Very informative and easy to understand. Thank you so much! I’m new to the aquarium hobby and definitely a beginner. I won two comet goldfish two weeks ago and currently have them in a 29 gallon tank. Once I move in a few months I’ll be upgrading them to a 55 gallon. My starter kit came with a HOB filter but it was nice to see a canister filter setup as I’ve seen them mentioned a lot in the materials I’m reading online. You got yourself a new subscriber! I’ll have to check out your other videos as well. I’d love to see a comparison of canister vs HOB vs even the ones that go on the floor of the tank. Especially with my high ammonia outputting goldfish.

6 foot tank would be more the size as these fish could grow quite large. I have a Fluval 307 on a 40gallon tank so 407 would be advisable for 55gallon or if you have room a Fluval fx4. Google comet fish for their care.

Thanks or demonstrating how to put the hoses on - wish that had been on close up because I'm still having a terrible time getting my hoses secure and I still can't see where to put the suction cups on (plus I only received 3 instead of 4. My hoses may have to just hang loose until I can have somebody else try it. I also have an acrylic tank with an overhang around the edges. There are some cutouts but the tube isn't long enough to go from one end to the other. (it's a big tsnk) plus the canister is inside the stand so I need a flashlight to do anything inside. I also keep dropping things (like suction cups) into the tank. I have to get a stepstool and use a long "grabber" to pull the piece out. These tubes will be the death of me, How do you make it look so easy? The media and most of the other stuff is self explanatory if you've ever had a filter of just about any type. Also - BTW - i had my volume at 100 and still could barely hear you talk.

I don’t know much about them but I’ve also seen filters that can lay at the bottom of the tank. The canisters need to be below the water level to syphon properly. Perhaps the other kind doesn’t? I currently have two HOB’s (hang on back) for my 29 gallon aquarium.

Just a tip intake and out take on same side.
Out take acting as a wave maker to push water forward on top then put a small wave maker on the bottom of opposite side to push water below to circulate and push tridus to the intake.
This give you a full tank circulation to make the canester work better

Hi just wanted your opinion do you agree with this! saw this on a african chilids forum they all say you don't need carbon in your filter Hi there! Welcome to the forum!
I have never heard of a fish that actually needs carbon. I think you may be mistaking filter cartridges (carbon) with filter media. Most aquarists don't use cartridges (carbon) because they are only active for 4 weeks and need to be replaced if you actually want activated carbon in your filter. Most people only use it if they are trying to rid a tank of medication or strong oders, ect. Filters do need filter media, you are absolutely right about that. Fish need the media in a filter because it allows nitrifying bacteria to grow, which eats the toxins fish produce and keeps your water safe. But, filter media consists of many things other than carbon. A good example is sponge. Many aquarist ditch the filter cartridge's because the carbon serves them no purpose and replace it with sponge or something similar for the bacteria to grow on. Fish don't actually need the carbon itself, but need the bacteria that grows on cartridges and other types of filter media. :D

Aaand since 2005 and x04 series nothing changed. No failed filter/tubing protection, small hole in the intake tube 1/2" below water level will be lifesaver when your filter fails and leaks. Unlikely event but my 404 canister split(in 2005) and sucked nearly all water out of the 450l tank flooding 3 storeys of flats below. Have I had such hole it would be 8-10 liters on the floor not ~350!!!!

    Omg.... I can't accept it😂😅
Came across this video when I checkout for Fluval 207 and I'm totally 😅
From the way you handle the installation, it shows you're amateurs.. and it got my "OCD" exploded 😂
    1. Ppl would get ready the filter media before installing the piping.
    2. Nobody would prewash the filter media 😒 especially when you are wanted play around with the water chemistry for a fresh new setup... I must emphasize, unless you know your water parameters, otherwise, don't play with it.
    3. frankly, the default bio ring is low quality stuff, we usually get higher grade bio ring.
    4. The setup of the output nozzle 😞 - we most often tilt it to near water surface level to encourage water surface agitation for oxygen exchange ... Not just simply dump it underwater, it's about oxygen exchange and also understanding what kind of water flow we want to create for our setup.
