I just want to say that for all the people that are dissing this performance, when we first ran through it, it was 8 in the morning and about 30 degrees then we didn't practice it together after that, to be completely honest, until we preformed it together. Think about how many separate bands there were, different music styles, different band directors, and not to mention all the different students playing. That is such a difficult thing to do. You have people who haven't really played at all or that spend all year perfecting four songs. We had two weeks to learn a song, and about 20 minutes of practicing with over 1,00 students on one field. Think of all the talent and passion the students that were on that field that day and coming here and seeing all these negative comments, truly hurts
To all those at the receiving end of the hate comments: don't let it get to you. You know it was pretty damn good given your circumstances, and you gave it your best effort, and that's all the matters. People hate on things all the time, it's the sad truth.
I think the performance turned out rather nicely considering what we had to work with. Only one week of practicing the music(as individual bands) and then two small run-through's early that morning. I believe the total count exceeded 2,800 students. It's pretty difficult for that amount of students playing together, with many different directors who may, or may not be on time. That, with the addition of the time it takes for sound to travel will lead to some "lag" in being on time for most people, especially those struggling to hear percussion. That day wasn't about being the very best, and sounding top notch, but rather gaining experience in college marching band, enjoying ourselves, identifying what we as individuals and as a whole band should work on to improve, and challenging ourselves to learn a song in a short amount of time. If you didn't enjoy the show, that's fine, but please remember this- These are High School kids performing in a new setting, many of whom were nervous, accompanied by the most exciting band in all the land. Everyone did the best they could, and in my honest opinion, they sounded pretty dang great!
Let me say this now, to everyone making rude hate comments about this performance. We didn't have a lot of time to practice together and It was a pretty damn good performance. The whole point of this was to have fun, not to be the best. It was a chance for us to see what college marching band is like and to meet people from other bands and have a good time. But obviously a lot of you people here don't understand that. Not everything has to be perfect you know. You guys don't know how hard marching band is and you never will. By saying all these rude comments you're offending every single one of those performers out on that field. So stop hating on our performance and go ruin someone else's day.
+Amber U. I don't know, it's not bad, I just thought they'd be a little more in sync. I kind of forgot to take into account the fact that they were in fact high schoolers though so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Im part of one of the marching bands that performed this that day and I would just like to say that given the fact that we only got to practice this with everybody on the field twice, it turned out pretty damn good. Thanks:)
+Amanda Boone They are a hundred yards apart. There's a reason why traditional marching bands don't spread out the full length and width of the field. Sound takes time to travel to you; the sound you make takes time to travel to other people. The result is no clear beat. And the mess you hear in this video.
This sounds awesome. A few years ago my band played at the high school band day halftime show at the University of Cincinnati and it didn't sound nearly as amazing as this did.
Im so glad I found this again. This was one of my happiest memories from marching band! I'm sure anyone who was on that field at the time can agree ❤❤❤
i remember how excited all of the band were after performing this. we were all jumping around. it's all about having fun, experiencing new things, and meeting new people. the recording doesn't do the performance justice, though. from what i recall it sounded much better on the field. still come here every now and then to bring back the fun memories- like during lunch a kid from another band came over to ours on a onesie and started dancing with us. we love and appreciate every time we go to ou band day. the amount of friends all the bands make- simply beautiful. ou band day is where us band geeks can truly feel at home.
This sound was from a cam in the stands. It would not be unexpected to have delayed/echo sound from different parts of the field being several hundreds of feet away. I am sure it sounded much better on the field. or even live. The amazing sound guy at our local theater fixes the horrible echo effect in a small 150 foot theater seating by delaying the rear speakers an appropriate amount to match when the stage and front speaker sound reaches the back of the audience. The same effect is evident with national anthem singers having a terrifically hard time to ignore/overcome the echo of the stadium speakers.
Awesome my son, Ben was in that Gianormous 2,200+ band!! I'd never seen that many musicians & flag corps on the same field before all playing in unison--an absolutely awesome thing of beauty!! :)
+Jesse Prescott Why would you feel bad? It was a GREAT day(rather cold though in the beginning), GREAT experience, GREAT practice for those of us wishing to go into college Marching Band. Given the fact it was over 20 bands(2,000+kids, most of them only having the music for one week with limited practice time). It turned out quite well, rocky start, but we pulled it together quite well with what we had to work with. This wasn't about sounding like the best Band in all the world, but rather having fun, gaining experience, and getting to enjoy ourselves at, in my opinion, the best college.
If you had the chance to march with the number one marching band in the U.S. Would you? even if someone thought it didn't sound completely together. Cause phasing will happen and it was a very fun experience. It's not necessarily for how amazing it sounds. It was just a very fun and good experience for kids in high school or middle school like me
If you thought it was annoying you didn't have to tell everyone and the people in this video are MIDDLE SCHOOLERS AND HIGH SCHOOLERS it's not going to be perfect. I'm a middle schooler myself and if you played on that field in 7-8 grade it would be perfect either
Bigger is not always better. Way too many people playing this; sounds like a jumbled mess. Sorry to all those who say, "We only got to practice it twice." Simply saying that proves my point. Keep it smaller and simpler. Overkill is what this was.
It was a high school band event. The point was to have fun and experience being in a college marching band. It wasn't meant to be the best half time show on earth.
+Kimnicpat Phasing is to blame for the "jumbled mess." I'm a former marching band alumni. Depending on where you are in the field/stadium the sound will always sound off. That's why band members are forced to rely on the drum major rather than what they hear with their own two ears.
it doesn't sound 'sloppy'. I am in marching band. it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get to that level of skill. you probably wouldn't know that, seeing as you posted this STUPID comment that probably reflects your personality perfectly.
+Lexi Cushing i was in marching band too... if everyone was in time, and was playing the music right, it would sound fine. instead theyre all too busy bouncing around not paying attention.
+Justine Miller you obviously don't know what good marching band music sounds like because that was pretty damn amazing. I'm a member of one of the bands that performed and that was a really awesome performance we did. and we only practiced this twice all together that morning.
+Justine Miller It's called "band day", and the point is 1.) to have fun and 2.) to let area high school band kids get to know members of the college marching band that they might be joining in the next couple of years.
yaaaaaaaaaaaaas we sound so beautiful ^.^ that was a really fun day... proud Garfield Heights band member right here ^.^

That was one of the best days of my life. Being right next to the 110 was amazing too. A cool 110 saxophone player high fived me and it was crazy 😂
I really hope Fall Out Boy sees this! They would love it!
When I saw it listed as a trending topic on facebook I honestly thought it would sound a little cleaner than this...
+Amanda Boone what did you expect? There are thousands of kids on that field
+Amber U. I don't know, it's not bad, I just thought they'd be a little more in sync. I kind of forgot to take into account the fact that they were in fact high schoolers though so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

+Alexis Smith It's certainly 1000 times better than the train wreck last year!
+Amanda Boone

Loved preforming it was so fun
I have watched this a thousand times and just noticed the mass of bass drums in the middle haha.
Lots of them
That was AMAZING!!

Not hot on the sound quality, but man look at those kids jam, lol. A+ for enthusiasm.

Got me over here singing along! Good job!

Doesn't have to be perfect, just looks like fun to be a part of. Plus it was good anyway, abs loved it like
Beautiful.

Kinda feel bad for these kids that this is trending on facebook. They're gonna get so much heat for this mess lol.

Because it makes you all sound worse than you are. That many instruments, just sounds too messy
I was a band geek....and this was jus over kill and slop. Keep it simple. March on.
+HNRsince1998 it was amazing thank you very much. i'm a member of one of those bands that performed and there was nothing wrong with our performance

+Alaina Arbaugh wouldn't *
At are school today are pep band played it better

It's cool but I think it would have sounded way better with about half as many people playing it. Also the sound quality on this video is pretty bad.
Ew - why on earth would some one think that mashing 20 marching bands togehter would sound good? That is WAY too much and it sounds so sloppy!
it doesn't sound 'sloppy'. I am in marching band. it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get to that level of skill. you probably wouldn't know that, seeing as you posted this STUPID comment that probably reflects your personality perfectly.

This is the whitest thing I've ever seen.
