American Racing wheels is arguable one of the most iconic aftermarket custom wheel brands in existence. It’s a household name for hot rod owners and muscle car junkies. And to some, American Racing was the first brand in existence that kick started the aftermarket wheel segment. In this video, Greg is back in the shop to provide a full overview of where they started and how American Racing rose to be one of the most recognizable wheel brands in the business.
Iconic Legacy. American Racing wheels is special because it was founded by two die hard automotive racers back in 1956. They needed a lightweight racing wheel for their own race car to reduce rotating mass and get the edge on the competition. But at that time, the automotive aftermarket was still evolving. So instead of waiting on the sidelines they jumped at the opportunity and founded American Racing Equipment and designed and built the first lightweight magnesium wheel.
The Torque Thrust. American Racing is without a doubt one of the most iconic wheel brands in existence. But there is one specific wheel that put them on the map: The Torque Thrust. This wheel was first released in 1963 and was offered in both magnesium and aluminum. To this day American Racing still makes the Torque Thrust and it remains one of the best-selling wheels that they offer.
Modern Muscle. A strong misconception with the American Racing brand is that they only offer wheels for classic muscle cars or street rods, which couldn’t be more wrong. American Racing has evolved in the past 60 years and they offer a slew of wheels for modern muscle cars and even a full truck off road line. So if your looking for a new set of shoes for your late model car, don’t forget about American Racing.
