Hey I have a question my honda trx 300ex when I click the button I hear the clicking on the solenoid but it wont start sometimes could it be that the starter is bad or the solenoid
@@matthewsizemore3701 I think that it is more likely to be the solenoid, depending on the starters age. Solenoids are pretty cheap, I’d recommend you start with that.
@@matthewsizemore3701 do you have 12 volts on both terminals of the solenoid?
It starts for me it's just sometimes it doesn't want like turn over I guess like all I hear is the clicking then the starter starts to work and it turns on so I need to replace the starter?
I have one and love it, it should be easier to hold a wheelie longer than a 400ex. Most common issue is a couple water pump seals

you should really get yourself some electrical contact cleaner instead of using WD40 for everything

My buddy had 1 of these a few years back. Wasn't the fastest thing around but it was a lot of fun on the trials.
What makes these bikes great is there’re exactly the same as the Kawasaki, Suzuki, artic Kat. So parts are easy to find.

you add the coolant in the overflow tank its on the left and it was empty
I have a 06 dvx 400, great quad it’s just the swingarm is cracked and the center plastics are cracked. If you ever think about parting it out I’d take some parts!! Great video!

Looks similar to mine , except mines bedlinered! Parts are easy to get , same engine as the LTZ400 and KFX400. Overall great machines.

Yes I agree I have a 2005 kfx400 same engine 100% great engine except the swimming has to be done every 2 years or so
Ecdc 04 it is supposed to click after a cold start until they are warmed up if it still does after its warmed up then the valves might have to be adjusted
@@ecdc0432 My engine is pretty quite as of now. Just rebuilt and restored it this year though.
@@ecdc0432 mine has a tick in it just before its time to shim the valve.
Those Ambush tires are good. I run them on my 400EX. They have great bite when they are new.

im pretty sure the small lever is a hotstart , connects to carberator for when the bike is hot.

Been watching for years
You should be using Deoxit to clean your electrical contacts. Its simply the best corrosion cleaner. Not exactly cheap but for sale on ebay. Deoxit is magic. I use it on my cb radios pots. Take the starter off and lube it up that usually works wonders. Use lithium grease not wd40 it evaporates quickly.

Now that you have a compression tester.... Has anyone told you need to have the throttle completely open to get an accurate reading
I have a ltz400 (same as dvx). Mine had no compression when I got it, did the valves and runs great now. Fun quad tho. Btw stock swingarms are garbage and frames are also known to crack above the front shock mounts. Also trx450 front shocks bolt right in. Get rid of the pogo stick shocks that come on 03 and 04s

Its a suzuki ltz 400 with arctic cat logos and plastics. Suzuki made them for Kawasaki, and arctic cat for three years. If you look at the sticker on the bottom of the frame it says made by suzuki I believe they made them from 04 to 07 if I'm not mistaken. The only thing different on the kawi and the Dvx are the plastics and headlights. Everything else is a suzuki ltz 400. Engines are pretty much bullet proof.
You have to watch with these bikes that the valves don’t get tight and you keep driving it. The cam sprocket are pressed onto the cam shaft and it will spin on the shaft and throw off the timing.
Yeah seems like the valves get tight pretty quick on these machines.
Can u weld it. Or tack it in a few spots
@@ronniewilliz153 when it happened to mine. I replaced the cam, I’m sure you could but I wasn’t sure if it would throw it off or pull the sprocket towards one side making it crooked.
my buddy had a ltz 400which is really the same thing . thing was awesome all around reliable .
also you can jump the bike by bridging the solenoid bolts and that will help determine the starter or button also.

It’s the exact same thing as an Ltz and a kfx just different plastics previous owner of mine put Ltz plastics on my Dvx looks way better

Get a yfz450 next
I had to change out the shims on mine also. The only way I could start it was from rolling it. After that it ran fine and idled fine. After the shim change it starts fine but will not idle without the choke on. Did the changes I did make this issue or is the carb dirty. I didn’t have any idle issue before the adjustment.
You will have to buy a shim kit and re shim the valves to spec it’s really easy. Just did it on my ltz. Mine would not start at all when they went out of spec
This is the same thing as a LTZ 400. Parts are interchangeable. 400ex is a bit different lol

My friend has one that won’t start cranking with the starter but if you pull it and push it it’ll start but if it stalls you gotta pop start it again. It wants to cut out sometimes. Do you think it’s the valves?

Was the emergency brake lever taken off of the clutch perch? If so the clutch pull start had to be spliced.
I have one LTZ 400 2005 and i rebuild the all motor and its a nice machine with Léo vince lx3 exhaust.
In that motor you have 2 cams and the TRX only have 1 cam
trx is also older technologie if im right. ltz came way later to compete with the trx400
2vintage,,,, you should get a 2009 Polaris predator 525 independent rear suspension, the quads are probably one of the best ones built for racing and mud!

Had an '08 irs and it was fast and seemed more stable but for some reason only a few pounds less this kfx 400 seems lighter. Call me crazy

Looks like a nice ltz in the backround
If they are tight sand them down, if you couldn’t get a .05mm feeler in there take them out. Measure them, sand off.05mm then reinstall. Repeat till your in spec, just take your time or you will have to buy shims, either way it’s a guessing game since you couldn’t get a feeler gauge under it to see what your starting out at.
Would think it would be tile the 400ex where the carb pumps a little shot of gas into the cylinder when you hit the throttle idk if it’s on this carb but if it is maybe the plunger is bad & isn’t pumping that shot into the carb ? My 400ex starts on the coldest days because of that I just hit the throttle of few times like a old carbureted car & it fires right up lol

On some quads, you have to pull in the break leaver to start it. When you pull the break in it finishes the connection and allows the starter to crank over. it wont even crank over sometimes if the break isn't pulled in. The wire might be screwed up.
Yeah I checked that. That is a very common problem on most of these quads.

Did you have the throttle wide open while you compression tested it because if you didn’t it will cause a low reading

To check oil properly you let quad idle for 3 minutes then shut off for 3 minutes to check it properly. Holds 2200 mL with filter change. Drain oils from engine and reservoir tank

I ride a dvx to activate reverse there is a nob on the right where your knee is but mine in on my handle bar but it should be Near your right knee or leg

Just bridge the 2 solenoid wires to check starter check the voltage to the solenoid by voltmeter connected to plug with the button pressed would take 2 minutes to diagnose
There a lot like a 450. If u put a set of good cams. Exaust. And intake. And 39mm fcr carb and hi comp piston

I've raced a DVX 400, with my YFZ450, there's no comparison at all the DVX couldn't keep up with my YFZ.

& like someone else said just buy some Maxima Electrical contact cleaner and use that shit for everything beside your paint of course LOL. Once you use that shit you'll go through cans a month the nozzle pressure is just so convenient for cleaning. And it can be sprayed anywhere with no I'll effect (beside paint lol)

sometimes when the starter clicks like that you can take a 10 mil or what ever the size of the bot that connects power to it and move it around and it will also work
Is that duct tape on the air intake to the carburetor
I have a 04 Kawasaki kfx and the connections under the fender on the right side are in a bad place and they are known to come apart

Look into a cylinder leak down tester. Might save you some time in the future.
Those swing arms like to crack around the weld, near the hole in it. Last two I've had were broke.

When I did a valve shim job on my predator that was just a headache
The moter doesn't sound good turning over I noticed the first turnover but ya I have my assumption but I could be wrong ..good luck
