The Completely Insane Film Camera Of The 'Future'

- When I found out about the Ricoh Mirai, I knew I was gonna have to check out what this insane camera was all about. I took a trip to the lake district and shot some Fuji Superia X-tra with this 35mm bad boy.

Based on the photos captured, I really like how this camera captures moving subjects. Specifically the photo of the 3 horses eating grass in the shade while their tails shake is a beautiful shot, and all the details are sharp. Everything in the foreground and the background appears in focus and there's great depth of range. That being said, if it's a struggle to use the autofocus and it's heavy to carry, I can understand why it didn't become more popular. An odd collaboration, but cool to see.
Hey Dani! Perhaps it’s more down to the photographer than the camera 😉. Yeah! It’s definitely capable but it’s not in any way practical. It was a lot of fun to shoot with for this but I’d never use it again
My Dad bought one in 1988. I’ve got it now and I’ve kept it because it was his camera. He had an Olympus OM-1n before the Mirai ana a Zenit EM before that. He gave me the Zenit in 1980, when he bought his OM-1. He just uses his iPhone camera these days.
After watxhing this video I just bought a Ricoh Mirai. They are incredibly difficult to find (in working condition) especially where I live Moscow - Russia. I have a huge collection of film cameras due to all them being sold so cheap now for very unfortunate circumstances but its a good collection of over 140 film cameras and your videos have hwlped me choose the ones to buy

You gotta use the auto focus and manual focus as an on/off switch. It gets the image in focus when in auto but it doesn’t register in the camera. So shoot in auto, then switch to manual on the switch on the bottom once it’s good enough in focus from auto. Annoying but it’s the best work around I’ve found.
Funny thing is, I bought myself this camera as well a few months ago, and the reason I did it was silly. I've been on a kind of a journey where if I watch one of my favorite movies from my childhood, and I see a character using a camera that is unusual, I try to find out what it is and I try to buy one (if its at a reasonable price). So, I discovered one day, watching the first Batman movie (Michael Keaton Batman, 1989) that the Joker's henchman, Bob the Goon, was out taking photos on the street of Vicky Vale. The camera in his hand was super weird... turned out to be a Ricoh Mirai of all cameras!
I had to find one, and find one I did. But, I think the autofocus motor might be faulty, as it doesn't focus at all, no matter what I try. I may look around to see if there's any camera repair shops around to see if they might be able to look at it. Or hell maybe i'll try to fix it myself, I'm pretty technical.
