Definitely one of the weirdest blowout wins in bowl history. As a Penn State fan I just scratched my head and asked "did we really just win 42-17?" Tennessee just dominated the stats, but turnovers really did them in. Notice the two QB's who came in for garbage time, who just happened to be Heath Shuler and Kerry Collins, two future greats for their respective schools.
Neither of those teams were good though.. Notre Dame Miami and Tennessee were though. Although Penn State almost beat Miami who won the championship on the road they were both really good teams.
@@kev614 PSU beat Tennessee in the Fiesta Bowl. 42-17. Finished #3. Many Miami players. Who won the 1991 Natty. Said PSU. Was by far the best team they faced. They also kicked the shit out of Notre Dame that season. 36-13.
@@peterchon1179 I actually thought you guys would win it in 2017.. That year was so messy I think you were as good if not better than us and were a top 5 team. 2020 was a fluke you bounce back to 10-11 wins next season.
Do you have the 2007 Outback bowl between the same teams? "We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us, and you know, it showed." - Tony Hunt, PSU tailback........still my favorite sports interview
@@ravenking1822 Penn State didn't have Jurevicius or Enis. I think Florida beats them even with those two, but PSU never had a chance without them. The 1997 team's offense was built around those two.
Lot of people forget Penn State finished the season ranked #3 ahead of everyone but the Miami/Washington teams which famously shared the national title
This would be Penn State's last game as an independent team, they would join the Big 10 Conference the following year in 1993. They would finish 10-2 their 1st year and Penn State would face this same Tennessee team again in the CompUSA Florida Citrus Bowl where Penn State would again get the best of Tennessee by beating them by a score of 33-13. This game would set the tone for Penn State for the 1994 Season. In 1994 Penn State would pick up where they left off from the Citrus Bowl win over Tennessee, Penn State would go into Minnesota and crush the Gophers 56-3 and never look back. Penn State went on to cap a 12-0 Season & win a Big 10 and Rose Bowl Championship in 1994, It was only Penn State's 2nd year in the Big 10 Conference. 1992 Fiesta Bowl: Penn State 42 Tennessee 17 1994 Citrus Bowl: Penn State 33 Tennessee 13 1995 Rose Bowl: Penn State 38 Oregon 20
Penn State played the next season (1992 season) still as an independent. Their last game as an independent would be the ‘93 Blockbuster Bowl vs Stanford. (We lost 21-3.)
Weird game. Penn State had a really good team but I am surprised they whipped them the way they did in the second half. It's almost as if Tennessee quit when they fell behind.
Pickens was a beast. Best WR in his draft class. As a Bengals fan I was ecstatic to get him. I was even more delighted when his cancerous attitude was cut years later. Too bad as he was very similar to Cris Carter and was HOF capable despite having terrible Bs around him.
@@politicoswaff I have looked all over for classic NCAA games. It seems like collectors sites have dwindled over the last few years. I just always see Steelbuck doing edited games. That means he still have the original full games he edits from. Some of the games he has I have not been able to find anywhere else. Thanks for the info though. I appreciate it.
Like the game two months before this where Tennessee gave Notre Dame their biggest blown lead in their football HISTORY when they were down 31-7 late in the second quarter and came back to win 35-34? Like Tennessee, Notre Dame was loaded and had multiple future NFL players like Jerome Bettis, Rick Mirer, Tony Brooks, Aaron Taylor, Craig Hentrich, etc. If you've never seen it you definitely should watch it. Just search "Miracle at South Bend".

I miss the bowl format tv coverage from the late 80s early 90s.
Man watching postseason college football bowl games on free 📺 is so much more perfect than ESPN coverage
Very Good Nittany Lion squad. Finished #3. 11-2. And. This schedule. @USC, BYU, Miami, Bama, ND, Tennessee.

@@matthewkrafft9227 I agree. They could’ve been the best team in the country if they didn’t get upset by USC and played Miami in a neutral site game.
Ahh the days when psu was truly elite. Hope we can get back there

A rare coaching matchup- Johnny Majors vs Joe Paterno
Not really. Majors coached at Pitt. Paterno 4-1 against him.
Are you being sarcastic?

The 1994 team should have been playing Nebraska that year but they didn't.
Bizarre 2nd half and crushing loss.
Vols wanted it and were puttin' it to them until they got sloppy and let PS back in it. Then the Lions woke up.

Is there anyway to get the full games from DVD's that you make your no huddle games from? Thx:
There are several sites online where ppl post their vast collections. If you can find them I'm sure that you could acquire what you want.

Richie Anderson could fly.
Andy Kelly. The off brand Peyton Manning.
I wasn’t alive during his college career, but I remember him playing Arena FB. Was a pretty decent QB in the league

If I remember correctly they beat FSU in the Fiesta Bowl one year for the national championship. 1999 maybe?
