Same here. My first ever garden in the making. It is very confusing watching the American videos. Thank you Rueben for more local content. Much love from Namibia 🇳🇦.

One thing I did this year is pre-sprouting my peas by soaking them overnight then putting them in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel until a little tendril came out. Those did better than the ones I planted while still dry and wrinkled. I think it makes sense when the ground is still cold but you want to get a cold season crop started.

I enjoy your content Rueben. As a beginner I finally I planted some Carrot, Cabbage, Swiss Chard, Peas & Mixed Herbs seeds directly in the garden, they've all germinated except for carrot seeds but I'll plant them in another spot & see what happens. I tried to grow onion from a store bought onion but I failed, so these germinated seeds give me hope. Keep these gardening videos coming, thank you.

Carrots looks healthy. What cultivar did you sow? My sugar snap peas are great but my sugar pod peas is an disaster. They struggled to germinate. I later realized that I sowed them too late since our night temp droped too low for them to germinate. ( Plants grow on night temperature) Now I leave them in the driveway throughout the day and bring them into my home at night. They are about 10 to 15 cm high. I hope they make it. I love Oregon sugar pod peas, they're great producers and very tough. I always plant sweet peas a little further away to draw away pests and diseases and in addition they help the bees out during the winter when food are scarce. It's important to leave enough space otherwise you'll struggle with mildew especially in winter rainfall areas. My broadbeans are slow this year, I think its because our day and night temperature fluctuated a lot this year. One night we wore winter PJ'S and the next night we kicked off the blankets. Happy growing. Can't wait to see how much your garden produced this season.

Hi Kristel, Great to hear from you! The carrots in the growing bag is Parisian and the ones in the inground bed is Chantenay Karoo.
Thank u so much for the tips on peas , I hope the seed make in ur driveway. Thanks again for your kind feedback

@@veggiesandherbswithruebenm2065 Chantenay karoo is one of my favorite cultivars too. The are resilient and never let me down. When I thin them out I use the greens as an parsley substitute. Later when I harvest the 🥕 I dry the leaves of the tops and use it in stews and soups. When I dry them I do it inside my home on flat chinese baskets, since the sun fades their green colour. I place the powder in jars with additional salt. Just to boost the nutritional value of the dish.
