    David Wayne Elson died January of this year. I think he deserved so much more.

    This dramatically illustrates how critically important preventive care is and how wasteful it is to wait for the uninsured to visit the emergency room with problems that have exploded in magnitude.

    This is such a sad story. I'm glad I live in Canada where our health care is taken care of.

      quarry creek LOL- Exactly. I live in Canada and our health care system is pretty good as long as you don't mind the long waiting times, that's the problem. I had to wait 9 months for an MRI. If my condition had worsened I would have flown to the States and paid for it myself. That's what they don't tell you. It's just like the Veterans in the States who died waiting for surgeries. That happens quite a bit in Canada.

      quarry creek Jasonjjw west I never said the Canadian system was perfect. When it comes to surgery, there can be long wait lines. Thankfully I've never been a position to need such care. However I know that it costs nothing to go to a doctor and get checked out. By costs nothing, I mean that I don't have to pay anything upfront to be diagnosed with a condition.

      quarry creek Again, I didn't say that the system was perfect. Yes, I know that I pay for it through my taxes, but I've also been so poor that I was receiving welfare from the government and was making so little that I didn't pay any taxes and I still didn't have any trouble going to the doctor. There were no emergency room fees, no doctor's visit fees, I had the costs of most of my medications covered. How many Americans can say they were in my financial position and didn't have any medical fees?
      I'm well aware that there are better systems out there like the British system, but I'd rather pay taxes for medical care in Canada then have to pay through the nose like the man in this documentary did in America.

      quarry creek No, but when you receive social assistance, they don't take taxes off what you receive. Yes, I bought some stuff and paid HST on some but not all the things I bought. I also received most of my food from food banks, which is given freely.

    • @IamTheBuckethead
      @IamTheBuckethead Před 9 lety +1

      quarry creek I NEVER claimed it was free, ONLY that I didn't have to PAY UPFRONT. That my HEALTH came first before getting paid. I and no individual person is going to be going bankrupt because they can't pay their medical bills. There are no bill collectors calling over medical bills. I don't get denied service because I have unpaid bills.
      I'm not arguing that I didn't pay for it in some way or that there weren't costs involved or that taxes. Only that HEALTH trumps MONEY in our system. THAT'S what I prefer over the American system.

    I hope by making this documentary he is compensated well and help him offset some of his medical costs. It is an educational program that is extremely informative, and he is up there exposing his vulnerability and peeling off his scars for people to see, I hope he gets paid well! He needs the money!

    PEOPLE DONT KNOW, the adverse effects of unhealthy habits until they see these type of videos or read about them. this should be done right at school. SCHOOLS SHOULD TEACH KIDS WHY AND HOW TO DEVELOP HEALTHY HABITS, SINCE KEEPING HEALTHY, HELPS IN SAVING MORE MONEY BY SPENDING LESS ON HEALTHCARE. KEEPING HEALTHY ALSO MEANS YOU ARE HAPPY

    I think I would be happy to let a portion of my income go toward supporting universal healthcare, but under the condition that the patients agree to sign a contract to stay physically active and eat healthy. I am on my journey to pursue a career in medicine myself and I really wish to address health disparities. My dad, a 1st generation immigrant, is healthy overall maybe because he stays physically active and we have overall good genes in my family. He is over 60 but he likes to eat junk food, such as donuts and ice cream, and he also likes to eat a lot of meat. So recently, based on the lab report, his A1C, blood pressure, and cholesterol have been high. he worked on staying healthy for a while and then resorted to eating unhealthy stuff. He is buying all the junk food and putting them at home, and when I talked to him, he said he was not afraid of dying. Can you believe it, just because he is asymptomatic now he thinks he is invulnerable? I am very disappointed he has such a love for junk/unhealthy food. I only eat healthy stuff and I feel my dad is almost a hopeless case (not entirely because he does not smoke or drink) and a bad example of self-indulgence. Although he is asymptomatic now and does not cost any money, he does not like preventive care, and would not want to get a colonoscopy...he implied he is afraid of this simple screening procedure because a female friend told him it was very uncomfortable. So I feel for people like my dad to get affordable health insurance without paying a crazy cost, they should be committed to preventive care and a healthy lifestyle. This gentleman does not have a lot of support and I feel very bad for him, but my dad has the family support, and he knows the consequences of not eating healthy but still does so, so I feel people like my dad should seriously have to pay a huge fee to compensate for their behavior, for if he does not alter his eating habit it is just a matter of time he will be sick.
