Thank you so much for sharing the formula and examples with different sizes.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. Your ratio ranges definitely provide me good, new perspective!

Concur, simple and informative explanation! Thx.

I just bought 2 of this 48 inch 807 Philips tv right before the store was empty. 1 for upstairs play area, and 1 for my main living room. They are such a good deal, specially when tv prices are gonna shoot up because of the world economy.. new 808 model is around 50% more expensive in each inch segment here, without anything special new to offer, so buying these xx7 models before they sell out was a good deal. Was considering 65 inch for my main living room, but after several years with 55 inch tvs, and recently experiencing smaller tvs again and understanding more what I want from a tv for myself and my family, 48 inch is plenty. Didn’t know how much a good field of vision, and picture experience with content from 4k to 720/1080p meant to me before being on a cabin with a 32 inch tv… so much more relaxing to watch movies on, and awesome picture experience on lower resolution/less quality material. The “bigger is better” chase had really made me blind for quality viewing after I went up to 55 inch. So if anyone cares.. I recommend you to follow rtings and other optimal viewing distance data sheet. 😊
I like this perspective. In some cases it might make more sense to go a size smaller and a step higher in quality rather than drop quality just for size to try and stay at the same price point.
I still use my 46" 1080P Samsung 8500 series from '09 and I sit almost exactly 10' away. It's been just fine. I'm not distracted by the speakers next to it or anything else in the room. I'm looking to upgrade to a 65" because after 14 years it's time. But I would think 75" for a 10 foot distance would be just way too much screen. I've sat 8-10 from a 65" and everything on the screen looked massive. 75" would be too much. I have to believe this all personal preference. Especially since I've had no issues with a 46" for 14 years. Plus budget is a huge factor. I don't think the extra inches is worth the expense.
When you have kept a tv for that long it can be hard finding the right replacement. Email me at jhendley@walts.com , I would love you help you out through your shopping journey!
Thank you for your knowledge sharing.
My pleasure!
I’m sitting about 8 feet from my 83 inch OLED …and it’s effing awesome
your effing awesome!!! ( for watching the video and leaving a comment!) :)
Do you find you need to turn your head (left and right) to watch the whole movie or it’s comfortable all the time? I’m considering 83” OLED as well and will be about 8ft away too
@@charleebrown1448 no, not at all
Great explanation. Thanks
No problem!
This was really useful, still finding it hard to decide though, 65" looks so big, takes over the room. Bought a 65 and its sat in the box as I might return with 14days grace period. main couch is about 107" from tv. which based on this video is about right. conscious, I'll send back and regret. currently have 50, and 55 is marginally bigger, but decent. 60" would keep everyone happy including the wife! 😂
yep its always tough!
I am currently doing a 4k 43 inch at 6 ft and thats perfect for me. This also means that I don't have to move my head to see what's happening on the other side of the screen.
yeah and the 43 inch is super dense and sharp which I like.
@@WaltsTV I increased the sharpness to 17% just so you know, that was just right for me.
0:58 Does "where you should be sitting" mean where your eyes are? I'm asking because I feel like some recommendations may use distance to couch, to the front of the couch. And the difference can be like half a meter, what ever that is in feet, like 1,5 ft. I'm assuming its from roughly the eyes but just asking for clarification.
yeah its roughly eyes not couch because every couch could be setup different.
@@WaltsTV Thanks for your reply
I have a 75" 4K TV in the living room and sit 8 1/2 feet away from it, which is closer to the THX recommendations rather than SMPTE. I find it quite comfortable but it does come down to personal preference. I like my games and movies and I like a degree of immersion. In my spare room, I have my old 55" 1080p 3D TV which is six feet away from the seating area and I can sometimes see the individual pixels on the screen.
Nice! Thanks for sharing your experience!
As long as u like sitting that close, who cares what a chart says....
@@michael-4k4000 Yup, exactly.
My room is 16 × 20... can you recommend 43 or 50 inch iam not a fan big tv ?
I feel 43 may be small give some advice
well room size isn't as important as distance. So when your on the couch how far is where you head would be to the wall?
Hello what would you recomend seating from 77" 4k uhd tv hdr immersive experience the closest you would sit
no closer than lets say 7 ft
@@WaltsTV thank you for the reply
Hello, I'm looking for an 85-inch TV, and I'll be sitting 5 meters/16 feet away from it. Will this be enough distance for optimal viewing pleasure?
More than enough space, if it's 4k or better.
Yes, Its actually the perfect distance for a space like this.
@@WaltsTV it is 15 feet still good?
I bourcht a 77 inch tv and iam worried that its to big .my living room is just 3 m is this enought?
Are 7.5 feet distance enough for a 65 inch 4k tv?
thats perfect!
I’m 7’ away from my 75” TV and it’s perfect for me
Yeah I wouldn't want to be any closer seems like a perfect distance.
7 what ? Meters ?
@@Dorian_Kaioh I think he means 7 feet
@@Dorian_Kaioh Feet, Apologies!
Are 10 feet distance enough for a 65 inch tv ?
yes!
I sit 12.5 feet away from a 77inch. If your livingroom is patrially blacked out then you can sit futher back bc of how the tv pops more. My back tv wall is blacked out.
yeah I mean a 77 inch is a large tv fit for most large rooms, I would only be worried if you were sitting 17-20 feet away.
@@WaltsTV For a 12 feet viewing distance, should I get a 65 or 77 inch LG C3 OLED TV?
@@rootcao1360 if you can afford the extra size of a nicer tv i would go with the 77, gonna have more of that big screen feel!
It's funny I have a 32 inch TV I used to watch it from 7.5 feet, I feel comfortable.
yeah it will be easy on your eyes but your most likley losing sharpness, and more importantly you dont feel as immersed.
In my living i have 24 inch 3 ft away it is good but in my room i have 12 inch 7 ft away too small😢
yes
from my own perspects and experiement if your tv size os 55' you should be 5.5 feet away and 65' by 6.5 feet
I would say thats fair!
What's curious. These videos Are quite entertaining. difference of opinions or ideas .. So much talking for little info. And everyone says bigger/on the bigger side..is better except for one video
We try not to get into the nitty and gritty and provide an overall honest opinion of the product and how it may or may not suit the customer!
Would sitting 9.5-10 feet away from an 85-inch be safe?
And also feel comfortable
yes, depends on the pannel though. What tv were you looking at?
@@WaltsTV looking at the Samsung 85” QN800 neoQled 8k. Best Buy has it on sale for $2500 right now
Yeah thats good then.
@@WaltsTVWhat tv did he say? I’m about to buy a TCL Q6 85” today and was wondering if 9.5 feet was good watching space for it?
55 inchi vs 80% more money for 65 of same tv? Miniled tv
55 is ussally too small, 65 is that sweet spot for most people.
I am going from 55 inch to 75inch! about 9feet away! But can always move the couch back a little further if needed.
I would move the couch back only a foot. 75" is a very good middle ground size.
A new study shows that you are wrong. It's 1, not 1.2 Todays TV content are designed for you to sit closer. The 1.2 only makes sense for gaming.

The problem with 77" plus sized TVs is how to dispose of them when the time comes.
they can fit in a dumpster, and people get even larger ones like 85 and 98"
3 mins in and we haven’t established our objective
