  • This week we tackled the interior disassembly of our 1976 Scamp Camper. The disassembly went farther than we originally thought it would, but we felt that it was the best option to make sure we can do all of the necessary repairs and put it back together correctly. This turned into somewhat of a careful "demo day". The flooring adhesive was no fun to get up, and we removed all but two of the cabinets in order to clean up the interior and patch and fix the fiberglass cabinets properly. Hopefully we will be able to "turn the corner" pretty quickly and get started on putting things back together in this camper renovation!
    We also removed the aluminum patch job on the damaged area we showed you in our walk around video.
    Next we will be moving the Scamp into the shop where we can continue the work on it, and work on removing the windows and performing fiberglass repairs!! Lots of work ahead, we are kind of going backward at the moment, but we want to make sure we get all the issues fixed so we don't have any surprises later.

    I realize this is an old video, but just wanted to say, that your child "helping" in high speed was adorable.

    I'm giving a 1990 scamp 13 a new heartbeat myself . I've had soo much fun with the project . 1st was new axle n tires , so I could get it to my house . Fiberglassing and interior second along with new electric and propane hardware . Seeing this thing coming together really excites me . I'm pushing to use it mountain biking this spring for starts . I really enjoyed your video of the teardown . Thanx

    I meant you on Meant 2 Be RVing Livestream. I can't wait to see the finished project. I love watching old RVs get restored back to their natural beauty. So they can be enjoyed some more

    That's going to be a great little camper! With a little (or a lotta) love.

    If you get the chance, moving your water tank to the front will help prevent swaying when full. The placement of the tank in the rear corner was a design flaw.

      Thanks. I’ll have to see if the tank will fit under the front bench. May be a space issue there. But we will be adding some other things up front that hopefully may help!

    Your Scamp is going to be great when your done, vintage RVs are great I have a 68 airstream 20 ft Globetrotter , the old ones were built right and very light weight compared to modern trailers. I met you at Meant to be Rving tonight

      Hey thanks a lot. Mary would love to do an Airstream or something like that, but I convinced her we should start with something a little smaller! Thanks for coming by!

    That poor little camper has had a rough life. I'm glad you're bringing it back to life. Hey, that roof vent is one of a kind! Hope you got some new friends today on the live stream chat. :)

      Thanks Johnny Clyde. I haven’t posted any videos for over a month but I’ve been working on the repairs that aren’t real exciting, so progress is still happening! Should have an update coming soon.

    I bet that fiberglass damage was from a tire failure. I plan to spend good money on tires for the uhaul camper we are restoring

      Ha yeah funny you should mention that. I bought this trailer from someone I know, it's been "in the family" for over 20 years. So I asked the other day, and the big hit on the door side was a stump he didn't see while backing up. The one on the other side was one of the jacks that used to be on the rear bumper accidentally dropping down and getting bent up. into the fiberglass while towing. But yes these fiberglass campers can take a lot of damage when a tire comes apart. I haven't focused much effort there yet but we will be getting a new axle, wheels, and tires before it's all over. Thanks for watching. Good luck on your restoration! We will have an update on our progress coming soon.

    Does Scamp make restoring kits for their vintage campers?

    • @GarageMisadventures
      @GarageMisadventures  Před 3 lety +1

      No not really. They sell some parts, some have changed through the years, so some work with the older models and some don’t. Some things are better off getting elsewhere. But you more have to buy individual parts as needed, and depending what you need, from Scamp or from other websites mostly.

    I want to redo my toilet as a composting or incinerator.i like having a shower but not a toilet waste of water what do you think

    • @GarageMisadventures
      @GarageMisadventures  Před rokem

      Honestly I don’t have any experience with either of those options, but they sound like they might be good options with less plumbing involved. Good luck!
