The Black Cauldron is literaly the only Disney movie that could actually benefit from being remade. It had lot of potential but was ruined by some ridiculous plot-points, overuse of annoying comic-relives, and uninteresting main characters.
Maybe perhaps Disney would treat the Prydain Chronicles right the next time around.
I disagree. The issue was the censorship that severely handicapped the film, scenes were cut, and the Horned King had little to no presence.

Well. Because The horned king was THE ONLY good thing in the film.
The book was actually good. Disney, as usual, botched the whole thing.
The Black Cauldron trade was a rip off. It was able to make a army of undead.
The Prydain chronicles (black cauldron was the second book in the series) were awesome. Disney did them dirty with that subpar movie.

The Black Cauldron is one of the most legendary "Disney" vault movies ever produced and although it was very underrated and not as popular as the higher Disney princess's.
Princess Eilonwy. If anyone is a True Disney fan... They would know this princess at the back of their hands. The Black Cauldron was not acknowledged enough by the Disney cooperation as they thought it would instill fear among kids, Because of the Horned King, The Promotion of Tragedy, Death... Sacrifice. So on... However, As a personal Disney fan + I would immediately recommend you watch it.
In one of those recent cute Mickey Mouse shorts Disney's been putting on youtube, there's this one where he needs change for a tollbooth, and when he's digging under his car seat frantically looking for car change, you see that amidst all the dust and debris under there is a VHS cassete labeled "The Black Cauldron". I cracked up.
It's okay , Eilonwy. Your book series is infinitely better than the Disney adaptation...

Poor princess Eilonwy, she don't get any love. Disney didn't really give her the props she deserved. In the books, she was a magic-user and an archer, and an all-around interesting character.
Fun bit of trivia, she was originally supposed to have a bathing scene where Taran saw her. It was never animated, and I'm sure it would have given Disney their first R-rated animated feature rather than their first PG-rated one.
