In this DIY video, we'll show you how to give a Spirit Halloween mechanical monster hand a complete makeover to make it look like Thing from the new Wednesday show on Netflix. From sculpting and molding to painting, we'll take you through the step-by-step process of transforming a basic animatronic hand into a spooky and realistic Addams Family prop. And he actually walks! We explored many new techniques and learned a lot in making this video. Whether you're a Halloween enthusiast or a fan of the Addams Family, you won't want to miss this tutorial.
A giant thanks to our guest Marcus LaPorte who helped us out a TON on this project with mold making, sculpture advice, and calming our fears. You can check out his work at / marcusgraydoor

Spirit should do an Art Contest, where you can design your own animatronic, and if it wins, they will get the animatronic made and selled as an official spirit animatronic!!
Thats a great idea
Yes! That would be the best thing ever hehehe thing
Definitely!!!

Obie is such a little gargoyle of a cat, I love him so much
I thought he looked a lil bit cold, with his tail coiled against his side like that.
He’s so scrumpy, I love him !!!1!!!11
Totally cute (not) idl hairless cats no affence btw
@@gordskarott7272don’t be mean he’s adorable
@@gordskarott7272was kann denn die katze dafür dass sie keine haare hat? Genau, nichts. Du mongi. Und schön ist sie trotzdem, denn JEDES Tier ist schön.

Likes for Obi ❤
EDIT: I’m always amazed when Jamie starts painting anything. WOW that Thing looks incredible!
I've said before that I love watching you guys because it's a nice way to learn how to make props for movies, this is the most interesting "thing" you've made to me
Hahha thanks!!
@@WickedMakersOberon is so cute
Slay GURL
I love seeing you guys keep on posting even after Halloween!!!
yep! :D
@@WickedMakers I can't wait to see what you make for Valentines Day.
@@itwasagoodideaatthetime7980 maybe they could make something like a heart bleeding blood or something, or maybe a creepy cupid doll
It’s cool
I want one because I always watch your videos and I really love you

That cat jumped the gap with ease
You've really excelled with this prop - quite possibly your best ever. It looks so realistic - the skin, wrinkles and that paint job is incredibly good. Very well done. It's brilliant!
Thank you! 😄😄
Amazing videos guys🎉
For Christmas can you please do Jack frost
Thank you
I Love you guys ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
We learned so much stuff in this video!! Hope you like it. What do you want to see next? 🤘💀
This video is amazing!
Great job!
there is going to be the part two of the nun this year so can you make a nun animatronic transformation pls
It was awesome
“Last Of Us”, the “Clicker” but with your own little twist 🤩
Jamie's look of chagrin when she was caught in the accidental pun ("Open this _thing_ up,") shows that she's a fundamentally good person.
also, OMG WICKED BEHBEH!!!!!!
@Christa Simon I had a whole raft of other bits, starting each one with some variation of "Also" and exploring the possible names of the increasingly unlikely ALSO franchise of comments. (My favorite was Also 4: Also takes Manhattan. Even I am not sure if I'm referencing the Muppets or Friday the 13th.)
Please have a rainbow friends one
@@bearnaff9387 cool name
Nice Sphynx cat.
and also the pun "Super Hand-y" 6:42
Just love the kitty casually inserting itself on frame and claiming the full scene. Ps... I'm raising MY hand, I'd love one weird latex hand being sent to me, thank you XD
Omg this is amazing, I’m a cosplayer and this would just take Wednesday cosplay to a whole new level.!! The paint detail is great ❤ would you maybe make a video or a video short in the future how you make the silicone paint? ❤ love ur guys videos, makes my day to be able to watch this even outside of Halloween
I didn't even know Spirit sold this. My store and the ones nearby didn't have it. And of course yours looks so much better than the original!
This was very cool. Definitely looked better they way you all did it then the original.
Thanks!!
I SKIPPED 10seconds ahead and thought the cat was another spirit decoration 😂😳
Same😂😂😂
You have been knocking it out of the park with your builds recently. Clearly going full time suits you.
This is awesome! Congrats on the sponsorship!
haha thanks! much appreciated
This turned out amazing!!!! The paint skills are brilliant!!! The Hello Fresh ad was great too, got laughs from me and the kids!!! I'm so glad yalls channel is growing, we're very happy for y'all!!!
I love how much time and effort that you put into each model or prop that you make. And doing your own research/getting help? Those are the signs of a true "maker" of things. Awesome job!
I also don't really know how to ask the "right" way, so I'll just ask down here. It would be so cool to have something that was made by you guys, who have been an inspiration for multiple cool projects of my own, and who have taught me so much.
Bravo to you two! And I love how you got to expand on your knowledge of making new stuff such as the latex glove. You guys pulled it off wonderfully. Yay for continued learning!
Very cool, I also thought about if it might be possible to make this little hand with animatronics, good to know that the electronics already exist ^^ and very interesting seeing you making these mold’s, I personally never used that technique
It’s so much fun
I really enjoy watching you transform animatronics, and it was so cool to see you learn how to make a mold! I study mold making in college, and it’s very neat to see you trying something new! Hands are very difficult and all things considered, it came out great! I love your attention to detail and all the work you put into this! I’d love to see one of the latex gloves up close to see all your texture in person
What an amazing item!!! I don't think Victor Dorobantu would be able to tell the difference between him and your THING!! Awesome work you 2!! God bless
We love that the videos are going beyond the holidays. This was a great build
Wow! The intricacies of making a latex model were so interesting.
Love how patient you both are and enthusiastic!! Carry on.
OMGGGGG I WAS EDITING MYSELF TO MAKE THING AND I WAS SHOPPING FOR A POSEABLE HAND TO MAKE THING OMG YOU ARE MIND READERS🎃🎃🎃
nice!!!
I did not expect it to be crawling, lol. But what was I thinking, it's you guys! This was so cool, as always. 👍
Gods, this was amazing. The pure detail and commitment made me almost jealous, like seeing your kid hug another family member more than you! Just the mould work itself, don't even get me started on the paint job and the sutures. Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you 😄😄😄 Glad you liked it
While watching Wednesday I also was thinking about how the Spirit Halloween Monster Hand would look perfect for Thing. You guys did an amazing job with the paint, sculpt and the mold making process! and now I have a tutorial to do it myself 😂😂😂. However I doubt I could make the actual mold my self. I would love one of the extra gloves to make Thing! Anyway stay wicked guys and once again awesome job 🤟
Your sculpting talents are insane! Actually, all your talents are! Fantastic job!!
Had to watch your video twice because I was distracted by the cat’s antics. 🐈⬛
Here's a tip. Do a hand dip in hot wax then ice water, pull hand out, fill with liquid latex, use heat gun to melt wax and poof! Perfect hand casting. It won't fit your automated hand like a glove, but you can make a pretty creepy prop with it.
omgggg i love wednesday series thank you for this awesome video, i rlly enjoyed the wednesday animatronic transformation too❣❣❣
we do too!!! it's so good
@@WickedMakers ☺❣
Dang I would have never thought about turning one of those things into thing! Ha, ha, such a wonderful idea. Hope I get chosen for the thing glove giveaway, cause it'd be fun to try this out too!
Yeah it was so fun!!
I cannot not get enough of your videos. Your love for what you do really shines through. I’m always blown away. As a super fan I would be honored to have one of those Thing hands!!!! Would be a great addition to my Wednesday collection. Thanks for all the hard work you do!!!!
Love this make over! Mold making can be the most tedious but reward thing you do in being an artist. I totally feel the anxiety when you have done all of that work just to dump some plaster on it and then destroy it, hoping the final project turns out well. I would love a Thing glove/blank! You guys did such a fantastic job and the sculpt you did is heads and tails above what Spirit did
Like they say, you learn something every day. And you guys can improve your animations this way as well in the future love it.
Just amazing work J & J! I’m always impressed with your practical solutions to difficult problems… but I get blown away by the artistry you always incorporate into every project. I think “wicked” perfectly describes your humour and joy in the creative process. Another triumph 👏🏻xxx
love that you shared the fact that the dwell time affected the motor operation but not the details
Which details? 😄
I totally would have broken under that pressure with the mistakes, you two really made it work and make such a great team! You guys are not only relationship goals but fantastic artists 👏 this process was enchanting to watch and I just love how it turned out!
I loved the green screen effect for your ad!!! 🤣
This is creeptastic!!! ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I'm so blown away. You 2 have the best imagination. I love to see you guys transform props to a whole other level. Now ya'll got me going to stores or looking online for ideas lol. Always look forward to your next video. Can't wait to see what's next.
I’m so happy to finally see wuts inside of the crawling monster hand. And that looks *AMAZING!!*
Your cat is so adorable and cute
This is so awesome!! Amazing details on the hand (aka) Thing... Love it🖤
Our cat perked up when he saw Obi
This was such a great build. I love watching how you guys make these props look sooooo much better. I would love a hand to have my hubby and i to build one .Thank you
Awesome! The Hands are so cool! 🎉
Omgggg yessss thing!!! Tysm for a new video y’all never fail to impress like I truly enjoy these videos so much! Tell me why I thought y’all built the hand XD and operated it to move
What an amazing job you did on this. So many steps to do but in the end it urns out great. The painting of the hand turned out so amazing.
Thank you for showing all your works. Been a fan for a while I'm glad to see each time that you find something and make it better than it was before. I think I might start trying make buy decorations better. Thank you very much
To make the nails look a little more realistic, you could paint on a layer of UV resin on the nails. Maybe scuff them to look more like nails and add a clear coat nail polish
Love you guys! I would love one of the extras if you still have available.
It really adds to your videos when you guys are learning and experimenting. I feel like we get more detail of the thought process of reimagining a prop which sparks my own creative thinking!
That looks amazing! I bought that little guy a couple years ago and was thinking of painting it to make it look more realistic but never got around to it. Y'all have definitely inspired me to finally do it. Awesome work!
OMG this looks SICK!!! I am so heavy handed, I would have broken the glove or the animatronic while putting them together 🤣 fantastic job as always! Yall really hit the nail on the head with this one! I would love to use one of those gloves for my projects 😊
anyone else honestly interested in this but ending up paying more attention to the cat?? LMAO
Amazing, great walk through and explanation of project along with pitfalls. Looking forward to more great content.
You two are amazing! Jamie's sculpting and painting skills are awesome and the Wednesday skit was GREAT! I laughed so much 😂
Anyone realise the pun “the 3D print is coming in super hand-y” get it it’s a hand was that on porpoise? 😊❤
I love "the mistakes".
This is amazing. My son and I watch you guys all the time. He was so excited you did this one, Thing was his favorite character from Wednesday.
Y’all are so extremely talented! I tried making a plaster “Thing” for my cousin last week and it didn’t turn out well. She was going to dress up like Wednesday for a little Comic-Con our library hosted. Let’s just say she got disappointed…
She decided to dress up as Eleven after the conundrum. I’m sure she would be overly ecstatic if I won her a Thing glove in replacement for the dilapidated one! 😂
God Bless! And thanks for the opportunity! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love the work, keep it up!
Thank you!!
WoOooOoOoO
7 seconds lol, nice!
This was such a cool process. Im a haunted in the Dallas area and love these vides. Im usually better on the electronics and set detailing, but learning this process for sculpting/casing was cool! Would love a hand!
The final result is amazing, and that undercoat really brought the skin to life.
Wow this looks HANDY, AMIRITE? - disclaimer: I am a dad.
Hahha 😄 yeah we tried our hand at it. Went pretty well
Oh My Gosh! This is fantastic! The movement of the latex looks like actual flesh. It's so good.
PS: The baby's face when you first tested it was golden. It was _"Oh am I scared... no that looks fun!"_
🤭
This is so cool! Love watching these transformations. Glad you kept trying! Came out gorgeous. Well done! Would love a hand!! Always. Thank you for sharing!
Love the content guys. Glad you were able to find a way o do this full time. Keep up the work. Also, I would love to get one of the molds for my display shelf.. Thanks again for the content!
wow i love seeing you guys make these amazing things! i started watching around 2020 holloween for yard ideas and fell in love (Congrats)
Woahhh! That turned out so good! You guys did an amazing job and the sculpting and painting is just perfect! Your guys video’s always make me want to go in the garage and just try to make stuff. I think I will since I have a lot of time on my hands. Thanks for another awesome video!
Thing turned out so amazing! I love him! The sculpt job is great! I love sculpting but making molds intimidates me so much! My husband knows his way around electronics, and we've been talking about making our own animatronics, so the extra Thing glove would give us the perfect excuse to try it out!
Fun fact! Thing is in a stage of decomposition called livor mortis, which is encapsulated in the final part of the fresh stage just after rigor mortis lets up. In this part of the decaying process, the blood begins to pool to the lowest point on the body! Since Thing walks on the tips of his fingers and tends to rest on his knuckles, that's what's up with the red discoloration in those places.
That’s super interesting! 😄
@@WickedMakers Thanks! My morbid curiosity leads me to approximate knowledge of many questionable facts.
Umm I want a hand! This is probably my favorite transformation you guys have done yet!
I love this. I had no idea how molding like that worked. Thanks for learning and sharing. And I'd love a chance at the extra glove for my workshop to inspire my creativity.
It’s so cool to see how someone outside of a studio shop would make a mold. Thanks for sharing!
I am soooo happy to see this come together! ❤️ great job you two! I would love one of those extra gloves 🙏 😊
Wow... just WOW. I am constantly impressed with your creativity and with the support you give each other for these projects. Sign me up - I'm ready to take a class from you all! I've never sculpted and my painting is shite - but you guys make it look so easy. And including issues with your build and how to fix them - brrrrilliant! I cannot wait for your next video. XX
Definitely one of my favorite props from you guys! ❤ Y’all are an absolute treat to watch. Keep the year-round spookiness coming!
That cat that jumps around is super cute
Every time y’all post I get so excited! You guys are willing to show the mistakes to help others learn! Fav channel by far❤
Very cool! I made my girlfriend a spoopy music box, and she showed me this channel. You both are so creative together. Count me in for the Thing-glove (thinglove?) giveaway, if there's still one left!
U guys are great and I definitely enjoyed the learning aspect, even without guests you guys are so knowledgeable I always leave inspired and with a new technique or something along those lines I really enjoy your videos! Take care you two🙏🏽
You're so creative! I love this makeover!
Love that Thing and would love him to have a home at my house! Thank you so much for the tutorial.. may try to do this ourselves one day.
Great video, I love how it turned out and that you show the mistakes and we can all learn. You are so talented, I have been a subscriber to your channel for a very long time and I have never been disapointed it your props.
9:05 I love that the hand sculpt aligns with her hand, it’s so perfect
I hope we’re not too late for the giveaway! My daughter loves “Thing” and you have inspired her grab her play-doh and start sculpting 😊.
Oh my gosh I would absolutely love one of the gloves!!! I have one of these hands too! You guys are amazing! We are crazy Halloween lovers over here and we love watching your videos for decoration ideas!
This build is super cool! I absolutely adore the detail you put into the sculpt! I’d love to have one of those extra gloves so perhaps turn into a statue/prop!
This Build Is Awesome.
I love this so much! I love watching your transformations
Great job!! You guys amaze me every time! Would love one of the hands that didn’t quite make it.
Wow! This is amazing! Here’s an idea, maybe a bleeding heart or a creepy cupid doll?
You guys are so talented!! I love how you share your learnings and the process!!! Would love one of the extra hands to paint myself! 🤘🏻🖤
You two keep stepping up your game. So happy for you guys. Keep up the good work! You are killing it!
I am so happy you guys have been able to post after the holidays and that you guys seem to be enjoying yourselves. The work you do is amazing and it brings me an immense amount of joy to pop on one of your videos after a long hard day.
Excellent rework of this prop. It looks amazing.
