Mixed with tofu, a squeeze of lemon, sea salt and Italian herbs to make vegan ricotta. I used this to make lasagne-along with Follow Your Heart parmesan-and I honestly could not tell the difference between that vegan lasagne and the old cheese lasagne I used to make. I was so sad when I'd eaten it all I wanted to make another one immediately, but I'm holding off for a couple of weeks so I don't get tired of it. And you know what else tastes like chicken? Red lentils. I made red lentil soup and could not believe how much it tasted like chicken soup. They have a completely different flavor than green or black lentils.
I like to make flatbreads with naan, hummus, Tomatoes, onions, balsamic glaze, pepper and NOOCH! Served baked and warm it’s 👌🏻👌🏻 💯
That sounds delicious!!!

Do you mix it in the naan mixture while it rises? Or do you top the naan with it after it's done?
@@SunniDae333 I top the naan with it, like a pizza!
Oh yuuuuummmmm!
Hi there!
Two out of my three dogs have skin allergies to grasses and other plants. They get itchy dry patches and their hair falls out in patches. I started putting nooch on their dry food and within about three weeks their hair grew back. Their coats are shinier, eyes are brighter, and they are more playful and full of energy. I would highly recommend for any sickly, underweight or older 🐕. Will improve their quality of life. I got the idea when I saw yeast tablets in the pet vitamin section in the store.I compared ingredients that they are basically the same except the vitamin tablets have filler and binders to make them a certain size and keep the tablet sticking together. All of my dogs love the taste. They mow it down even if it's on a dogfood brand they don't usually like much.
Nutritional yeast goes back to the 70's. Been eating this stuff for 50 years, baby.
Deb Kelly me too (well, not 50 years since I’m not even 50) but I grew up with hippie macrobiotic adults - nutritional yeast was always on popcorn.
Deb Kelly I thought I’d miss cheese but that nutritional yeast is Yum
For real!? Omg I had no idea! My parents are boomers and I don't think they knew about this :o
Haha
@@prussianbluephantom3968 Well, if you were in the hippie age of "health food nuts" back in the 70's, you more than likely knew about nutritional yeast. We put it on popcorn with tamari and cayenne pepper. We were the ones growing our own alfalfa sprouts in big gallon jars (still do) and making yogurt and baked tofu. All these trends you see today are nothing new. And actually, "health nuts" go back to the 40's.
I was introduced to nooch long before I went vegan by a roommate (also wasn't vegan). She did work at a health-food store though. And she told me to try it on some popcorn. Best way to have popcorn in my opinion.
Yes yes YES! It was killer expensive on my minimum wage in the 60's, but on my below poverty level SS, it's mandatory and, seemingly affordable. Maybe because I have changed priorities from stylish clothes to healthy food :)
error53ish I am not vegan but I use it because it’s cheaper and has a longer shelf life than the cheeses I get in my country.
Who else is obsessed with adding nooch to everything?!
Check out all my Vegan Nutritional Yeast Recipes: www.theedgyveg.com/2019/12/12/vegan-nutritional-yeast-recipes/
Edgy Veg I can eat it on its own I love it so much 😂
This one time, I felt like nooch, so I grabbed a spoon from the drawer. And I straight up ate a tablespoon of nooch.
Martin Wright me to! They ate better than sny crisps on the eartch!!!!!
Cabbage soup however healthy tastes terrible but not with 1/4 cup of bragg’s nutritional yeast (2 onions, 2 carrots, 2 celery stalks, 5 garlic cloves, 1 cabbage, 3 tomatoes, 6 cups water, 1/4 apple juice, 1/4 cup nutritional yeast (optional 2 teaspoons chili flakes, optional can of white beans or frozen lima beans)) 💕🎄✌🏻
Girl, I use that shit on everything.
I been vegan since oct 2017 and I still and just dabbling. Thank you for the info
Mom used to buy it for us in the 80's. We would put it on toast, But you had to time your breathing LOL
Haha this tickled me 😅😅
🤣😂
I eat nooch straight. I put it in salads, over spaghetti or chili, on popcorn, in cheez sauces I make. I sometimes make my own potato chips, which I recently did, and used nooch for a flavoring.
been vegan for almost 3 years, had heard of nooch before, even had some given to me, but it got bad because I didn't know how to use it (!!!!!!)--- now finally I'm enjoying it and basking in its glory
~ spreads on the floor and rolls on it ~
Nooch is soooo good in tofu scramble, popcorn and Mac and cheese 😋.
Edit: Never thought to put it in soup. Great idea I’m definitely trying that out.
This video but with miso! I have a newfound love and appreciation for it!
I'm new. Started on Thanksgiving, so thank you for your tips!♥
could you do one on miso paste? i see it used in so many recipes but always forget to buy it to try on my own. also tahini would be a good one!
I can only find it at sprouts, and only one kind. BUT that's not including specialty Asian markets. Just major chains.
Also, I've heard it should always be in the refrigerated section somewhere if it's actual fermented miso paste cause, kinda like yogurt, it's keeps the beneficial bacteria alive.
I second this request!!
Miso paste takes 6 months to a couple of years to make.
thank you so much for sharing some ways to use this important ingredient to help our health. Love learning and you gave some good and helpful ideas. Thanks again, Angela from central Italy :)
Really great, I have a bag of nooch I haven't used because I didn't know how. Thank you!
Oooooh yes. Love this stuff and have been using it for years. In my house is goes in soups, tops pastas, and yes in mac n "cheez" lol
It’s also great to add to plant milk with cinnamon and maple syrup to make French toast!! Adds that ~little something~
Nacho dip situation 🤣 I actually bought some today so very happy to have found this. Muy bien 😁
Combine miso paste, water, and nooch for a delicious, savory butter replacement for those avoiding oil.
I drizzle it on a bowl of broccoli and microwave it with a plate on top. Try it!
I have 4kg of the stuff in my cupboard - literally, it was on sale at my local bulk store!
Sarah Carrick it doesn’t go stale? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, haven’t purchased any yet. Will be making this journey w/o hubby, so I’m making small changes. Plant based milks ✅, vegan butter✅, vegan cheese✅, vitamix and juicer✅ (though the juicer is still in the box😂).
@@dianemcquay8460 They're in 2kg bags, so only one is open at a time. But you're right they probably would go stale after a while - luckily I get through 2kg in about 4-6 months and I've never had any issues with it. So happy to hear you're both transitioning, you're going to feel amazing! Maybe start with a smaller amount of nooch until you get used to using it and then you'll be putting it on everything! And that Vitamix is an invaluable investment... best of luck!
Oooh nooch goals!!! 😍
Sarah Carrick thanks for the reply😁😁😁
Only buy non fortified. Is more expensive and isn't synthetic. Doesn't contain b12.
Thank you so much for all the ideas yes I love that yeast it’s got a wonderful cheesy flavor and it’s so good for you thanks for the good ideas😋💕
You are so welcome!
I used Nooch once to replace yellow miso. I was making something and realized that I forgot to pick up the yellow miso that it called for. So I took some soy sauce and some Nooch and created a paste. Since it was the 1st time I had made the recipe, I couldn't tell if the flavor had changed since it didn't have the miso. However, when I made the recipe again w/ the miso, I could say the flavor wasn't that much different. I actually liked the Nooch paste version better...particularly since finding miso in my grocery store can be hit and miss.
Willow Raevynwood hi Willow. That’s a great idea! I think the term you’re looking for is “hit OR miss” hit being the good one, like “it’s a hit!
My son puts it in everything including dessert. I love it too just not in everything. Thank you for sharing 💚💚💚
This stuff is soooo good😚♥️♥️♥️
For soup, I like to mix it with some water or broth (~1/3 cup nooch in 2 cups water for a 10-12 cup soup recipe) and let it settle for a few minutes so the sludge falls to the bottom. When it's time to add it to the soup, I pour the stock out carefully so the sediment stays behind. You're left with a clear yellow liquid that gives a slightly more appealing look/texture. Miso's another great flavor-booster you could cover :)
It was "chicken soup" with nutritional yeast that made me a believer. It's nearly indistinguishable from the animal based soup, and just as tasty! Now I put the yeast in almost anything that needs a boost, lol. Just discovered that it makes a great coating with flour for crispy fried tofu that reminds me of chicken nuggets. So much yum.
I bought a bottle for the very first time a couple of weeks ago and I am addicted. It is so good and so good for you I'm so happy lol
Thanks! Hubby n I are new at this way of living n it’s been so challenging to cook anything without cheese. So helpful ! Thanks! :)
Pls link any other helpful tips! 😊
I love nooch!! I put that S*** on everything lol
May I suggest, miso paste and coconut aminos for future videos?
Mmmmm
Miso paste and coconut aminos are both soooooo good!
Ditto!
So this month my cat was not feeling well (the cat food we bought was off, maybe because the corporation had an ownership change). He was not touching his food bowl at all. Then we sprinkled some nutritional yeast on it and he went crazy for it's nutty flavour. Was the only way we could get him to eat enough food for the laxatives to work (which helped flush the bad food out of his system). Am so so glad that worked. But who knew cats love nooch too!
My dogs love it too!
I recently bought it and I was amazed. It tasted really good and crunchy and has a smoky taste too besides it's very versatile
Okay I need to make that popcorn now🤤
The one ingredient tnat will make my vegan cooking better???
Is it, "Love"?? 😉😀☺️
Lol this would great CZcams content and perfect for the holidays.
Only if love is code for nooch, I’ve had 5 tablespoons today, mmmmmm
For all those who don't like nutritional yeast and/or are asking about brands, here's my experience. I tried the most readily available ones, such as Bragg's and KAL. Didn't like them at all. Figured out that those are fortified with B vitamins and all I tasted was B vitamins. I now buy UN-fortified. There are several brands - Sari and Frontier come to mind and taste just about the same to me. They are mildly nutty tasting, not really cheesy but add a nice savory note to things. They do work well in vegan "cheese" sauces. Bottom line: Try UNFORTIFIED.
I am going to make some minestrone soup, I wonder if it will be good to add nooch, I've never had it in anything and was looking for something to try it in. Thanks!
Love the Nooch colored nails!
Hi, love your content.
I'm not sure if you have done this, but I would like to buy a Tofu Press, which type is best and having trouble buying one in Queensland Australia kitchen shops.
Could you point me in the right direction please.
Love Nooch. It is a necessity for us.
It's great as a broth powder base, or sprinkled on baked potato!!😊
Ugggghhh I love nooch. I add it to pretty much every savory dish. It works in almost everything.
I like adding nooch to gravies and sauces as well! one ingredient ive always been super intimidated by are all the various gums and starches people use to make cheeze and sauces and desserts
Whoa. I'm craving popcorn, cuz I smelled it here at work. They only have non-vegan microwave stuff. Then I start watching/listening to this video. Thanks, Candice! LOL!
The first time I used it, I said “Tastes like chicken. Weird.” 😂
What's the cheapest way to buy it or cheapest place to find it ?
I love nutritional yeast. What is the recommended amount to eat every day? Thank you.
🌲🌝☘️
If you would like an amazing seasoning order some Everglades Seasoning. It’s amazing on everything.
Newbie Vegan and love what you can do with Nooch! 🙏💖
thanks!
I love nooch on my popcorn so good
Any recommendations for where to buy cheap nutritional yeast in Canada? I'm new to vegan cooking and the one I got is way too pricy!
Should maybe talk a little about the differences between synthetic fortified Nooch and non-fortified Nooch...for those who want naturally fortified or not fortified Nooch...use this a lot in my own cooking! Love your videos, lots of good info on commercial products for vegan cooking!
I like to sprinkle it on my tofu before air frying it to get make it crispy and flavorful!!!
What is the best brand of nutritional yeast? Brand comparision video????
You are awesome! I’m new to this vegan thing but the more I learn, the more exciting it is.
One thing I struggle with is tofu. Haven’t been able to stomach it yet. Maybe the texture, but I think it has potential. Can you suggest some ways to make tofu interesting and tasty, please?
Freeze it, thaw it and then it has a chicken-like structure when you tear it into pieces. Great when you stir-fry with some veggies, season with soy sauce and nooch (add some chili flakes if that's your fancy). Top with spring onions and you'll have a feast!
I like Tofu marinated in Soy sauce, garlic, onion powder and Sweet Chilli sauce, and now I'm going to add Nutritional yeast. I then add it to stir-frys to replace meat.
Have you tried to make a sweet custard with nutritional yeast? I've made one that hot for food has on her channel. She made dessert trifle with the custard. It was very yummy!!
I knew it was nooch before I even started watching the video. Nooch is a game changer!
Watching this while eating plain noodles with nooch
Nutritional yeast is terrific - have been using it for years. It is enriched with B12 which makes it almost essential as a means of providing a pretty reliable source of this critical vitamin. Aside from that it offers so many options to create more flavor, espeically for things like Vegan mac and cheese.
YESSSSS IN SOUP. It’s totally levels up split pea soup 🙌🏻
💚 Can someone recommend brands? I’m very open to alternative foods/condiments etc and the one time I tried it I hated it which is very unusual for me since I tolerate a lot of things most ppl don’t 🤪
Ugh now I want popcorn 😋
what brand do you use?
On avocado bread with chilli flakes, lemon, salt and pepper!
Good to know the different ways to use it....thanks...But I read that the reason it has B-12 in it, is because most companies add synthetic B-12 to it...If it has synthetic B-12, I think the color is more yellow-orangey...i'm not a fan of synthetic vitamins, so I bought mine at Raw Food World, which doesn't have it in it...You may be able to find it elsewhere too...
Can you make a video about soy-free vegan options? I am a vegan but I have a soy intolerance and it is hard for me to find soy-free mock meats and vegan foods that do not contain soy.
Nutritional yeast is brilliant 😀
I love nooch! Put nooch on all the things!
Hey! Do you eat matzo balls? What do you sub for eggs?
Can you make an update vegan hollandaise sauce?!? 😍😍😍😍
I feel like I'm the only vegan who isn't in love with nutritional yeast 😅 like I'll add it to recipes, but I can't get with eating it on its own.
Mikayla it’s definitely an acquired taste and texture. It took me awhile to come around to it because I was expecting something akin to grated Parmesan but nooch is kind of its own thing
I agree with you. I also heard it upsets some stomachs
You aren't the only one... Honestly it reminds me of fish food. I just don't like it lol
I find if I put a lot in a dish it smells fishy, which I don’t want. Could it be the brand? I do like it in a tofu scramble.
nature’s cheeto dust😂 LOVE IT
I love adding it to pasta period, protein and cheesy taste
so good!
Is Bragg's Nutritional Yeast Vegan, because in the cover it mentions a vegetarian product and not vegan?
I have seen and bought small quantities of flaked and powdered nutritional yeast - and firstly they do taste different and some have more flavour than others - more umami taste and so better than others for making a "cheesy" sauce etc.
I have also heard folks say you "shouldn't" use nutritional yeast with tomato based dishes - most of my dishes do involve tomatoes - is there a clash of flavours or something?
Aquafaba changed my life forever, gonna have to get on the nutritional yeast game now 😌
I will like to better understand how to use liquid smoke :)
I cannot get on board with tempeh- idk if it’s the texture or what but I will ALWAYS go with tofu instead. Any tips for that would be great!
I don't remember who it was, but a youtuber suggested this recipe: cut the tempeh into strips. Boil it in some stock seasoned with some soy sauce, chili flakes and garlic powder (the liquid should just cover the tempeh) until the liquid has evaporated. That should take about 20 minutes. When that's done, let it cool, pat dry and bake or fry it. I've tried it and it's delicious that way!
I love nutritional yeast but I think I’m on the only vegan who doesn’t think it taste like traditional cheese 😭
I like nutritional yeast in many savory things but it definitely ruins my vegan cheese experience in most cases. It doesn’t remind me of cheese at all. I’m a dairy cheese-aholic and people will say it has that nutty flavor and I’m like you all are the nutty part of that statement because dairy cheese doesn’t taste like nuts- like at all🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Helpful to read this because I am highly allergic to yeast.
What brand of nooch do you get?
I will say I am quite intimidated by seitan or tempeh. Feel like I won’t enjoy the taste or texture. Please do a video on one of those ☺️
Tempeh is great grated and you end up with like a ground beef texture for dumplings. I love small cubes in stirfry or thin strips oven baked. Dont be afraid its incredible!
Blair Foley thank you Blair! Guess I’ll have to be a little adventurous and try it out!
Cheese straws!! Can they be made? hmmmm P.S. Kitties love it too! And its healthy for them!
I love nutritional yeast I put it on EVERYTHING😂
Using it in custards to mimic the egg flavor!
My cat loves it!!!!!!
Make one on miso paste!
Awesome!!!! Thank you for this.
Did Sauce Stache start the one ingredient series?
We just based it on the fact that a lot of people asked for nooch following the Aquafaba video, but I think he has done videos like this too! He is fantastic
I just found your channel and I am beyond excited and happy, I feel like I'm in on a fab secret.
We "health food nuts" have been eating it since the 70's. Nothing new.
Many people are going vegan now and have no idea what it is or how to use it; so it is in fact new to many
@@EdgyVeg True. Just wanted to present a little useful history.
That montage of the nutritional yeast at 0:29 had me laughing so hard!! 😂
NOOCH TO THE PEOPLE!! 👑
LET THEM EAT NOOCH!! 👑
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
how about soy lecithin?
Maybe I'm a super dumb-dumb, but I have trouble making my own seitan. It always turns out kind of gummy! I would love a seitan 101 video!
Is there a type or brand that DOESN'T taste like chicken broth? I bought the NOW brand powder and I can't tolerate the chicken noodle soup taste it brings to everything. And I don't like eggs either. =/
i like this
Is this about skilshare or nooch?????????
Both!
Thank you nutrition yeast b vitamins
we love nooch
I use nutritional yeast for literally every meal I cook
I've never tried Tempeh
Tahini + Nooch + Hot Water + Lemon Juice = The most delicious sauce for just about everything!
Oh that sounds so good!! Thanks for sharing! 💕💕
It’s the best salad dressing EVER
What is Tahini 🥰 new vegan here
If a recipe calls for x amount of nutritional yeast I usually double it :) Always add it to soups and sauces and DEFINITELY mashed potatoes, tofu scrambles, gravies...literally EVERYTHING!
