This takes me back to my childhood in the 1970s and 1980s when old school vegetarians used mushrooms and walnuts in place of meat. I love it!
I was definitely one of those kids! It's still a staple for me
@@EdgyVeg And it's delicious, and so much healthier than all the tasty, but highly processed faux meats! ❤
@@EdgyVeg
If that is true, then how come you originally did a different recipe for a meat substitute?
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 because she can and no one is coming on CZcams with her type of clout and channel looking for walnut beef…
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 Because she has a vegan channel to run with an insatiable appetite for new recipes.
i made this recipe today, and was totally blown away, it tasted like real ground beef. One trick i did for it to have more beefy taste was to add decent amount of fat(olive oil), until i could see little glistening on mushroom-walnut mix, because beef has fat in it too. So to mimic that i added olive oil, and followed rest of the steps, it was a total hit. Wish i could add the picture of my fake beef. Thank you for this video
Marmite added to this gives a very meaty/umami taste. You can order it online if you can't find it in local stores. I like it in chili, stews, soups, Shepherd's pie. Anything that needs a Beefy taste.
Dried mushrooms work even better! Something about the drying and rehydration process makes them so umami packed and gives them a meaty texture. I'm an omnivore and if someone presented me with a beef mince or a dried and rehydrated mushroom mix, I'd pick the mushrooms. The texture is sublime.
perfect!
Big giant jar of dried mushrooms at Costco 🍄🍄
@@meman6964Did you try it?
I have some but I took them out of the original container so I don’t know how to rehydrate - or rather how long it takes?
@@jacksparrow2351 make sure you're eating real beef! most beef in the store has glue in it. Research it!!! so I think I'll stick with the mushrooms lol
so...do you rehydrate before or after chopping? I have dehydrated soooo many mushrooms this year when on sale. Thanks for answering.
I do this with eggplant and walnuts and it works beautifully! Mushrooms and eggplants are in my top 5 foods! Yummy
@ 1antievenom, can you share your recipe ?
@@paquefeal2385 it is not really a recipe. I just used my food processor and did a quick chopping of the eggplant and then threw in some walnuts. I never measured, just go with your gut depending on how ya feel. Then I would throw in whatever seasonings that compliment the meal that you are making. I often use it as a lasagna meat so I would throw in the Italian seasoning, some basil, garlic and onion, thyme, whatever. I have also Don burritos with it and I use a steak seasoning blend or taco spice blend depending on the mood of the day. It just works really well.
sounds great!
@@1auntievenom, thanks for sharing ! I love eggplant and I believe it’ll taste great. I’ll definitely give it a try 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
It really sucks that making these ground beef substitute dishes are so much more expensive than eating dead cow. It is really messed up when you think about it… How things that are much better for you nutritiously are harder to afford.
We tried this tonight for tacos. It was amazing! This is my new vegan “ground beef” go to!
Amazing!
how 'mushroomy' did it taste? I'm very curious to try but I'm not a fan of overwhelming mushroom taste
@@emilyratch did you ever try it lol
Love this! My stomach doesn’t like all those processed alternatives so this is going to be great!
Hope you like it!
I make this a lot. I add lentils to it as well sometimes. It's so good! Everyone should make this (except people with nut allergies, of course).
Hello 👋 how are you doing today?
yum!
That's what I do!! Mushrooms and lentils :) so good!
Which lentils do you add?
You increase my happiness. I have been binge watching your videos every night. Gratitude to you sister. I watched the original walnut video twice in preparation for family dishes and the fact that this one is super updated - soul excited!!! Thank you from those of us who do not like the processed stuffs from the store.
thank you so much!
I'm glad you mentioned the stems. I've always found stems provide a chewy texture that satisfies my meat craving.
Meat satisfies my meat cravings
Why would you crave something if you weren't evolved to eat it ?
I made this!!!! sooo good! thank you so much!!
This was sooooo delicious 😋 Goodbye beyond meat! Hello mushrooms, walnuts, and spices!! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!
Just made this. It's so amazing!!! Chef's kiss!
9 year vegan here and never heard of this! Wonderful video. Looks great can't wait to try
Hope you like it!
Thank you!!! I enjoy your delivery as well:) keep being you!!!
yess! I love Rainbow Plant Life's taco beef that uses mushrooms, walnuts, and green lentils.
Literally one of the most intriguing videos I've ever seen.
I chop walnuts up and mix them with onion, garlic, coconut oil(or butter) and thai basil. Put them into the caps of portabella with (because I eat dairy) cream cheese and smoked gouda. Bake them until most of the moisture is gone.
Just the best flavor!
Love your videos! Can’t wait to try this!
I make one with walnuts, mushrooms, AND cauliflower. Husband and kids love it too
Hello 👋 how are you doing today?
Sounds great!
That sounds delicious!
I’m not a mushroom fan, but walnut/cauliflower taco meat is my JAM.
yum!
Thanks! I tried a variation of the recipe and yes it really works, thank you. It will take me a few goes to get the kind of consistency I would prefer and to get the ratios of the ingredients and spices etc., right, but this is a great addition to my personal cook book.
That was such an adorable video. You were totally comfortable in your skin and it shows. You exude confidence, even non-chalance. I've done walnuts, mushrooms, and I added green olives just for a bit of zing. That was very similar to what I imagine you made. Good stuff!
thank you!
What a wonderful comment! My thoughts exactly. I liked and subscribed before a third of the way in 🙂💕🙏✌️✊🌿
I just made this. It was super easy and yummy. Thanks.
Looks really, really good!! Sometimes simplicity is Best!!!
SOOOOO good. Thanks for sharing!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I recently started using more walnuts in my daily meals. It’s really easy and tasty to toss them in just about everything.
I added a little liquid smoke. Kicked it over the top! I need to stop eating red meat like now!!! This is it. The taste, texture....Everything! My goal is zero meat. This makes for a really good starting point. Thank you!!!!
Look forward to trying this!
I make a very similar recipe! I sometimes add tofu if I have it spare and I use a little marmite in the flavouring. It's wonderful. Thanks for sharing!!
think i just found my fav person to watch on youtube for recipes...looks bomb and can't wait to make this!
Awe, thanks!
thank you so much for this substitute. I need more walnuts in my life.
Anytime!
Oooo Tabitha Brown did this too and it looked sooo good! This looks great too! I usually use cauliflower and mushrooms to do something similar and it's so good ☺️❤️ However you do have to use a paper towel or something to squeeze out excess water so it's not too watery, but it's definitely worth it. Can't wait to give this a try as well☺️❤️
Tabitha Brown uses too many processed vegan products, and she is not a good cook.
@@sandraatkins2539 Tabitha Brown is my favorite vegan cook. She is a goddess of vegan cooking.
I just made burritos with this tonight, OMG!!!! WOW! So good. Thanks for this recipe.
I just made this and it is fabulous!
Thanks. I will definitely try this out.
I also remember making this recipe back in the '60's and '70's with one difference, and that was to save some of the mushroom caps and stuff them with the mixture, then bake. The caps release their moisture and make a sort of gravy that adds to the flavor. You can also use large portobello caps; two make a nice main dish.
Sounds great!
So perfect as I cut beef out of my diet. Was looking all over the internet for something I could do and voila!! Here it is. Thanks for posting!!
Glad I could help!
I am not a vegan but I was searching for recipes which all if my family - beef eaters and vegatarians - would like to eat and what's tasty for them. It is great. Thanks a bunch! Warmhearted regards from Vienna/Austria! :)
Awe, thank you and I hope you enjoy! ❤️
Nice video, thank you and I love the caffeinated start (blooper) that was left in the introduction.
Thanks!
Absolutely delicious and easier than other recipes ty ty
So simple! I shall make this tomorrow for my lunch. Thank you Candice 😁
I hope you enjoy!
You are a creative genius!
Your skin is amazing 🥰 I am going to try this, it has all my favorites inside.
Yay! Thank you!
Hello Beautiful, this is Xavienne, I'm interested in trying this recipe with the idea of mixing potatoes with it. My Mexican mother-in-law made the most delicious hamburger tacos by frying a shredded potato into it. I hope to try this with this vegan meat recipe. I feel this could be a winner. Thanks for sharing!!
I also use lentils with walnuts for a ground meat meal.
Yes, love that combo!
Mushrooms and walnuts are a fantastic ground beef substituent. Great video Candice and love 🥰 it. Love 💕 Candice.
thanks!
Your naturally funny self really shined through in this video, love it!!!
Thank you so much!!
Thanks girl, what an easy and lovely recipe. Can’t wait to try it 😍
Hope you like it!
What a fun video ⭐️
What about toasting the walnuts first, letting them cool, then soak?
You can also do 1/3 lentils! for more bulk
Can't wait to try this. I have used walnut/mushroom in a pate'
It is such a versatile mix 🌮🌯🥙💚
Im obsessed with how easy that was. For days I've had no idea what to do with my mushrooms & walnuts
That’s a great recipe 😊 I was looking for something vegan, meaty without the use of soya protein and this is ideal..I think I will use it as stuffing for cabbage rolls over a bed of tomatoey roasted sweet potatoes and red peppers - thank you 👍
I do burgers made of mushrooms and quick cook oatmeal, too. Yum!
Looks greats!
I will be making this!Would love to see you make vegan ice cream. Thanks for the content. Love it!
I have a few! Check my website! www.theedgyveg.com/?s=ice+cream

I do something just like this with tempeh and walnuts and OMG so good. Need to give it a try wish mushrooms or maybe a combo of the three 😍
amazing!
I'm new to your channel. I love the video its quite not loud you get to the point . you are not loud thats a plus
I’ve been using quinoa in my sauces etc in place of ground beef … I cook a bunch ahead and freeze in small zip lock bags and use as needed… hubby never notices
I enjoyed the content and vibe of your channel! I'm a new subscriber.
That looked good and quick
I'm going to try this!! Thx! ♥
You're welcome! Good luck!
I have had a nut "meat" before, in tacos, and it was fantastic! Even the texture was exactly like beef. I'm sure the mushrooms would be great as well, and mushrooms are great for you anyway.
The walnut harvest is over and I have many, so I tried this recipe. Its good and in a taco it will work. Next time I will spice up the mushrooms with pepper and onions. I understand why the soaking of the walnuts is important.
Same, I add peppers and onion too
Not sure why my meat-eating butt got recced this, but this looks fantastic! I don't care if it tastes like beef--the combo of walnuts and mushrooms sounds delicious! The local Middle Eastern grocery has walnuts at $5/lb, so it's almost the same price as ground beef, anyway. Will try soon!
I've made this for years using green lentils & walnuts 🖤
yum!
Omg Subscribed. I love you for sharing this recipe. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you!!
This was really delicious. I used it to make spaghetti. The walnuts still had a little bite to them. Maybe I'll try cooking them longer. But still, it was so good. Thank you!
You're welcome, thanks for trying it!
I never thought anything like this. thank you, I will try this
You’re welcome 😊
Yup, going to put this in shepherd's pie. Amazing.
I’m trying this tomorrow 😃
one of my favourite recipes
Love it!
Ottolenghi has a fantastic recipe for veg lasagna using finely chopped mushrooms roasted in the oven. He does use cheese and cream in his recipe but those can easily be replaced. I’ve made this loads of times and it’s always a hit!
Sounds great!
I’m not vegan and these look delicious. Definitely will try this recipe.
Will definitely try this...I love Tacos...Never made Vegan Tacos before...Thanks.

Peace and Love
Looks delish!!
Thanks!
Awesome going to the shops now to buy more walnuts
Enjoy!
You are absolutely amazing 🎉🎉
yummmm will defs be making!
Hope you enjoy
I do this and make wonderful burgers. I do chop onions finely and sautee them. I also sautee the mushrooms until they shrink, reinforcing their flavor. We have a lot of pecans from surrounding trees, so sometimes I add those as well. I add a tiny bit of soy sauce for binding and a couple tablespoons of almond flour and bake it in the oven for about twenty minutes at 350°. My husband loves silan (date syrup), so I squirt a little on top before serving. So much better than meat burgers and better than store bought vegan burgers. Don't forget your salt and pepper.
This is AWESOME!!! Thanks for the tip! I'm off to the woods to forage for some shroomies! 🍄
enjoy!
Looking forward to mixing n greater so eating ! Ase 👁️🪬👁️💯💚
