Replacing the hood liner under the bonnet is not hard at all nor it would be time consuming, this video is more like a time lapse in an effort not to bore the viewers. R129 SL500 Mercedes...
Hello my friends, whatever brand of adhesive you would like to use, just make sure the heat rating is compatible, so basically I had to re paste the insulation using a 120 degree heat resistant adhesive from Car Builders which is an Australian brand. So far so good...
Hey mate, thanks for the video. I got myself a R129 and need to do this too. Where did you purchase your foam liner from? Mercedes dealer said it's $780 which is crazy. Also which 3M adhesive do you recommend? Thanks again for all your videos!
Hi mate, I bought the liner from Aliexpress, for about 30 AUD, the quality seems to be good. Also the adhesive spray should be heat resistant... I bought this: "Car Builders Premium Upholstery Spray Adhesive Glue Australian Automotive Rated " yet no problem.
@@BenzAddiction it looked like you took an extra shot of adhesive after you set the first clips. if this reflects the best practice, it would seem that an acute angle is better for applying that - rather than 90 degrees.
@@BenzAddiction chuckling on that -- you were careful and methodical - but it looked like possibly the neighbor cat on viewers right caught a puff or two of adhesive... glad that did not happen.
@@BenzAddiction It took me more than one day to clean my R129 hood. First, I used a high pressure water cleaner, removing about 80 of the insulation crap. Time 2-3h. Second, I used a glue remover to get rid of the glue. Time 4h. Now, Im pondering about how to get the glue onto the mat, and then the latter onto the hood. There is only one chance to get it right. My best advice is to NOT be using anything that will scratch the paint.
@@BenzAddiction I own my R129 since 1992 and Im thinking in decades, not just a couple of years. The last time I had a shop to do it, the crap lastet not even 10 years. Now Ill do it myself.

Gut gemacht !!
Danke
Thank you for the video - my R129 needs doing
Hi my friend, it's a relatively easy and cheap project, but satisfying when done, make sure you use a better brand adhesive, good luck ;)
Good work
Thank you...

@@BenzAddiction thanks mate! I'm learning a lot from watching your videos. Merry Xmas!
Not sure if you bought one yet, I'm in the US and bought my replacement from Pelican Parts for ~190.00 USD.
A lot easier to do if you flip the bonnet fully upright into the service position.......
Yes, I had a clearance issue in the garage :)

nice job. I wonder if this glue can withstand the temperature. (so rare) I had to correct it because after a long route it started to peel off
Thanks mate, well, very good question. I couldn't find anything on the spray about temperature...only time can prove this, ha ha...
@@BenzAddiction czcams.com/video/HIDGJCI1c-4/video.html i change glue
@@BenzAddiction permatex released after 2 weeks. Forch keeps to this day
@@adek330Ci I will let you know when it peel s off... definitely 3M could be a better option.
How did the overspray go on the windscreen?
Did not cause any issue :)

neighbor CAR... neighbor cat is completely different issue.
Better off removing the hood to do the job
👍
You should have moved your bike.
You are right my friend.
@@BenzAddiction Really enjoy your videos.
Yes, I was cringing with the overspray on the bike and car next to it....
Like with most respective videos this is just another vid how NOT to do it. Doing the job in your garage to begin with.
I will improve next time my friend ;)

@mfkliegenschaften5420 my insulation is very well stuck after more than year, just had to use high heat adhesive, that's all.
