justice. The only reason people thought they were good and bad was because of how they looked and presented themselves without even reading up on their lores.

It was a very dumb idea from Riot to present every champ from those places in a way that's not really 100% how their country is, because not everyone just reads the lore for a game where lore doesn't matter at all, nor ever has.

To everyone that is bashing Darius for all of a sudden being compassionate, please keep in mind that in League of Legends lore, Darius and his younger brother Draven grew up as orphans in the slums of noxus where he fought everyday to keep himself and his brother alive. Noxians are not inherently evil, they just value strength and character at the top of the values chart.
Darius and Draven where not born in Noxus, they where from Basilich before it got conquered by Noxus, a Noxian commander took them in recognizing their strength and Darius worked his way up through the ranks from there.

the whole Noxus is evil thing is a relic of the old lore and the reworking of it now is a Meritocracy but at the same time Demacia is a Meritocracy...the only real difference between then is the size of their countries, perspective on magic, and their national colors. they are in effect big strong red army and little tough blue army.
