(ps, I was here before Google was... ) Collab with Paragraphic & Sugarshack Music... both have said this I am pretty sure...
@@waleejahi2 It is in the lower end of the description, buddy. đ€ (also he has the same handle here, as there) I cannot post links or ironically, my post will not show to you (only me)
Hi Matti
Te admiro muchoooo
@@dertythegrower oh everytime I click the link it says âthis page is unavailableâ. Thanks tho!
Itâs crazy this video came on my feed. I graduated with a film degree 2 years ago and due to covid and other obstacles, I was never able to peruse filmmaking full time. Now that Iâve gone a couple of years without it, and working jobs I hate, this video reminded me of what I wanna do and learn more about. Thanks for that, Matti.
đđ» keep it going man
Go for it , I'm in a similar situation. 3 years doing nothing because of the world turning upside down, and now the feeling is coming back. Got to get on it and ride it.. good luck man
You could had done CZcams for yourself.
I too was in a spot of graduating just as pandemic started. Though I was reached out to in 2021 to be apart of a feature as an AC and it just kicked off from there. I still don't even work full time in film. But you just gotta put yourself out there. Find people working on projects and volunteer for free at first. Just gets you more connections and leads to more jobs. A lesson I learned is that I put my full time job first and if I had time say yes to projects. That set me behind though so I quit that job and while I wait for other film jobs just do part time. The other thing is when you cannot find people doing projects make one on your own. Grab a camera and just start shooting.
@@light_to_love_productions Looks like we're all experiencing the same thing
I was just at my local film festival and I watched some beautiful narrative and documentary films. When looking at their work, none of them are spending much time on social media or CZcams. They're out living their lives, working on sets, collaborating to produce original work versus just being another voice in an echo chamber. They were so inspiring and helped me realized where I need to spend my time as it's so precious.
that's one of the strategies, social media is extremely important as well for a filmmaker nowadays. Christopher Nolan promotes his film on TikTok, it speaks volumes.
Matti I feel you hit the nail, not only for filmmaking or youtube but for life. We're so used to the instant gratification nowadays that we forget we need to develop the stamina needed to accomplish our goals. I'm almost done with a book called "Discipline equals freedom" from Jocko Willink and I've been talking to my close circle about this thing. We don't feel motivated or excited about our goals every single day, but through discipline we keep doing what's needed to accomplish those goals. Even when we don't want to do a task.
maybe stop reading books written by nut job ex-soldiers.... maybe.
Feel really similar here, started off making movies / After Effects special effects scenes for fun, then started on CZcams and camera reviews... Now slowly pulling my focus and resources back around to my original passion đ
Love that you're taking time off to spend with the family! What a crazy life we get to live to do that. I hope it's amazing, dude!
Somehow both you and Danny are always saying what I need to hear to help me keep going. Thank you Matti
Couldn't agree more Matti! Thanks for sharing and great meeting you at NAB!
I feel like the word here is focus. Focus on what drives you to make films and let the discipline, passion, and obsession drive you.
I donât always dig your videos but I end up enjoying the message. Iâm excited to see where your drive takes you.
Lol... I felt so happy for you when you showed your camera like a little kid with a new toy. Very inspiring.
I love that you are talking about obsession. Being obsessed often comes out as a bad trait and can be perceived negatively. But you are right, obsession is the key for putting the hard work and discipline needed for success. Thanks for sharing.
I am currently losing my obsession in filmmaking because the way we create is changing so badly. almost everything is sort form content nowadays. when watching a big movie on the big screen I am so inspired but after I look at instagram my obsession is gone. fighting against it but its a hard fight! but to keep it positive, I am working on my own projects that I love. I am doing it alone without any budget but that makes me creative and creative makes it interesting.
Both are different markets. Choose what inspires and stay in that lane.
I really love the fact that you share not just about the work you're doing but also about your personal life and family.
It makes us connect & relate to you even on a personal level. â€
Never stop doing that. đ
Thanks for the family update. We miss the family. Glad to hear they are doing as great. All the best to Kai with his school.
They are doing great đ đđ»
Yes đ CZcamsrs phase 2 - high quality films and entertainment - canât wait to see it
I'm so stoked to see what your gonna create post youtube, I know that the big screen is in your future man!
I needed to hear this message so badly right now. Thank you for making this video Matti!
resolve obsession is a legit a real thing and I can't stop discovering things in that software
So helpful for me as I have been trying to pick a path over the last 10 years. Being a creative, I am constantly chasing every shiny new creative outlet and have struggled to focus on anything long enough to reach real success. Iâm going to focus on finding my obsession. Many thanks!
Love it Matti!
I have been watching you since like 2017. One of the very first channels I started to watch, and still one of my very favourite channels to this day. No matter how much I love the work you put out, and how much the selfish part of me never wants you to stop making videos, the rest of me is sooooo happy for you that you are taking a sabbatical. I took a sabbatical the last 12 months to heal from trauma and there is nothing better at all. It heals. It slows time. It is incredibly beautiful and I really hope itâs that for you!
No problem with your ramblings ahah, we also follow you for who you are and it's nice to hear from you! ;) I'm obsessed with filmmaking right now so I'm going back to learning and creating! ^^
Oooh yesss you better be taking advantage of that đđ»
Best colours I have seen in a while
đđ» still need to dial them in more
video got me feeling inspired! thank you Matti
Met you at the âI think Iâm sickâ private screening NYC it was great to get some knowledge from you it sparked a new drive in my film making
Thank you Matti. You;ve rekindled the fire in me. Especially since I work professionally for a events and production studio, I feel I've lost sight of my personal longterm projects. I will get back into the filmmaking space.
Heck yea đđ»
Great vid and just what I needed to hear right now! Thanks Matti
Great question! Consistency in a lot of things for sure!
Love you are going to the next step! Funny, I feel your energy as you say you are going to the next level with filmmaking and I have that same feeling diving into the youtube side of things!
Thanks Matti! Gotta keep on creating meaningful content - no matter what.
I don't know much about you but the window kind of made a really good fill light for this video and I just love it.
Oh my god! That video just came at the exact right time! Especially the last couple sentences.
I'm getting way to comfortable being an AC but actually want to be an DP...worked so much for it but the obsession died so I need to get it back together!!
Iâm currently trying to start a channel about photo/video using your phone and itâs only because of you , Teppo and Pete. Iâve discovered a passion that I wouldnât have ever known about if not for the three of you.
that's how we feel about you for people trying to be CZcams creators, haha! Great insight, love the direction you're taking the channel!
LOVE the update! dude grow your hair out! i grew mine and kept it long for 5 years its such a personal challenge growing it out, you'll come out of it the otherside a stronger person! :D
Shot bro! Family is what matters! Take a break and dont look back! I always say apart from family, everything is up for grabs. Nothing is more important. I took 3 months at the end of 2022 when I finshed a six year stint on staff at a church doing films and production. Probably not long enough but it was so good haha! Now its time to actually remember what its like to be an actual filmmaker and set my goals high!
You got this man! You are going to love it. Even having the goal will make this year so much sweeter for you!
This video was perfect timing! đȘđœ
Thanks for the inspiration!
FINALLY! A CZcamsr has understood the difference between "making videos for CZcams" and being a "filmmaker".
CZcams is weirdly full of so-called "filmmakers", who are really ..... people with fancy cameras, making videos and tutorials for other people with fancy cameras ..... calling themselves (incorrectly) "filmmakers". There is a huge difference, glad a CZcamsr with over 1 million subscribers finally understands this!
Thanks for sharing your happiness man!
Amazing video.. thanks Mattiâ€
Nice man. I just got the feeling back after 3 years of doing nothing. I got the DJI Ronin 4D and I'm getting used to it now..
Resolve is a good move, I've been on it since resolve 15.
Well done Matti, I hope the energy stays and grows.
Great words of encouragement. I'm currently working on my biggest project ever. Probably bit off a bit more than I can chew. But it's coming along.
Really needed to here this
In a nutshell, the greats do it when they *donât* feel like it. *Especially* when they donât feel like it. But the beauty is, the feeling always follows action, so you only need to move, and the feeling will return.
Cool! Thanks for sharing it. âïž
needed this
And I want to see you doing bigger things, trying new things, trying stuff that is scary. Life is short. Don't let it be boring! You got this Matti - behind you 100%!
MOO đź Milk that Filmmaking Cow đđ€Ł Filmmakers are all eccentric crazy folks and I LOVE IT. †Storytelling through film is such an awesome medium to bring people together it is Fantastic. Great video mate đđ»
What do you do about the feeling of everything being so easy to accomplish? Phone are getting so good and then there is AI and everything, how do you rise above that and feel that excitement?
I think you are right. Lately I have become a little bit obsessed with flying FPV and one of the great pilots put it well on why he is so good: he is not good, he just has been grinding more than most. And to be able to grind you have to be obsessed I think.
Just the video I needed today..... I've been back and forth with obsession, video creation has been a side job from my regular 40h/week job. Now leaving the 30 year long retail job to do this full time and get back into it. The passion is alive again like it was 15 years ago when I worked on the side helping produce local PBS shows......
Lovely video :)
Thanks man đ good seeing you at the screenings â€ïž
Film making for me is such an obsession that itâs in my dreams.
personal connections do help and teamwork.
Obsession + Focus = Genius
No problem matti ...the vedio start at 3:16
Thank you!
I would also add that taking breaks is super essential both to your mental health but also to your professional trajectory (which runs a little contrary to the work super obsessively narrative). Giving yourself permission to have space to grow and reflect, just like you are doing with the sabbatical. I'm certain that during your break you will have new revelations about what your filmmaking journey is and where you want to take it from there.
Hahaha for some reason I never settle on calling it DaVinci or Resolve, I just use them interchangeablyđ Loved this video Matti!
Right??? Iâm so confused
this video helped me think... i gave my carrer some thought. and i'm really opening up here:
i think all my equipment gets in the way. i might need to take some steps back, get rid of all my old used lenses and just get a 24-70 lens.
i just stumble in problems like: my feelworld monitor keeps overheating and troubling me mid shoot.
i need to accept more the cheap jobs i often reject and build a new and more consistent portfolio and a more stable income so i don't get frustrated when i go for like a month without a job.
i need to focus more on my marketing. i often spend all my "marketing energy" with my clients and give nothing to myself.
i'm tired of being frustrated so i'm going to make it happen.
thanks for this video, matti
I like the honesty of the video, talking about losing and regaining interest is pretty down to earth -> refreshing. I get the passion thing, really important, and then you lose the passion and it becomes work for 10 years until you are passionate again and working on the right things. So here is my question, the amateur has the most fun clearly..how do you reconcile the amateur's empty cup and thirst for learning with the professional's profile? We are all clearly someone else's amateur :)
Other than pure obsession over the art form, I think there is something else that is paramount to moving forward in the industry that is making people stand out more and more every day. It is also something that is being lost with the way camera technology is moving. That is the understanding of light. It's characteristics, how to shape it, and how it reacts with your camera. Technology is allowing people to put less effort into lighting a scene while still maintaining properly exposed images. At the same time though, it also makes it easier to see when minimal effort is put into it. This is what separates pretty images from a cinema camera and cinematic video. If you can manipulate light properly, you will go much farther in your career. Clients will notice despite not knowing why and other filmmakers will commend you for your work. Of course this only applies to people wanting to become cinematographers. Morale of the story is: Learn how to light properly because no matter how much DR your camera has or how good the color science is, what makes the difference in the way your work is seen is how you light your image.
Great thoughts Max! Itâs true
Video starts at 03:12 and ends at 04:42. Much love though!!
The milk part kinda wild too.
Thanks, you saved me a lot of time. One word stretched into 11 minutes pure silly. The thumbnail is just as bad.
@@TomasRamoska What's the problem with the thumbnail?
â@@soundscape26 it basically says buy an Alexa to be "pro", he is obsessing over gear even after telling people for years that gear doesn't matter.
@@StephenHerron Ah ok, I didn't explore that angle.
Yes, his "gear doesn't matter" message has always conflicted a bit with how many gear he promoted throughout the years.
The gift that keeps on giving, if you are working with somebody no matter the field, and they are "obsessed" with something then run far and run fast, obsession is toxic and has nothing to do with skill or success, the sooner this guy "takes a break" from CZcams the better.
Currently reorganising my entire life so I can get back to being obsessed with music and film so this totally resonates with me °)
It's important who you know. Get hired on productions assisting any way you can. Meet people. Keep creating what you enjoy most -- writing, directing, cinematography, and give it 8 years.
Let's go longn hair!! We will miss you wehen you stop YT â„
Full ove from Quebec
Aw man I didnât get to run into at NAB đą hope you enjoyed it i met so many creatives đ
Thanks broo đ
I like hearing about your renewed interest in filmmaking! Let's get out there in 2024 and create something meaningful? ;)
Missed you
Video starts at 0:00 for those of you who want the quality content.
Thomas Manning from Epic Light Media once said "you cant do filmmaking and have hobbies at the same time". And I can totally see that. Even when I did music, I didn't make it because I wasn't "obsessed" enough. I didn't have that same drive to practice 4 hours a day every day and learn new songs and write new songs because it felt overwhelming.
đ€đžđ„
I have a big question :) I bought your title packs and Luts for premiere ... is there any chance to make it work for DaVinci? It would be great if I could use it there to without buying it again :) I was rally happy with this stuff
Don't forget money (gear) and luck (being at the right time and place or a networking opportunity) play a big role too
funny hearing this on the same week I lost all my motivation to do filmmaking
i think theres a shift slowly being introduced on youtube where creators are kinda getting bored of new product releases since features are a bit stagnate for now. hence why alot are just migrating to posting fewer videos, but of things they want to create and produce more meaningful work
That along with the algorithm being a bit weird right now. I think most people are just kinda tired of trying to play the game of CZcams. And instead just wanna go back to why they started in the first place
Promoting DaVinci Resolve endlessly the exception
Hey, could you do another video on Canon vs Sony updated for 2023? Or is the 2021 video is still relevant?
Iâve been filming wedding full time for the past year now. While I loved it in the beginning, because I thought it was so cool to be making a living from a camera in my hand, Iâve been wanting more and more to do something bigger. I want to make my own films, create my own stories, instead of telling others. Iâm finally getting that opportunity soon. Iâll be starting a job with a real estate media company shooting house full time. While it may seem like a step backwards, it will only be 40 hours a week instead of every available second like filming weddings is, giving me more time for personal projects.
Most genius is just practice

Raw Talent plays a key role.

1:45 Aussie Resolve user here. We call it "Resolve" for short.
Great video Matti! Glad to see you are going 100% in Resolve. Maybe my channel and videos will help you along the way. đ Keep doing what you are doing man, great stuff!
It's an interesting question - but I do think in the YT space people equate 'filmmaking' with cinematography and the various equipment associations - so the craft aspect of filmmaking. I think a bigger part of filmmaking is the spiritual aspect of discovering inspiration and learning to trust and harness your creative instincts. If you're lucky enough to work with a crew they will often free up that space for you through their technical expertise etc.
Hi, Matti. I'm the guy from the NY movie screening who asked whether you'll be making a movie of your own in the next couple of years. Anyway, I just watched The Fabelmans and I'm curious to know if you've watched it and whether you can relate to the main character.
Ahađ, now I understand why you bought the Alexa. Cool adventure!
hi Matti watch you from France
Honestly I started CZcams with ZERO plans to do tutorials or product reviews. All I want to do is learn how to tell compelling stories and Iâm obsessed with learning my gear and all the techniques to help me do that. Because when I do that, Iâm being true to myself and as my skills grow, so does the response.
What does successful actually mean? To have a lot of subscribers on youtube or perhaps to have won a prize or two at a festival or simply be satisfied with what you do and love âmake filmsâ đđ„ CZcams is a platform for me to show my films, but i don't get the hype about clicks and subscribers. Ultimately everyone has to define their own goals đ
Def dicipline. Id be doin good if i went a week not crashin fcp w64 g ram on macbookđ if not crash cursor movin 1in aday w 4tb project exceeding 8tb of render and cache i guess then render for a week wich was good then shared to compressor for 3days wich failed. Im noob for 15 yearsđ. Can divinci resolve this? THANKS
Yo Matti, what skates did you have on that shelf?
Money... if you have money already.. or come from a wealthy family.., you probably have the time to completely invest in yourself instead of tapping out and submitting to working something consistent for survival even if you hate it
Cause SOME of them clickbait people and curl them throughout the entire video without actually answer the question. Ainât that right, Matti Haapoja?
Yeahhh

Maybe you don't need a sabbatical. Perhaps a new office space? Changing your environment oftentimes gives you a new perspective and new energy. We like hearing from you.
