My maternal grandfather was in the Air Force, and on my dad’s side of the family, my great-uncle Ed was in the Army while his brother, my great-uncle Joe, was in the Navy. My hometown hero, Lance Corporal Abram LaRue Howard, served in the Marine Corps. And to top it off, my buddy Harvey served in the Coast Guard after a brief stint in the Merchant Marines. All have since passed away and I miss them all deeply.
