    I won the giveaway. I installed it on my 29 gallon aquarium. It's lightly planted and has around 25 black neon tetras. I never had any ammonia issues and my water was always crystal clear. In my experience it will work well up to 30 gallons. As for it being quiet, my aquarium is about 3 feet from my bed and I never really heard it.

    Really appreciate this video!
    I’m looking at a 107 for my 20 long and wasn’t sure if this would work,given the depth of the tank.
    I’ll go ahead and order one.
    I’m not able to get water changes done every week right now so hoping this filter with added media will help me keep the tank healthy in between tank maintenance.

    The first digit in the model number is for the size (1-, 2-, 3-, 4-). The 0 doesn't matter. The last digit is for the generation (-5, -6, -7)
    The 105, 106, and 107 are the same model, just with each ascending number, a newer generation.
    The x06 generation is still being sold in stores, but is being phased out by the newer x07 models.

  • @James_NatureAquatics
    @James_NatureAquatics Před 3 lety +1

    Agree they are good filters. Only thing I disable is the corrugated hose, slows flow in my opinion but can get around that easily. Sunsun I have too and they are ok, have lots of media room. The fluval trays are definitely innovative in design. I wouldn’t run a 107 on a 20 gallon personally, I’m a high flow person in planted tanks. Maybe use it on a 10. However as much as fluval cost these days I think I would go with Oase biomaster in a new set up just that being a little more I have my heater in the filter and their prefilter I find superior to other brands. Wish other canisters would copy that design.

    • @pecktec
      @pecktec  Před 3 lety +1

      Me too it’s good to have the heater in the canister. I thought the flow from this thing was almost too much in my 20. For these specific fish that is.

    • @James_NatureAquatics
      @James_NatureAquatics Před 3 lety +1

      pecktec I understand that with over powering filters. Lovely that ADA created the lily pipe variations that can make flow more gentle. I run large filter in my nano tank and use the spin pipe to mitigate the powerful flow. It makes it super gentle while still having superior circulation.

  • @WhiteCloud746
    @WhiteCloud746 Před 3 lety +1

    Pecktec: It's a great video as always. The "hole in the wall" fish store in California with the super deep substrate is "Ocean Aquarium" in San Francisco. The owner, Justin and his wife there have a lot of useful perspective on the hobby. They are demigods to me. Truly, the ultimate filter "media" is the substrate itself. They share a point of view with "Father Fish." If you want really good, scientific information on a deep substrate I can't recommend enough the CZcams channel called "Jay's Aquarium." He appears to be a young fellow in South Korea and he really understands the matter. What I like about Jay's Aquarium is that he acknowledges the benefits of the deep substrate but also the shortcomings. Ultimately, his experiment is successful but he doesn't continue it forever. As Ben O'Chart and others note, nitrate build-up isn't the only reason we fish keepers change water. That said, the no water change / top up only Ocean Aquarium fish store in San Francisco works over the long term because the proprietor has an insane amount of plants in the tanks. The fish barely have room to swim. I myself have a very stable 65 gallon with a very deep substrate but I do still change some water periodically.
    As for the filters, I love the fluval '07 series. They work well for me. Another great canister filter for a small tank in the Eheim Ecco Pro 2232. I also like that one. The Eheim 2232 and the Fluval 107 are great alternatives to a sponge filter for 10-20 gallon tanks.

Something I noticed is that you have a couple bottles of Aquavitro in the cabinet, or it looked like you do. Are you using that on your tank? I switched from Tropica all in one firtz to the Aquavitro line about the same time the hair algae started... My thinking perhaps reducing iron. At the moment I have a automated doser doing exactly what the bottles recommend. Plants are doing excellent other than the hair algae.

      Yeah I used them for a bit but didn’t notice much difference. I had hoped with the plants getting more nutrients the algae would subside. But nothing is really working in there.

      3m of hose is too long to be running on each line. You would have hose hanging down and lose pressure with the distance water needs to travel.

    Anoxic filter is the way to keep the nitrates low. When nitrates are low, algae growth are controlled. Maybe you want to look up Kevin Novak's work

      @@pecktec lol.[ rabbit hole] Seriously the anoxic filter has been around for more than 5 years. People with very expensive Koi had been using them, in the UK. Under very low O2 levels another group of bacteria will use the 02 in the N03(nitrates) thereby converting the nitrates into nitrogen gas. Cool huh?

      @@pecktec ok looking foreward for it. BTW you can get fluval to get cracking to incorporate the anoxic tech into their filter line as well. The beauty of the anoxic thing is it last a long time. This unit is possible to be fitted into fluval's filters. The anoxic can just be a canister that can be dropped in to its special space [ that's fluval engineered] Hey this idea is worth a ton of usd lol. Fluval can also start making baked bentomite clay and laterite. How does ionic attraction appeal to you huh? lol

    FIRST OF ALL PRIME YOUR PUMP FIRST, AND THEN TURN IT ON!!!!
    I stack my biohome vertically in my 406. It's really not that hard if you prop the trays at an angle when you start to stack them. Be patient at the beginning, and by the 4th row the pieces are stacking themselves.
    I did the same on my FX4 and 5 as well. You'll have extra room to "loose stack" on top of those trays.

    Not a fan of "Alien". Just unable to watch that t-shirt. My experience with Fluval is their tubing is weird and I could not make it work. It would not fit in a standard 55g stand. It's just not made for real world uses. Probably over designed. (I did skim listen to the video) LOL

    EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED by this pump, I bought 2 on one of the largest online sales sites: the observation is that they are not waterproof, the seal system allows air to pass through. I am based in the north of France and no reseller of these products.
