  • This is my tried and true method of removing a Spyderco lanyard tube that I have performed countless times. If you encounter a difficult to remove tube don't force anything and take your time working it out, but I have yet to run into a lanyard tube that couldn't be removed with this method.

That's a great trick Tom. Boy do I hate lanyards and lanyard tubes.

Great trick Tom thanks. I got stuck recently because I have one of those removal cubes and couldn't find it. Damn do I hate lanyards and lanyard tubes.

This looks a lot easier compared to how I used to remove them. I just ordered a few Flytanium replacement tubes and installed them after removing the pressed stock tubes with a multitool :-) So, I still have a few old all scratched up original tubes laying around. haha

I do it this way because you showed us this trick a while back. I was mindblown. another way that takes longer is stick the wiha through the tube from the g10 side and then just gently lever the tube up and down. it will get to the point where you can just push it and wiggle it out with your fingers.

This works great as long as the lanyard tube isn’t flared out super far. I had a maxamet seconds para 3 that the tube took an actual chunk of the g10 out when I did it and then I had to grind the tube down just to get it out of the liner. That said, I don’t think there would’ve been any way to get that tube out of the g10 without doing damage. Lately it seems like spyderco has been pretty careful not to flare them out too far which is nice. I also noticed on the SMKW fat carbon exclusives it wasn’t flared at all, which I assume was to avoid cracking the CF but it made for a super easy disassembly/reassembly. I’ve always been curious to know how Spyderco’s warranty department gets the tube out, like do they have a delicate press or are they just poppin liners the Millie Club way!
