When Teddy spoke of fighter’s who deserve more recognition than they ever got I think of Charley Burley. He wouldn’t sign with corrupt promoters of the time so never got the title shot he deserved. He was a welterweight/middleweight who often had to fight light heavy weight just to get fights because so many fighters at his natural weight were kept clear of him. Archie Moore and George Benton both say he was the best fighter they ever saw bar none. Maybe sometime Teddy will let the fans know some of his history.
Wow. But i really hate that boxers have to dealwith that kind of bullshit. 😡
the great old trainer eddie futch said that charley burley was the greatest fighter he EVER SEEN
Heard the same: there's some footage of him out there on CZcams
@@andrewsmith423 If Futch says it, you listen.
He almost knocked out Moore
....About 50 times of watching Gatti Ward round9 and still get really excited.
I like watching from 4-10 but I get it the ninth is good. Micky had just taken so much damage in the first four. He got tuned up and landed two liver shots and it changed and they slugged it out. Fight should have been stopped imo at end of 8th
LeDeskripshun ....Yeah, you’re right. Micky’d taken hit just to land those liver shots. Micky knew he could finish it right after r8. But Arturo was tough enough and never give up.
....Salute to both of them. Cheers, mate. 🍺🍺🍺
@@heisenberg8917 Man, I been watching those Bobby Chacon vs. Boza Edwards, Bazooka Limon vs Chacon, Edwards vs. Limon, Etc.... Freaking incredible fights.
Still my all time #1 round- it never gets old
@@deadarmd lol you micky fan?🤣round 1-6own by gatti and 9 round too lol
Just wanted to say you guys are killing it. A reaal godsend for a lot of us right now.
100 % agree
yeah, we need this.
How about reading your BIBLE, thats a real God-send, isn't it?
@@GREGGSOHO You're watching the same video I am, you hypocrite.
@@fonkdasnyguh Yes i am, i love boxing, but i am not calling it a "Godsend"...I am trying to enlighten you, while you are calling me a hypocrite. Understand what i was trying to say to you.
Round 4 of Foreman vs Lyle is the best I've ever seen. Both men were dropped twice that round.
Brought tears to my eyes hearing Teddys recollection of his Ireland with Bary Mcguigan...
Great to hear and his knowledge of the situation was spot , didn't think hed know as much.
Did us Irish proud with that story.
Irish accent*
But first.. let's have a pint 😀
Teddy is the quarantine savior! Thanks for all you guys do.
taken out of context, you don't get the full effect of the Ward liver shot. Zab Judah ,right here on YT, now says that when he was hit w/ that same shot by Ward, the pain was such that between rds.,he told his Dad, "stop the fight, I might have a busted rib" (undefeated at the time ). it didn't happen, tho. Judah survived by dancing a while, and won, ribs in tact. you can see Gatti trying still, to deal w/ the pain here ,when he stands up .Mickey hurt several guys w/ that secret weapon.
Only Teddy would advertise the 5 best rounds in boxing history and end up giving us 15! This is why we love him.
Thanks Teddy for bringing back the true feelings memorys of Barry and his father singing Respect from ☘️🇮🇪🍀 Ireland 🙏
How lucky are we to be able to hear teddy atlas tell his stories
Aye. We are indeed very fortunate to be priviledged to have Teddy educate and entertain us. What a man. a Professor of Boxing par excellence.
Good to see Gatti Ward in there, not the most glamorous fighters but what heart and guts.
Po
True Warriors!
I remember watching this live at home. I just happened to tune in just as the fight started. I watched it and by round 5 you knew you were seeing something special. Round 9 is incredible. I think it's greatness is properly magnified when you know the history of Gatti and Ward and how many great fights they'd both already been in. This fight was boxing on its highest level where it transcended itself to place boxing hasn't seen since.
You’re god damn right, mate. 🍺🍺🍺
Just gotta say Teddy and Ken, it’s a great pleasure listening to u guys !!! Reminds me of talking w my grandfather about the fights back in the day, he passed 16 years ago, but when I hear u guys it brings me back ... Appreciate this channel so much !! Thank you 😊
My favourite podcast right now. Love hearing teddy talk about old fights/fighters, his knowledge of boxing is second to none.
Bye the Audiobook, it’s great to just listen to while busy doing stuff, especially shopping. Teddy reading it makes it more like a story being told instead of a book, he makes it personal. I never suggest anything about spending money but this is really worth it.
Thanks sooo much for the show guys This is exactly how we can continue to celebrate our love of boxing and great boxers while quarantined
Lyle vs. Foreman.
Marquez vs Pacquiao 4 last ett round.
Corrales vs. Castillo 1 last round.
Marquez was juiced to the gills.
Even Max Kellerman was suspicious.
Morales vs Barrera 1 round 7
CZcams search Terry Norris Vs Troy Waters
@@nickcaesar7650 I remember that fight! It was in my hometown at the San Diego sports arena!
Bowe vs Holyfield 1 round 10! Greatest round ever
The great , the legendary Teddy Atlas. Thank you guys for another episode ! I really enjoyed the insight on the atmosphere in Ireland. And the passion of being a fan , being one with the fighter. Amazing
I told me wifey, were going to the UK for a big fight.
Have to.
Thanks for this content during this time, we appreciate it, I know I do.
Corrales v. Castillo - R10; Hagler v. Hearns R1; Wilder v. Fury R12; Bowe v. Holyfield R10; Leonard v. Hearns R14
Bonus: DLH v. Quartey R12
Bowe v Holyfield rd 9
Bow vs Holyfield👍
Hagler vs Hearns R1 was insane 🍺🍺🍺
Just keep going and keep talking about boxing. It is such a pleasure to be able to sit at the same table and Listen to Teddy. And thanks Ken for being us and keeping him sharing in his own unique style
This is the only show I listen to. I read Teddy’s book ten years ago and highly recommend it. All the best!
thats about when i read it. its one of the best books ive ever read.... and ive read hundreds
This is the ONLY podcast I listen to.
Absolutely fantastic episode. Some great fights thrown in there. Chapeau!
Very touching teacher! Thanks Teddy and Ken!
The biggest omission here is the first round of Liston-Ali I. There are rare moments in sports where someone comes along and does something so special it stands entirely apart. The emergence of Babe Ruth. The run-scoring of Don Bradman on his first tour of England. The soccer player Diego Maradonna in his prime. Usain Bolt at the Beijing Olympics. The night a 22-year-old kid tore up the rulebook on heavyweight boxing and beat the most fearsome fighter in history.
Thxx teddy and ken for this great show and especially the story's !!
This was a tour de force.
Great work by Teddy Atlas.
I'm upvoting and subscribing.
My favourite historic round ever is Ali v foremans legendary eighth round regaining back his heavyweight title always sends shivers down my spine.. 🥊👑👏
shola ebofin 100 percent
Greatest thing I ever saw.
This is my favourite podcast. Love u teddy and your book is great, got me teared up.
Firpo was actually down 7 times in the first round and Dempsey 2. Firpo was down twice more in the 2nd!
Probably best heavyweight fight in history
I watch all of these, I'm a huge fan of this channel and its content. I don't know if you'll ever read this or what not, but I would love an episode about best defensive boxers, underrated boxers or for you to at least talk about Nicolino Locche, who is extremely underrated and never really mentioned. Thank you for providing content at times like these and I appreciate Teddy's and Ken's honesty on the sport of boxing.
Some of mine that I can still remember. Barrera v morales 1 all the rounds were great. Corrales v Castillo all the rounds were great but round 10 is an all time class. Gatti v ward 1 all the rounds WERE UNBELIEVABLE but round 9 is the GREATEST round I've ever seen. HOLYFIELD v Bowe 1 UNBELIEVABLE fight but round 10 is what BOXING is all about.
Some excellent choices. I'd also add Round 10 of Holyfield-Bowe.
I love it, 2 hours for 5 rounds, and worth every minute!
These is awesome! I love it how teddy described the fights . Found something to watch right now that we are in isolation.
Thanks gentlemen you have a great team bringing a little sunshine in these dark times sugar ray robinson tony zale had a number of battles too but imho louis v smelling was the most important fight in history stay safe fight fans love your families just lot my mum god bless
Best boxing show around.. more boxing history 👊
Thanks for sharing.. Teddy you are an absolute gent.. Love from UK
Pryor also admitted Argeullo gave him a good view of the rafter lights w/ an uppercut.
Hopkins was knocked out of the ring by referee Mills Lane while fighting Robert Allen and the fight was ruled a now contest
Great episode to revisit. I was reminded of Joe Louis and Billy Conn, Mcquigan, and the scandal of the tampered gloves done by P.Lewis. Thanks again Teddy and Ken.
I always love watching u teddy! Your passion and love of boxing is second 2 none and it really shows. . TRUE GOAL
GOAT
'Boxing was the biggest sport in the world, bigger than baseball' - Teddy Atlas

• Gatti-Ward 1: Rd 9.
• Hagler-Mugabi: Rd. 6.
• Hagler-Hearns: Rd 1.
• Forman-Holyfield: Rd. 7.
Spectacular #RGM
Teddy thanx for this video..amazing!!
42:35 - There is one round that might have altered the course of two careers more than the last round of Holmes - Norton.
The last round of Chavez - Taylor. Meldrick Taylor had that fight won. All he had to do was answer Richard Steele. He did not.
Meldrick Taylor was never the same afterward and really never had a big payday or a notable opponent other than the Terry Norris fight (which Taylor lost by TKO) and the rematch against Chavez in 1994 (which Taylor also lost).
After the second Chavez fight, Taylor did not fight again for twenty-three months. Taylor's record after the second Chavez fight was six wins and five losses.
Chavez went had two losses to Oscar, Tzuyu and some other notables, but made a load of money during the years after the March 17, 1990 first fight against Taylor.
If Taylor wins that fight, he earns a huge payday against Terry Norris or gets a rematch against Chavez.
The Clint Eastwood whistle was just terrible, 😂 luv these podcasts, teddy's been my hero since I was a kid, and still is today, perfect example of how a. Stand up guy should be, 👍
Re: Cassius Clay's knockdown. It wasn't the first time Ali was knocked down in his career as Teddy claimed, but the second. The first was also the result of a left hook, but delivered by Sonny Banks in 1962. And Dundee didn't buy Ali 5 or 7 minutes of time to recover, the gloves were never replaced, they were taped, buying Ali a total of about 8 extra seconds.
Gatti/ Ward is boxing personified. It never gets old the only fight I’ve ever watched where you’re rooting for both fighters about every 25 seconds you do you go from Gatti to ward. You can see each fighter changing their strategy and making small adjustments continually over and over I doubt it will ever be surpassed skill and will. Gatti For the most part was a one handed fighter for most of his career I own all of his fights on DVD. Breaks his hand five fights in a row. Gatti and ward will never be topped. Two of the best guys to ever do it
A good episode and Teddy picks my two favourites right off the bat. As to the Firpo Dempsey round there were multiple knockdowns in it. Many people think Demsey got knocked down once but there is a second that is always edited out, you see Demseys knee touch the canvas then he is back up (there is a film with it not cut out but the version with it edited is always shown). Firpo was a giant and a tough man who took quite a beating, he got up many times until it was just too much. Classic fight.
From Belfast love you know a lot about here teddy is a true legend
Great coverage teddys a mind of historical knowledge on boxing!!! And a great boxing coach obviously was a great fighter of the old school which was the best school. Good pod cast as well kenny you add validity to the true events good call... 🔥
Aarom Pryor. The greatest of all time and noone was ever like that man. A true gentleman also.
Pryor beat one great fighter and fought bums. You're insane.
I know its new so it doesnt have the lasting legacy. But AJ vs Klitschko was one of the best heavyweight fights of all time as was Fury Wilder 1.
Love the podcast guys, best boxing podcast by a mile.
Love from England.
Great story telling!!!! I was ab le to get 3 out of the first 5 and was happy about that. Be well everybody, be well.
Thank you Teddy. Thank you Ken. 👍
When this Great man passes, many warriors will be dressed in black with eyes full to over-flowing. Teddy, you are a Great Human Being, and a real Living Legend. God bless.
this is their best podcast yet
Why do we love this sport so much ...
I love Teddy, and I mean that. In the way that a Son could love his father.
I didn’t have a father and he decided to have no part in my elder brother’s life or mine.
Teddy loves and stands by truth...and that takes balls. If I could pick a father out of all the people I’ve met in my life so far... I’d choose Teddy. (I’m 46 by the way).
People forget how good Pedraza was as a fighter bad champion...and I remember wanting him to lose to anybody because me and my dad fumed at the gift decision he got against Rocky Lockridge....
thanks ken and teddy
Everyyyyyone who ever mentions Billy Collins and Resto only mentions that Resto took padding out of the gloves. At the end of the HBO documentary assault in the ring, Resto admits that he used so much plaster of Paris he couldn't open his gloves. Not only took the horse hair out. The worst part was the plaster of paris
I've not long known about teddy atlas but he sure is a awesome individual. His podcast partner seems cool too.
More an MMA fan but sure love combat sports in general and this is a good take
Also!! Thank You Teddy for mentioning the McGuigan vs Pedroza fight where “Danny Boy” was sung...McGuigan was the special advisor for my favorite ever boxing movie “ The Boxer” starring Daniel Day Lewis...there is a very moving club fight scene where “Danny Boy” is sung at the beginning of the fight in an unsuccessful attempt to bring peace to the rowdy, divided hometown crowd.
Love you guys
Listening to the podcast and the list of fights. Thank you for all that was mentioned. I would like to have included or worth a mention Azhmah Nelson vs Salvador Sanchez, Julio Ceaser Chavez KO of Meldrick Taylor in the final seconds of the fight, Duran vs Iran Barkley. I am sure there is more I can think of. Thank you for the great podcast.
Best episode ever.
Ken looked like a kid in the candy store while Teddy was describing all those fights, but so was I. Love this podcast keep it up!
Honorable mention.. Micky Ward vs Emmanuel Burton. Teddy called this action packed fight on FNF. Look it up.
Boy can Teddy talk!!! haha... love it
Hearing Teddy talk about Hope , reminds me how Great it is to be a Traditional Latin Catholic. Faith, Hope,Charity the 3 Theological Virtues.
, Teddy does a great Job explaining why we must not loose hope, God strips hope away from poeple in Hell , its a depressing though. THANKS Teddy
Hi guys, great show, absolutely love listening to Teddy analysis
Could I ask he he fancies giving his top ten Middleweights if of all time and why?
Kind regards
Martyn Sayle 😁
1:00:26 Teddy knows it best. The Thriller in Millinal is the greatest fight of all-time.
"The Thrilla in Manila"
I see what you did there 😂
Just an idea lads, really enjoyed this podcast but maybe teddy could do a list similar to this, it's slightly touched upon in this anyway but maybe great fighters through the years that maybe never reached the very very top but great fighters in their own right. Maybe a guy from each decade or something like that. A nice history lesson for fight fans, love the show lads keep it up. 👍
Carbahal vs Chekita Gonzales.
Teddy's a true fight scholar! Not the flash or show REAL FUCKIN FIGHTERS!
Before I watch it, only one fight comes to mind, Foreman-Lyle. There was the brutal toe to toe of Jeffries -Sharkey
Archie moor vs Yvon Durelle 1. Moor was felled three times in round one. Thats the round I pick. (and once again in round five, but then dropped Durelle in round 10 and won by a knockout in the 11th).
For me personally the only round I ever saw live that had me on my feet jumping up and down in my living room alone ....was rd 12 of Toney vs Jirov....for an exhausting Toney to finally floor Jirov with 15 seconds left after being pushed to his absolute limits was boxing mastery in its highest form!!
Just FYI to the podcast team in the chapter thumbnails, its Joe LOUIS. Joe Lewis was no slouch either, but was a karate champion.
Teddy por favor si podrias hablar de boxeadores argentinos! Me encantaria escuchar la opinion suya!
Resto subsequently recalls that he also had plaster of paris in his wraps.
I always say if the good die young Arturo Gatti proves that fight, it was incredible the ability and rising to the occasion ward showed in those fights. Arturo was great as well.
When atlas tells a joke I've already taken a hit.... When teddy makes a joke I do the same thing 😂🐺
This podcast is awesome. You guys should make some different styles of shirts, I'd buy a few to help support. Already bought the 36 minutes one.
I'll give a shout to Ray Mancini versus Art Frias. 1982 I think it was. WBA Lightweight title. It ended in the 1st round but it was a real war!
the fight with archie moore against durell teddy mentioned was pure insanity, one of those knockdowns archie suffered i believe the 2nd one, it looked like archie got shot with a 30 yard 6, he froze in mid air and landed the same, much like getting hit with a stun gun! people need to google that fight, incredible showing of how great archie moore really was.
Classsss as always you s 2 xx
I was part of Stevie Cruz’ camp and actually used to go back and forth to Belfast while scouting McGuigan. I remember we talking to Atlas once over there we were the only two Americans in the gym…it was a short conversation. He is right though the people showed out for McGuigan…but it’s crazy I can remember Teddy in Belfast.
Small world.
"Im happy if i can have a glass of wine in my backyard and no one comes over and punches my face" 🤣
Laird Hamilton is a surfing legend
We all love you Teddy!!!! But also would love so much if you or ken read this, and talk more one day about the golden era fighters! And maybe a little later.. Like more about jack Dempsey and or more so big time about Jim Braddock!! U have never mentioned him and would live to hear your thoughts about him! Also jake lamatta and rocky m and rocky g! Please please! Love you teddy one of your biggest fans here big time! Love ya too ken y'all keep the shows coming please! Friends and family love your stuff here! All the right stuff!
Teddy, We were at a time the greatest country , that is not really true anymore, and has not been for some time. That said , everything else that teddy said is spot on.
Round 1 of Moorer vs Cooper my favorite round ever.
Love u Teddy xxx
Expecting too see Ward vs Burton discussed in this video
I second that
