I just took a part, the same base or one side of it and was checking CZcams to see if I should video myself taking the other side apart. To anyone watching this who’s about to do the same, please flip over and disassemble with the unit upside down. Make sure you wear an N95 mask Or something else for mold handling. Once I removed everything and got down to the plywood and batting, I found mold, even though I have never spilled anything on the mattress! I think the combination of the heat generated by Tempur-pedic mattresses and the combination of motors under the bed, a lot of heat transference causes a bacteria breeding ground. I’m happy that I did not try giving this away or selling it to someone else. Instead, I am throwing out the material, recycling/Upcycling the plywood pieces to make furniture and plan to use the metal frame for making some kind of hydraulic press. I’d love to hear ideas from anyone else watching this on what to use these motors for. They should not be thrown out as the vibration motors and one main motor that has two shafts for raising the head or foot area can be upcycled For many uses.
Thanks for the informative and entertaining video! Mine is older and heavy like yours- Queen size bed. I’m finally giving up the Ghost and getting rid of it. I have moved it three times and it takes at least three people. Lol thanks for sharing how did this assemble this beast, love your dog - add more character to your video.
i did this because I didn't want anyone coming inside to get it and I had to break it up since I was a few floors up... if I could have dragged it outside and left it at the trash i would have
Came upon this video as trying to resolve a squeak as past efforts were temporary before squeak returned. Video was both helpful as I could see the construction design, but frustrating to watch you over work and destroy, all of which was unnecessary. Two suggestions before anyone else does this.
1) No need to crawl under to get to the screws holding the plywood panels or access mechanics. Flip on side (or totally upside down) leaning against wall or angling towards you supported by the two legs. This is how I re-torque all those screws - even removing the screws one by one and applying blue LocTite on second re-torqueing event. Also white lithium grease on motor connector bolts and light silicon spray on moving parts.
2) Donate! This was a fully working frame that absolutely could have been donated. Most major firms will accept (and free pickup) even if they won't accept a mattress. Mattress - Check your local area but I recently donated my 10y/o Tempurpedic to a local charity that specializes in furniture - like the sofa you donated - to indigent. Qualified individuals can come in and furnish their entire house with the donated furniture. While they do pick up, didn't want to wait the 10 days so rented a U-Haul and got to see their operation as I dropped it off. While mine had a mattress protector on the entire 10 years, was in pristine condition - but let the charity decide what the want to do with it. The had a separate operation disassembling mattresses to sort materials and recycle all components rather than landfill.
Your video was helpful as I saw where all those screws went and metal plates are all the way through the plywood - destroying one of my "next step" theories of partial and needed glue. Have to investigate more to see if the squeak is a rubbing somewhere and needs some foam/batting selectively placed to insulate two components from rubbing against each other. Everything is so hidden with the fabric covering.

This was so hard to watch! I suffer from so many spinal issues (20+ surgeries) and I know there are many others like myself that could have benefited from it. If donated, someone would have only needed to buy the top mattress part.
Donating everything but the mattress would have been an option with all the restrictions.

The metal and motors you can scrap them or put them at edge of drive way and scrap man can take it.
Don't mean to take the pi*s but I found it funny that you said you never used it, apart from a couple of months and then said this cheap mattress, actually really expensive mattress.
costing a lot doesn't mean it is not cheap... it cost a fortune but when you look at the garbage used to make it and how cheap it is

Dude, you should’ve put the bed 🛏 up for sale, donated it, recycled it, or had the mattress company take it away and they will recycle ♻️ it. Don’t put it in the landfill!

Bigfish if you want the motor you can order a newer model from the company that's what I did cause it was cheaper to get the whole kit then buying a remote
